There's a big difference in how to soundproof a wall when dealing with either low frequency sound and high frequency sound. You will need to use different soundproofing methods for a different types of frequencies of noise.
In this video, I will give examples of the types of noises that are more high-frequency noise and mid-frequency noise and also low-frequency noise and how to use different DIY soundproofing methods to get the job done right to reduce noise.

I really like your channel and your unbiased opinion. If I want to block the noise from my neighbors, mostly tv and voices, but I have a solid brick wall, should I add the drywall directly on it (maybe 2 layers of drywall with mlv between) ? Or should I also have a high density foam glued on the brick wall and the drywall on top of it ? I'm concerned that the sound will go from the brick wall directly to the drywall.

Okay my work office is part of our shop so I constantly hear power tools and the shop employees radios. I currently have drop tile ceiling and the people before me just put a double layer of the tiles which don’t make an impact.. do you have any suggestions?

Looking to insulate a wall from a very noisy washing machine. The spin cycle is like a jet engine. Don't want to tear drywall off. Any decent panels that I can install over existing wall?

I sound proofed my ceiling with r3 Rockwell between joists then 2 layers of sound plasterboard with mlv in-between . I used resilient channels . I no longer hear the steps but I can still hear coughing from upstairs . Any suggestions on how to block that noise as doing ceiling next room soon

Thank you for highlighting the type of sound frequencies. Would the sound of loud kids playing basketball/football (and screaming) from outside the home be considered low frequency or middle frequency? I certainly do hear it, and not sure if this sound is physically felt, or if it's just psychologically felt because it's annoying.
@soundproofguide
@soundproofguide 2 года назад
That would fall in the mid to high range. Especially if it’s coming from outside.

Nice vidéo thanks for that. I was wondering why you never talked about sonopan and your vidéo. Ive hear sonopan its really good to soundproof a wall. I was wondering if sonopan is actually better or worst than massive load vinyl to soundproof

Can you suggest plexiglass as a insulator for noise and cold weather? Held in place with foam insulation strip. I have double pane only 3 yrs old but they are not great. Seeking a DIY option as Indow inserts are expensive. My bedroom windows face the street and I hear the snow plow. Always appreciate your suggestions. Thanks
@soundproofguide
@soundproofguide 2 года назад
Plexiglass won’t work well if you already have double pane windows unfortunately. Even the Indow is more for single pane windows.

I’ll have a window plug video coming up soon. That could potentially help in your situation!
@Blackinterceptor999
@Blackinterceptor999 2 года назад
Definitely a window plug for your situation would be good, I'd tint the window with a reflective tint so it doesn't look bad from the street, in fact I gotta figure out something myself for this upcoming winter here in Oregon...It's already awfully cold at night here due in part to the terrible forest fires we had all around my town last year.

@@soundproofguide I have the same issue as Carol Carol. I have cheap, brand new, tiltable, double pane, double hung vinyl windows that seem to let in low frequency truck vibration noise like knife through butter. I used a sound meter, my ears, and my hands to determine that the main entrypoint of noise (and a little cold air) is where the upper and lower sash meet. What keeps the sashes touching is 1/8 inch pile weatherstripping. Is it possible that the pile weatherstripping doesn't fully block air/sound? Wouldn't adding an airgap via an Indow or plexiglass layer help? I know you mentioned airgap in another video to cut down vibrations. What about adding more weatherstripping?

For a guy with a audio acoustic channel, one would expect to hear a reverbation free room. All those 1" foam panel aren't enough to remove the clear delay we hear. Add more absorbtion like the panel to your rear right my friend... Good content tho.

I have an interesting situation. today, I am getting my condo spray foam insulted. Am I able to use Rockwool Safe and Sound in some areas on top of the spray foam? Its Mainly for Soundproofing as there is Ac Lines in part of my wall.
@soundproofguide
@soundproofguide 2 года назад
Yes you could. The problem with spray foam is that it’s wonderful for heat and cold insulation but terrible for noise isolation.

@@soundproofguide very true. I had the foil back insulation in my walls. I live in canada so -40 degrees, spray foam is a must. Ill add the Safe and Sound in some well needed areas. Thanks

@Blackinterceptor999

What sort of motorcycle are you trying to block the sound from? something like a V-twin cruiser will have a lower frequency than something like a Sport bike's which can be ear splitting loud.

Suspending your sub-woofers and speakers with something like bungee cord off the floor will stop a LOT of the vibration noise transfer. And as for wall and floor treatments, I think it is more like building some legos, you have to complete all the steps before you get your end result, you can't just do one or two things and get something your gonna be happy with.
