Birdbath vs waveguide optics is a good thing to understand:
All day wearability: Glasses must be under 45grams, and probably under 40 grams, to be all day wearable. I have tried dozens of them for all day use, and this has never been broken. Ray-Ban Meta Stories (latest) are ~49grams, and they are not all day wearable for most people. Of course, ergonomic design and weight balancing is crucial, more weight on ears and good, high spatial area coverage everywhere the glasses distributes weight on the head is crucial for comfort. For example, the Vuzix Shield is 140+ grams, but I can rock it for 4 hours, and ran a 10K wearing them, because the ergonomics design is excellent.
MicroLED light projector with diffractive or reflective waveguide lenses are seen in Vuzix Z100, Inmo Go, Meizu, MYVU, and other current state of the art all day HUD glasses. Waveguide material include plastic, glass, silicon carbide, and resin materials.
Birdbath is seen in XREAL, Rokid, etc. with OLED or other bright and larger projector. These have incredible, bright, high FOV, but they cover the eyes while feeling painful after hours of wear from their nose heavy weight. The latest birdbath glasses can be worn for a few hours (less than 90grams) for some use cases.

You could try this out on any pair of smart glasses that run Android and allows installation of third party apps, and has a camera. Vuzix Shield, Rayneo X2, Inmo Air, etc. just install the app on the glasses.

I am visually impaired and use my iPhone camera to zoom into blackboards, restaurant display menus at far distance or even close up, or when trying to read number of an approaching bus or read distant street signs . Do any of the glasses you’ve reviewed allow you to tele zoom in real time like 5x or more? @@caydengineer How is the translation on the vuzix z100? I think translation seems by far the most revolutionary feature, you said they were the #1 pick for this, but it seems they are still in development, or at least you can on only buy a "developers edition"? All seems a bit weird and markety to me, why don't they legit just come out with these things with apps like any other normal tech thing lol. Does developers edition just mean "we want to cover our asses and bottom line by not putting too much effort in, and therefore won't get in trouble when they're unfinished or don't work bc we called them 'developers' /don't understand the egg must come before the chicken... haha, if that makes sense

Thanks for the excellent summary, subscribed immediately 🙂 To the final question, I am a developer with interest in AR, from Sutherland's Damocles through VFX1 that I met personally, to things that I can play with today. My choice would be a see-through system supporting prescription lenses that I can code directly by managing 3D objects and text in a virtual space real-time. It should support three reference frames. 1: fixed to the glass (HUD), 2: fixed to the body (direction sensors let you look around but things stay with you as you move), 3: fixed to the environment (movement sensors, cameras, etc. - but I can live without it). I would use it for spatial computing: direct graph management in 3D. I randomly looked into some of these alternatives but saw no convincing entry points with that direct coding (my highest priority). What would you recommend to look at? Thanks.
@caydengineer
@caydengineer 4 месяца назад
What do you mean by code directly? Like you want to control your 3D window poses with your own code? If so, maybe look at Simula running on Lenovo A3, Xreal or related. If you want to do custom coding if the environment, it will get more complicated quick, because windows managers/display managers are complex beasts.
@lkedves
@lkedves 4 месяца назад
@@caydengineer I am old school. For me virtual reality is putting 3D polygons or shapes into a 3D space, add two connected virtual cameras. Then, project what they see to the person's eyes and you have a stereoscopic view of that space. If you have a rectangle with text and graphics, locked to the cameras, you have ref frame 1, the HUD. If you update the position of the cameras from directions sensors from the glass, you have ref frame 2. If you have position and direction relative to the environment, that's ref frame 3. Reversing this, I want to have a 3D space for each ref frame, put polygons into them, probably text onto the polygons, then change them from code like games do for decades. But without elephants in the middle... 🙃 [edit] ... probably will try to tame Unity and give Xreal another shot.

@@caydengineer Is it too obstructive at all? Like can i work while emjoying a little video at the corner of my vision i can see nicely? The best would be is if they could act as monitors for computers as well. I don't need a camera either lol. In fact I'd prefer if something like that isn't noticeable. I just wanna enjoy videos and monitors in the background while I work so it looks like I have regular, if not thick and have a cord, glasses lol. (I suppose I can put a piece of tape on them like I'm Poindexter or something lol. Like something fashionable maybe.) If they can be charged, I was thinking more of a battery block in my pocket with a cord snaked through my shirt connecting the two while I also charge my phone seperately,, NOT having it connecting to my phone directly. (Maybe something that has a large battery life. I'm not opposed to bulkier glasses either, as long as they're comfortable and won't slip off my face lol) Ooo maybe even a multi feature where I can have a little note or checklist while I work so I can have a reminder of tasks or things I must remember constantly and can check off with my phone! A multi app feature while I work where I have that and a video would be absolutely perfect!! I mean I'd be happy with just the videos and monitors mind you lol. Also, after answering my question, have you ever considered the idea of a totally Urban Secret computer system utilizing AR glasses? My idea involves it all being wrapped up and hidden Within inside of a sweatshirt, including a face mask that dampens your voice so you can be loud within the presence of others, a battery system lined Within the Torso of the sweatshirt, two separate mini computers connected together on the back of the sweatshirt, and a keyboard hidden within the front pocket of the sweatshirt so it just looks like you have your hands and the little kangaroo pouch in front of the sweatshirt LOL. (These are all things that can be found today btw, I can give you more details on the technology of you're interested) Now you have a secret computer that you can secretely game or talk to your freinds with anywhere. Please steal tf out of this idea and share it with other tech guys in diacord servers, tech events or anywhere else you can if you think its neat. Id love to see it as a thing. ♥ Thank you so much for having the patience to respond to me btw it means a whole lot man. Hope you have an awesome day!

