I am not a Doric Speaker (but I speak with Scots words on a daily) and I heard this: "If he gets a little bit closer I can throw a Caber at him, you know" "Just, not fair making us fight for the hand of the queen that does not want no part of it, you know" I am 100 percent sure this is right, I can hear the words clear as a sunny day. I speak all these words in my every day lingo except ken, I don't say ken.
Just about right, except the word in the second quote is quine, which is another word for "girl" or "young lady". So it'd be "It's just not fair making us fight for the hand of a girl who doesn't want any part of it, you know?"
Translation: "If ay was a wee bit closer a coulda lobbed a caber it um, ken" = "If he was a little bit closer I could of thrown a caber at him, you know", (a caber is a wooden beam/pole that's held upright,) "It's just nay fair makin us feght fir the hand ay a queen who doesnae want nay part ay it" = "It's just unfair making us fight for the hand of a queen who doesn't want any part of it"
My grandfather is Doric, he doesn't quite speak like this but he does have a very heavy accent. I actually managed to understand most of this except for the last bit after "-making us fight for the hand of the queen-"!
1st line: If he was a wee bit closer, I could lob a caber at him. 2nd line: It's just not fair makin' us fight for the hand of the queen that does not want any part of it.
if he wis a wee bitty closer i could lob a caber at him, ken? - if he were standing closer, I could throw a caber (large wooden log) at him, you know? it's just nae fair makking us fet fur the hand of the quine, it disnae whet an appetite, ken? It just isn't fair making us fight for the hand of the woman - it doesn't whet an appetite, you know?
No! He says "....disnae waint (he says wint here though) nae bit ae it" as in "... doesn't want no bit of it". 'It is not fair you are making us fight for the hand of the girl who doesn't want no bit of it, you know' Quine means Girl not woman. Tell me why he would say, appetite??? That is just bizzare! Also, it's fecht not fet And Haund not hand.
