BEST SHOES FOR CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS? SPIKES , FLATS, OR TRAINERS? 

Depends on the race. For me, any course with any large amounts of concrete or asphalt, I personally run in trainers. For a course with little asphalt, flats all the way. Any dirt course or grass course I have to use spikes

Yesterday at my cross country meet I clocked a new pr at 21:23. I plan on breaking 18:00 at the state meet this November.

Love spikes. Run in the Saucany Carrera line and its great. I also live in a climate where everything is green and wet and soft though

Welcome back to XC...crush it man! Are you running solo or for a team? You are never too old for XC...56 yrs old and still truckin'! Jami, I am not ashamed to say I wear Under Armor Brigade XC flats... love them! I tried Saucony Carrera, too constricting and Nike Rival spikes...the tongue always slid to the side and caused discomfort. Tried the UA...total surprise. I go with the flat (spikeless) because a few courses I run have asphalt &/or gravel, along with the grass & dirt heavy courses. Flats work well on any surface except deep mud or snow, then you need the long spikes😉

I typically liked spikes for XC back in the day, but my sister always preferred flats (the Nike Zoom Streak LT series, to be specific)!

ASICS kayano or ASICS nimbus is what my brother and sister go for. My brother has flat feet and the kayanos give his arch that support he needs; my sister on the other hand has high arches- she places more pressure on her last 3 metatarsals and that’s where she needs the most cushioning and the nimbus 19 were perfect. ASICS has then remodeled the nimbus model and they feel a lot firmer. She’s getting new shoes next month and idk if she’s gonna stick with the nimbus but I’m recommending her the gel pulse 11 or cumulus Edit: my sister and brother participate in running year round; when cross country season is over, they’re preparing for track season- its all back to back for them My sister has been running with ASICS for 4 years now and my brother 3 and they don’t trust any other brand. On top of that they don’t ever experience knee pain or injuries of that sort, Maybe strains/ sprains here and there but no joint pain or back pain :)

Back in the day I had flats that had holes for spikes. No plastic like track spikes. It was the best of both worlds for 5-8 k. Wish I still had them for my son. He’s getting my track spikes from 1996 in a year or two.

I mostly run in spikes, just got my Havoc xc2's and they've been good so far, but my last race was on a course with lots of concrete, gravel, and other bad stuff, so I actually ran in my Hokas

my parents just bought me nike Mamba 5s. The are great for 800m- 10ks. I love them for the courses my school does which are usually 2 miles and completely grass or mud.

Hi Jami! I'm running in a city with a lot of rain, usually 3-5 km's where the Pegasus Turbo is perfect for me, however when I try to slow down my pace for longer runs, it just won't let me. Do you have any good recommendations for 7-10 km runs (preferably, but not necessarily with some sort of water resistance?)

The spike and flat from sketchers are a bit too minimalist for me. I'd go with an EVO Jawz from Hoka.

What about blanks for xc spikes I live in Arizona and already bought xc spikes but it turns out we run on concrete in most meets ( I’m a first year xc athlete) so should I put blanks in a risk slipping or take them out and possibly ruin the spikes in the rocks and dirt. I need some help. thx

I've done a couple of XC races. First time in spikes, second time in my Inov8 X-Talon 212's. I don't think I'll ever go back to spikes. Every time I hit an unexpected hard spot, it made me feel a little sick.

I wear spikes almost a always, but if I there is a lot of concrete I wear the same shoe I just take the metal spikes out

my cross country 3k pr is 15:28 but next season i will get it down to sub 12:00

hm. In HS I ran most races 15:30-17:00 in Nike waffle racers or the spike version. Both of which weighed as much as the average trainer these days.

What should I wear if the course has gravel , pavement and a 100 m patch of grass at the start. ( I’m from 🇸🇬)
