The Aussie Fisherman Greg catching big mudcrabs, in his Bonito fibreglass boat and his Yamaha outboard motor. I highly recommend Yamaha outboard motors for professional and recreational fishiers and crabbers. They are good on fuel and are the most reliable outboard motor in have ever used in my forty-six years of being a professional fisherman. I have had plenty of definite brands.
Getting back to pulling up my ultimate pro crab pot and putting it in the boat the right way. Making sure not to damage the crabs.
Putting fresh mullet bait in the crabpot.
When I was doing my apprenticeship as a bricklayer, on weekends when I was not laying bricks, one of my mates and I would go crab hooking. To do this y,you need a crab hook which is a 2 metre long steel round bar about 10mm thick with a handle on one end and curved on the other end. The mudcrabs like to dig deep holes in the mudbank and stay in there on the big tides. So when the tide is out w,e would find the crab holes and put the hook in . Soon as the hook hit the crab it would make a noise so we knew there was a crab in there. You just put the hook around the back of the crab and pull it out. It is illegal to do this now
That's the reason why I set my crab pot in that spot, so I could catch the mudcrabs going up the little channel to there crab holes. A good tip is,if you see big crab holes in the mudbank and lots of crab digging when the tide is out, it probably a great spot to set your crabpot for when the tide comes back in.
Show how to tie up mudcrabs the easy way.
Make sure the crabpot door is closed so the crabs can not get back out after they have a feed.
A safety tip, I have a rope tied to my leg and back to the motor, where it has a kill switch to stop the motor if I fall out of the boat. I don't want to be swimming after a boat that is motoring away. Where I do my crabbing there is lots of huge crocodiles so I don't want to be in that water too long
Make sure you throw the crabpot in the water the right way, if the crabpot is upside down the crabs will sit on top of the pot and try to eat the bait and not go into the crabpot.
I hope some of this will help you catch more mudcrabs and enjoy your day on the water.
If you enjoy my fishing and mudcrabbing videos, please tell your friends about my channel and ask them to like and subscribe. Thank you. It doesn't cost anything to subscribe. The Aussie Fisherman Greg, see you up the creek 😊. I am on instagram and Facebook as the Aussie Fisherman.

You are, without a doubt, the most organised pro fisherman I've ever seen 👏 One very small comment: your leg rope to the kill switch, would a Velcro leg rope from a surfboard be more comfortable?

Hi Ron, thank you for your nice comment. Yeah that would be alright, just it may not be long enough. I need to get up to the front of the boat, which I need about 4 to 5 metres. With out stopping the motor. I like the Velcro idea. Cheers Greg 😊.

New Subscriber, where are you based? and a really great video just to short LOL. I love your boat from what I saw, I am only just going to come back to fishing and crabbing after decades away and I bought an old fibreglass boat a lot like yours and I am so keen to get back out onto the water. I am currently working around Hervey Bay so on my off days I intend to get in some fun boating, Fishing and Crabbing Cheers Garry

Hi Garry, Thank you for subscribing and commenting. I work in the Mackay area. I I am really happy with my Bonito fibreglass boat. They have lots of room and are very seaworthy. I love doing what I do. That's why I am still working. I'm glad you like the same. Just leave a comment if there is anything else that you don't see in any of my videos you want to know about fishing and crabbing. Cheers Greg 😊.

Hey mate, fellow Mackay local. Curious, do you run any other licenses or just the crabs? When you’re moving and resetting the pots do you find that the best time to do that is the run in?
@theaussiefisherman1831
@theaussiefisherman1831 5 месяцев назад
Hi mate, I crab and line fish. I like to move my pots most days. Now and then, I will set the pot in the same place. I think it doesn't matter what part of the tide, The crabs are on the move most of the time looking for a feed. Cheers Greg 😊

How many pots do you run. What kinda money is there in being a pro crabber. Would you get half what they sell in the markets. So about $15-$20kg for A grade. Cheers love your channel

Hi mate, I run about 70 pots. The price fluctuate all through the year. At times we get a good return. Most of the time it is pretty ordinary. The main reason for not making good money any more. Is the government keeps changing the rules, which is making a good living out of professional fishing and crabbing impossible. There is no certainty in professional fishing any more, They have made it so tough you would have to have rocks in your head to start a fishing business in the future. The ones that are still in the industry are like me, they have been doing it for so many years, it to late to get a job doing something else. The main reason is I still love fishing and crabbing and I will try to do it as long as my health let's me. Regardless of how little money I make. I am so glad you like my channel thank you very much. Cheers Greg 😊.
