Okay, I'm gonna be the guy that says it. "All these vacuums suck!" Seriously, this is good information!!! Thanks for all the hard work and research! Shows every hour, I'll see myself out.

I buy thise little 3 gallon ridgids for tool carts where i want duat collection integrated for a particular tool. Fits in with a dusttopper really nicely in my miter saw cart.

Super helpful video! Thanks for doing it! I'd love to see you compare the big Ridgid to the Dewalt Stealthsonic. Only because my 15yr old Ridgid is starting to overheat when I run it on long CNC projects, so I'm going to need to replace is soon. I just don't want to give up a bunch of performance just for a quieter machine, but if I can get the same performance AND reduce the noise, it's game over for Ridgid in my garage.

I'm going to get the DeWalt Stealthsonic soon and test it because everybody keeps mentioning it so I want to see if it's really worth it.

Volts x Amps/746 is how I shop for power tools, followed by capacity where applicable. It's still mind boggling how people expect to get 6hp of electrical power out of a standard wall outlet. I tell people about CFM calculations all the time too, especially when they're trying to plan for ventilation use for things like fume extractors. "Throw 60 feet of chutes and runners on that and see what happens." Never fails.

when you start doing solid research like that on tools it will blow you away on what's actually good vs name brand hype.

Do the similar sized Ridgid "shop vacs"all have completely different motors or do some of them just have a different housing. I cant see them using separate motors when it would save a lot of $ to just have to purchase 1. I'm also convinced that the metal buckets are louder due to the thin walls. I've got both a plastic and a metal dewalt "shop vac" with the same capacity and the metal one is much louder.

Your right, same motors for the most part. they are tweaked to lower or higher amperage to slow the motor down to help on sound and I'm guessing help boost the numbers for marketing.

You should add craftsman, husky, and Bauer to this test.

I do want to test more brands but its a bit of a rabbit whole. I started with RIDGID because I think most people have them or are at least aware of them.

Try it with velocity tornado to prevent small dust getting to the filter

The dewalts are the best, especially the stealthsonic. My ridgid now lives in the scrap pile for being a noisey piece of shit with the same motor in it theyve been using since the 80s

I did see the DeWalt Stealthsonic when I was looking at different vacs and It had overwhelmingly good responses for how quite it was and I really wanted to test it but I decided to stick to one brand.

There are many breaks at the Dewalt connection point. Otherwise i was thinking of Dewalt. İ'm currently torn between crafstman vacmaster and ridgid. But Craftsman also closed the factory.

I don't consider loudness in the decision matix, the reason being you should use hearing protection all the time and most of the time you'll be using a power tool as well, which also makes a lot of noise, which doubles the reasons to use hearing protection. That said, GREAT video!

COMPLETELY agree!! after years of working in a meat department and years in my shop I have developed Tinnitus and I understand ear protection is a must.

The shop vac I am using now is WAY LOUDER than my table saw or my router table. It is so loud as to be an annoyance even with hearing protection.

Another great video man, awesome job! I hope I'm half as good as your videos when I get up and running. Very informative and well thought out. If I was looking for another (Wet/Dry vac) lol, I would definitely go with your recommendation of the 14 gallon Ridgid. Keep doing you and see you in the next one. Happy Building 💯😁

Testing Home Depot vacuums but no Husky vacs (HD brand)?
@rightsidedownstudio
@rightsidedownstudio 5 месяцев назад
Unfortunately all of the HD's around me wont carry the Husky vacs because the Ridgid head quarters is here so they dominate the shelves. The only other vac brand we have is the cordless Milwaukee. Are the Husky vacs popular in your HD?

The Ridgid vacs have such a good reputation and reasonable price that I wouldn't step down to husky. And truth be told, I didn't even know they had husky vacs.

Are there shop vacs with a soft start out there? I live in a house with crappy aluminum wiring and would also have the vac in a shed hooked up to a long extension cord. I definitely don't need a huge power surge when starting the damn thing.
@rightsidedownstudio
@rightsidedownstudio 2 месяца назад
I've never seen a shop vac with a soft start but I know some of the larger dust extractors do just because the motors are so big. I did some looking around for soft start switches and plugs and found out they are really expensive. The cheapest one I found is this. www.raymondinnovations.com/products/gs10
