Baile Herculane is considered the best and most famous spa resort in Romania situated on the Cerna river between the mountains. Established by the Roman Empire under the name "Ad Aquas Heculis" it was believed that Hercules himself stopped in the valley to bathe and rest. Also in modern times during the Austro-Hungarian period Baile Herculane was the favorite retreat for the Emperor. Franz Joseph I declared in 1852 that in the Cerna Valley, there is the most beautiful resort on the continent! In present times the spa resort was left in decay by the Romania's authorities with it's beautiful buildings degrading day by day. We can only hope that in the future the resort will once again regain its former glory. Enjoy the video!