Thanks for your suggestion. A display would not be necessary but they might not be able to touch the glasses or camera for adjustment or interaction if they're doing wound care at the same time (this was an advantage of the Hololens 2 as they could interact without touching any surfaces). The advantage of glasses is that they can be sure the Dr sees exactly what they see without readjusting.@@caydengineer

My question is: Are there any glasses available today that would be convenient for this kind of training, if the video is transmitted directly to the glasses? I need advice, as already now everyone is starting to shoot their videos and possibly at the start, I need to recommend a format for the correct display in the trainer's glasses and their training.

The users wear it while working out? And they're meant to see a video of the trainer in the glasses? It will be tough as the glasses will need to be bulky and heavy to get a nice display, but that is brutally uncomfortable while working out. I ran a 10k wearing Vuzix Shield. Was fun but no normie would have done it haha, and I wouldn't do it again. I use Vuzix Z100 while I work out, but just stream simple information, not a full video. With Continuity mode in IOS, if a pair of glasses has Bluetooth and WiFi, can’t I pair to an iPhone or MacBook and use another manufacturer’s camera glasses as an external video capture for making videos and streaming to RU-vid?
@caydengineer
@caydengineer 4 месяца назад
You can't do the iOS continuity thing with glasses. The only way you could do this without developing your own software or hardware is get glasses that behave as IP cameras, then get an app which streams IP camera to RU-vid/twitch/etc.

I am thinking of a smart glasses that has chaptgpt integrated to it in such a way the AI can help you analyse the person that you are interacting with, and while doing so also help provide prompts on what words can be said the the percentage ratios for each choices of words used when socialising with the person. Sort of like a smar glasses that provide prompts and analyses the person that you are socialising with and can help you better communicate with the person with a selectable choices of words.

Hey. Great video. Up to date and very complete ! Just subscribed ! I run a small software company and we want to focus on development of business applications able to get information on the fly from servers based on objects in the real world, and performs transactions by voice. Like recognize a product in the shelves and bring information about inventory , for example Requirement for such glasses would include... camera to be able to recognize bar codes, qr codes (perhaps rfId ??), software SDK for development of custom applications able to connect to database servers, and speaker/mic able to receive voice information and give voice orders. Be not so heavy so people can use along the work. Based on that, what you would recommend (1) to start with based on cost/benefit (2) as ideal glass ? Again, congratulations for the video and the channel... this new frontier of wearable devices brings amazing possibilities !

I own the new Ray Ban Metas and like them a lot... Battery life is annoying, but the tech is great. The recognizing feature is ok, came close on my car, nailed what was wrong with a plant's health, doesn't know bugs... Any thoughts on when this might be able to be assistive technology for people like me with Prosopagnosia (face blindness)? The Google Glass was promising for us, but died out... looks like the possibilities are emerging again for a helper, would love your thoughts!

I don't think any dust has settled on who puts out the top consumer smart glasses over the next 1, 3, 5 years. I'm told by another Tech reviewer that the RayNeo X2 Lite does not have body-tracking sensors on them (unlike the RayNeo X2 - which does). Comparing the Vuzix Z100 ($799 USD) and the TCL RayNeo X2 ($800 USD), I'll take the TCL RayNeo X2 any day as it has way more features than Vuzix (and Dual Displays in full colour, too!).

TCL Rayneo X2 does indeed have "more features" than Vuzix Z100. However, the Z100 is all-day wearable (lightweight, aesthetic, battery) while the Rayneo X2 is huge, heavy, and offputting to look at someone wearing.

Any smart glasses for billiards that show angles??? Poker???
@caydengineer
@caydengineer 4 месяца назад
For poker, I'd use some of the HUD glasses that feature a camera, like Vuzix Shield. You'd have to have your own custom software developed. For billiards - you'd want some MR glasses with a camera (not many of these unfortunately despite claiming to be AR/MR) which have a large FOV, like XREAL Air 2 Ultra, or probably would have to skip glasses and do it with Meta Quest Pro or similiar passthrough device.

@Jetter638
@Jetter638 4 месяца назад
Thanks for the response, I'll check those out. Wrt to my uses/requirements...if the Meta Ray-ban Smart glasses had a HUD that could display basic info it would do everything that I need it to do now. So my uses would to: - Record pictures (but with landscape) & video (>1min) with FP POV. Mostly for personal use vs content creation for social media. - Listen to music via blue tooth. - Ability to get real time info and display it in a HUD (Directions, AI Query results, Language translation, stuff you can view on your phone). The glasses have to look reasonably normal. You wouldn't catch me dead wearing bird bath glasses or VR googles...in public. I need the glasses to be flexible enough so that I could use them both as prescription glasses and sunglasses. So I would want them to be able to support transition lenses. I think this is the sweet spot for todays technologies and if someone could deliver all of these items (preferably for ~$300) they'd have a winner on their hands. So far Meta is closest to delivering on my wish list. They just need to add a HUD...which from your video sounds like it is coming in 2025. All that said I would like their frames to be a bit thinner and I'd like to see them offer some smaller frames.

Haha, good thing the cars will drive themselves. But when walking, we will need to be concerned. It will be a danger for walking out into traffic. In the past, I would have laughed at that, but I almost did it once, and realised it's a real concern. We'll need cameras in the glasses that detect when we're in danger and warn us/turn off the display, and methods to avoid distraction in the first place (perhaps putting the display up to the top right, not directly in front of the eye).

As a viewer I want you to out line whats available then crtique each classification as a layman/ how it works practically. But give me some time to breathe and may be take down a note or two. Then I can choose what is right for me. selfish yes, I know, but I'm the buyer.
