I've spent so much time there. Countless nights and days fishing. I've caught several 20+ inch smallmouth bass more catfish than I can count and quite a few flatheads in the mix. Next year I'm going to enter the smallmouth tournament. I know every inch of this water way and have been enjoying it for the last 20+ years of my life.
We fish sugar creek once a year and always do well with tubes, hellgrammites and any top water noise making lures. never had a double before, cool catch.
In the shallow long flats with little pockets in them is where I love to throw topwater. Usually fish in those areas hear you coming and are gone before you ever got to see them
Yeah for sure! The smallies are pretty perceptive of whats happening around them.... esecially compared to trout, which will tend to just ignore ya walking in the stream 5 ft away from them
Been there doing just that! The bigger the worm, the better I did. Blue was what worked best for me that summer. Hate to say it, but I seen more than one poacher on sugar creek.
I’m 73 and don’t get to do that anymore and I will say she did a good job but you need to hold your rod up in a year so you have less line in the water when you yank you would be surprised how little power a yank from the pole is somebody hold one end and the other one pull the line with a pole
I very rarely overhand cast. The reason a lot of spots have over hanging trees. I worked really hard to get more accurate side arm cast even side arm cast where lure goes straight. I'll usually aim my arm at a 45 degree angle for lure to go straight casting side arm.
i caught my pb smallmouth 200 yards downstream of those bridges. I would rank smallmouth at #2 pound for pound. The top spot would have to go to the bowfin, they fight like they have been pumping iron for 20 years and then just today decided to do some crack
I love fishing the Deer Mill stretch. If you're looking for some bigger Smallies come up to the Eel River in Logansport, Indiana. It's a beautifully clear rock-bottom river that harbors tons of 3-5lb smallmouth.
@reliablyrandomoutdoors I'd say there's more Public Access than you can shake a rod at. There's one about every half mile for 8 to 10 miles and the best Smallmouth fishing in the state. it's my main fishery and it's almost impossible not to catch smallmouth.
I might do that sometime, if i do i will let ya know first.... Im always looking for people to be in the videos with me that are absolute experts.! let me do some research of my own on it first.

So is there a better spot in the state? Of course I mean that whole 30 mile stretch of sugar creek when I say it, but best spot in the state for smallie that I’ve found
@@mikecaldwell7992 fished the blue once about 5 years ago, conditions were horrible though, high water levels.. been wanting to go back again sometime.... maybe this summer
Heddons, oslos, poppers, and perhaps the most effective smallmouth lure ever created, the tube jig. Smallies are unbelievably aggressive, There are a lot of lures that work for them.
@reliablyrandomoutdoors Well if you're gonna make a fishing channel , you might want to produce some content which actually impresses people. There's videos of guys taking their small children out to catch fish that are as exciting as this.

I'm not a douchebag, you don't fucking understand the content you're supposed to be producing. You're supposed to excite people, through your competence (maybe I've found the issue).They're supposed to be living vicariously through the content that you make, otherwise they would just go do it themselves.
