Matla is the first sher, the root of this word is tuloo...such as in tuloo e aftab(sunrise) hence it's the first or the opening sher. Makta is the last, the end sher, the root of this word is kata..such as in kata-e taaluq(end of relationship). In the last sher the poets use their name or the literary name also called Takhallus. For isntance in this Ghazal that Jagjit ji is talking about...the Makta is "Ghalib e Khasta ke baghair, kon se kaam bund hain...Royiye zar zar kyoun, kijyey hye hye kya".
