It’s mainly the outdated intro and TV show vibe which I can’t quite define. It may be the colour grading though that seems ok. Oh I’ve seen some glitch transitions, those surely don’t help. And yes, the colour grading is a bit weird, the asphalt and sky have a pink shade a lot of the time.
With the right exhaust and matched to the DSG it does indeed sound great. Unfortunately it is way too thirsty for the performance and expensive to tax (at least in the UK). Slow, heavy and likes a drink. Could be describing myself, to be fair....
@@francishughes3017 you dont buy this car nowadays to be the fastest. You buy it to enjoy the big vr6 and its not slow by any means to be honest. And i drive an f80 m3 as well as a golf 3 vr6
@@mikesiegenthaler4224 I do agree and am definitely all about the theatre and driving experience rather than being a 0-60 bore. The problem is that unlike, say, a Subaru Impreza, virtually all of the experience revolves around the exhaust note. The R32 costs nearly £600 a year to tax though and with blobeye Subaru's costing £200 less, with similar mpg's, and now appreciating values as a future classic, I'd say that was a better bet. I can't however see the R32's going up in value.
I'd also go for bmw 130i. With a little bit tuning of intake and exhaust and new map u can get easily over 300hp. U get also that beautiful sound and it's still a step higher quality vehicle, Golf and Megan are great cars, but u have way more fun with +300hp rwd bmw.
You buy a R32 for the noise and the fact its the last of the golfs with a v6. The inside is also a nice place to be with heated leather, nav etc. 6.0 secs to 60 mph is still fairly decent for something as heavy and fully loaded.
@@antj29 yes true, I had an E36 328is which was a sweet engine, but to be fair to the M140i there is plenty of torque from very low revs, and it's not really got any noticable turbo lag due to it being a twin-scroll turbo.
@Feed The P0ny Bullshit. It is already a modern classic, how many other RWD hatchbacks are there, with a 6 cylinder turbocharged engine ? People are snapping them up now, because everything else in the same segment is FWD and 2.0 4 cylinder. There is nothing else like it.
Although I love the rwd 130i I think I’d go the r32, yes they are not fast by today standards and tuning options are VERY limited but that noise makes up for everything it falls sort on
I had one last year in the Netherlands. It was in real good condition and for that reason i paid 17.000 euros! Hard to find a good one these days. Unfortunately it got stolen in 6 weeks. But for sure one of the best hot hatches ever made, especially the best sounding one.
They are quite easy to come by here in eSwatini and quite reasonably priced at +-100000 Rand's for 60-80k km examples. . . But that's coz our country allows import dealerships, so they come to us improted from Asian markets like Japan, Singapore, etc
Very underrated and not common, lovely car, hard to find a decent one now as they're becoming very desirable and soon to be a enthusiasts car (collectors)
I have a 130i. It is truly addictive to drive. Mine has LSD, headers (ohhhh the noise!!!), A few M3 bits and some weight loss. It's more of a sportscar than hot hatch IMHO. I also have had a R32 DSG, and currently have a Megane RS250. The Megane is unbelievable around corners and has an amazing chassis. The R32 sound even stock was incredible. One of the best sounding cars ever in stock form.
@@JuanBluesMan The Megane 265 cup is an epic car with just what it can do.. punches way above it's weight and in a circuit situation, there's no contest for the money. The 130i LE is just a good old fashioned analog/great engine package that feels special to drive fast or slow. Just put the RS265 for sale.
As far as i know, used cars in uk are much cheaper because they are left hand drive. So their used market is limited to uk, less demand equal less cost
Not sure if their any cheaper over there but look for a 2006-09 A3 3.2 S-line, basically a R32 in Audi guise without the R tax.I got mine in Canada for a 5500 with a bit over 215k km and some cosmetic rust.
