Can you really grow Don Juan down here in SWF? I had a beauty in Jersey but never thought I could grow one down here! Any suggestions? Hard to believe those dark red blooms can tolerate the Florida sun!
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 11 месяцев назад
Hi! I would suggest you limit sun for your Don Juan to about 6-7 hours, South florida sun can be brutal and will hinder the growth of rose if left in the full sun all day. 😀🪴

One of my neighbors has a beautiful hedge made of Calliandra (red powderpuff). The hummingbirds and butterflies love it!

Great video. Do you have any tips for local Florida plants to use as privacy fence?
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 2 года назад
Hi there and yes! I actually I did a video on just that with my sister. On plants-, Song of india makes a great privacy screen( thats the one we used in video) , as well as cocoplum, clusia Guitfera, podocarpus, hibiscus... Here is our video link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Hk_huG2IN4.html 😀 🪴

@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN I would like to offer a dissenting opinion than our esteemed host
@davebennett4087
@davebennett4087 2 года назад
In my experience, although Clusia does offer nearly instant gratification, be prepared for more maintenance than many people are ready for as they grow very fast. (I have been told that they are banned in Hawaii) Clusia is a dominant hedge material in my neighborhood and many neighbors are getting warnings from the POA as their hedges are rising to 20 feet and our guidelines allow no more than 8 feet.
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 2 года назад
Yes. Clusia is a beast, It also gets super wide. I think Podocarpus is a great slow growing alternative. Or the nana cluisa which has real small leaves and doesnt get big... much more manageable. 😀 🪴

Just saw your interesting video and saw this beautiful Plumeria tree. I am leaving in Daytona and was wondering if i could plant one in this region. I visited some nurseries and i didn't see Frangipani tree anywhere. Thank You.

Hi! You are right on the edge of possibilities. Growing a Plumeria in 9b (Daytona) can work if she is protected from cold and cold winds. Some folks in your area also grow them in large deco pots and then move tree into garage during a hard freeze event. Cold is the enemy of this tree. I hope this was helpful.😀 🪴

Hello! We live in South Jacksonville & we have over 20 plumeria growing in pots. We move them into the greenhouse when the temps get in the 60’s & bring them out when the temps stay above 60F at night. It IS possible to keep tropical plants as long as you protect them from the cold, Good Luck!

Great video! Which of these, or any other fragrant plant, do well in a pot on a covered south facing, multistory condo patio? It get bright indirect sun all summer and some direct sun in winter (since the sun is lower).
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 2 года назад
Hi! Citrus is tough (Myser's lemon), and should handle condo winds better than most others. Confederate Jasmine may also do ok. Hope this helps😀 🪴

@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN I have two African milk plants that have done extraordinarily well on my porch. So well that I have had to add 20lbs of river rock into the self-watering pots I purchased for them to stabilize in the winds. But isn't Confederate Jasmine a trellis plant? I need a potted plant that does not grow too tall. Year round scent is what i need. Love gardenia but do not think they will work well.
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN 2 года назад
@@Redreefmedia Yes, Confederate jasmine is a vining plant. So you could add a trellis into your deco container and allow her to grow up. it I do that trellis/pot combo with a Hoya vine on my balcony it it looks great. 😀🪴

I had a night jasmine hedge that I had to pull out because the caterpillars were eating all the leaves and it looked terrible
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Год назад
I am sorry. My Night blooming at my Miami Shores home was eaten up too. But it would bounce back. I usually plant it behind other more showy plants, so if it gets chewed up it doesn't take away from the appearance. Have you tried using sticky traps at base of plant to catch caterpillars? 😀 🪴
@andreaorphanos9641
@andreaorphanos9641 Год назад
@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN I pulled them out! Now am starting anew. Am thinking of using the Song of India and Jatropha. This is in a space 3 feet wide between a stucco wall and my screen enclosure. I want something with color, a tropical feel, and not boring like a Podocarpus hedge, and above all no diseases. Do you think it would work?
