The accuracy of the stock footage in this video is appalling. Many of the birds are from Central or South America. When the reporter refers to a warbler seen at Kingman, a photo pops up of a Eurasian warbler. With all of the knowledgeable birders featured in this video, your team couldn’t bother to ask one of them for help?

Did you catch the name of the place he said you were in the canopy with birds? Also what about Southern VA place?

@@laurajeanehamlin-livingsto5518 The "canopy with birds" place he mentioned is Anacostia Park, which is a good park - especially in the winter for ducks and gulls. While the bridge allows observers a better view of passerines (perching birds like warblers, cardinals, finches, vireos, etc), it doesn't go quite as high as the canopy level. Huntley Meadows is in Fairfax Co, just south of Alexandria, is another place that is mentioned. The benefit of Huntley is that due to the boardwalk there, birders have the ability to get much closer to species, like ducks (northern pintail and green-winged teal), Wilson's snipe, and even sora in the winter. During spring and fall migration, time your visit for low tide, and you'll be able to see waders (shorebirds) like greater and lesser yellowlegs, least sandpiper, semipalmated sandpiper, pectoral sandpiper, and others. During the summer (as in right now), it's a good spot for great egrets and little blue herons, and possibly snowy egrets. Red-headed woodpeckers and prothonotary warblers breed there (among other species). Huntley is also a good place to bird if one has a non-birding partner or spouse, or children. For children, there's an educational aspect to the boardwalk.

@@laurajeanehamlin-livingsto5518 I agree with Tykee about Kenilworth (part of the National Park Service) - this is my favorite birding location in DC, and it's good year-round. There are two sections to what people call Kenilworth. First, there's Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, which is open daily from 8 am to 4 pm. It's open every day of the year except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. The aquatic plant blooms are at their peak right now, and there's been a vagrant roseate spoonbill hanging out there for the past week. The other part of Kenilworth is Kenilworth Park, which is essentially open every day from sunrise to sunset. The park has expanses of undeveloped areas that attract a lot of breeders, such as the threatened blue grosbeak. In March, this is a great spot for American woodcock. The park attracts rare birds at a higher clip than anywhere else in the city, save for Hains Point at East Potomac Park. Unfortunately, there can be some crime here from time to time, but it happens very rarely. This place is heavily birded, so you're liable to run into other birders, who will be helpful. I've lived in five different cities on both coasts of the country and I find DC birders, on a whole, to be the nicest and most helpful.

If you choose to go to Huntley Meadows on the weekend, go early. The parking lot fills up VERY fast.