@@ThaDutchDK1989 Calling it ugly is subjective. I would argue that the 130i is ugly. I own an MPS and it's one of the best handling cars I've had, they come with an LSD as standard and a lot of new cars don't even have them. MPS' not being "well known" is a good thing, I've had the latest hothatches (S3, golf r, focus st etc) try to pull away from me and the look of surprise on their face is addicting. To be beaten by a 10 year old car that costs 3k when you're in your 20k+ finance wagon is hilarious.
The leaking oil filter housing gasket is one of the few ways you can kill an N52 engine. Although not directly. The leaking oil drips onto the auxiliary belt, the belt slips, shreds and gets sucked in past the cranskhaft seal. Sounds unlikely but it can happen
Spunking a lot of money up the wall for that with next to no sell on value. Besides, you'd be mental to modify a non LSD version to that extent, which puts you back in the £5k/£6k mark. Personally, the R32 Golf is just better in every way. If you want a turbo Civic, wait a few more years and buy an FK2. 310bhp from the factory with the suspension, breaks and looks to go with it.

I owned many cars: BMW has the best rear wheel drive every day drivers. And Suzuki the best small front wheel drive city racers. No shit! Thats why we own 3 BMW straight six models and 2 Suzuki GTI/Rallye models.
@@ringbimmer suzuki gti lolhaha shopping car its not even a hot hatch. 107hp lol a basic golf or clio or astra has the same hp. bmw is overrated had a e46 328iand it was shit and unrelaible luckily i sold it to the next bmw idiot. one lap on a track and the chassis cracks, really quality
my brother has a top spec 130i m sport he bought off the original owner with just 60k on the clock, fantastic car that really packs a punch so understated! But for 5k you could have a lovely k20 type R, a nice megane trophy or r32 is easily upwards of 10k! that's why I've gotta Kia pro_ceed Gt not quite like those but seriously deserves some love for being a decent hot hatch.
R32 just for the noise alone! 0:46 I have one of these ( had for 6 years ) and always fun to drive! no real maintenance hiccups ( I did the timing chain as preventative maintenance )
550 pounds roadtax is what you pay here in the Netherlands for every petrol car weighing between 1150kg and 1250kg. Taxes are crazy over here. Buying a good mk5 r32 will set you back about 15.000 euros over here.
I wish we had the Renault in the US. But honestly, I wouldn't buy any of these cars at that age. They are too old. European cars become too expensive to maintain after 7-8 years of age. They break more often than Japanese cars do. And European parts and labor costs too much here in the US.
I've had my 130i for over a year now and the only things that I've had to do other than oil changes is spark plugs and coils (cheap, easy, did it myself). It's been plenty reliable. I've had more cosmetic shit to fix than mechanical. Sunroof liner got reupholstered, new gearknob, new steering wheel leather. A-pillar fabric also needs reupholstering. Now the clear coat lacquer is peeling on the front bumper.
I simply disagree with this video and all the commenters here. Alfa Romeo 147 GTA. Im glad no one else has mentioned it.... because good taste is hard to come by now 😊
I'd have chosen a Volkswagen Golf Edition 30 over the R32, although there is something awesome about a VR6 packed into a medium sized hatchback. The Edition 30 is just that little bit more special being a 30 years of the GTI edition, it comes factory fitted with color coded GTI body kit (rear bumper, front splitter and side skirts), the gorgeous BBS Pescara's and most importantly a slightly larger K04 turbo which will make it respond very well to a remap. But still a very respectable choice.
5k for an R32? I just sold my MK4 2004 R32 6 speed manual 3 years ago for $18,600USD... granted the MK4 is far more desirable in the US because of the 6 speed. And mine was fairly unmolested and in great shape.
Cheaper pre 07 reg , I had one from 07 only to find 06 reg paid less. if you known the instrument cluster of a r32 you would know that’s what my dp is.
If i choose a 1 series i rather go with the 135i Coupe or the same 1 Series M Coupe. For me, from the 3 i choose the R32, because this is the rarest Golf EVER
