Those that have known me for the last 7 years know I have, obviously, grown obsessed with roller coasters. Those than have known me for the last 25-30 years? They know I have always loved geography! Especially the unique differences and intricacies of the 50 states here in the US. Therefore, it was always inevitable that I would one day produce content combining the two. Over a series of 5 videos, join me as I rank all 50 states based on how good their specific roller coaster collection is! It for sure won't be based on quantity alone, when in actuality, there will be way more emphasis on quality. In this edition, the penultimate video, part #4, we kick of the top 20 states, with #20-#11! Each of the states either have a lot of coasters, multiple parks, or something truly worth traveling for. Most all of the above! Enjoy all :)

Colorado took a big hit when the original Elitch Gardens, which was actually further out in the periphery of the city, shut down. That was a wonderful park and it had a legendary coaster, Mr. Twister, the first big coaster I ever rode and probably way too much for me at the time! Knoebels' Twister and Elitch's Twister II are both attempted homages to it, but they're not duplicates of it. There was also a milder woodie named Wildcat.

Incredibly well done series overall! Rode the Coney Island Cyclone a couple weeks back and it's a gem. However, I closed down Six Flags NE riding Wicked Cyclone the other night and that is on a whole other level altogether. My sweet spot is hands up in the second to last row so I'm not on a wheel seat. As RMCs tend to run faster every time through the track, by the end of the night it was like they strapped a rocket to the back of the train, so that it RIPPED right through to the break run! It was already my #1 but now I can't throw enough superlatives at it. I was levitating off my seat nonstop in the wildest rides ever! (be sure to close the park riding this next time you're there!!!) Heading to Hershey next week to see if anything can unseat it, particularly late-night rides on Wildcat's Revenge! Thank you for being a part of my rebirth as a true roller coaster enthusiast!

@DZH22

@@coaster365 I just think it's an interesting fact that RMC's tend to pick up speed with every ride throughout the day. When I rode this one around 3:00 my random riding partner commented that it was running much faster than in the morning. By nightfall it was a whole different beast altogether, with all the cumulative speed gains. Too many people miss out on the true power of RMC's by riding them too early in the day. It goes from "warming up" to "heating up" and doesn't seem to have a ceiling, other than closing time resetting the process. Anybody who claims Wicked Cyclone crawls through the final lap doesn't understand what this coaster is capable of. Do you know if all the I-box RMC's keep getting faster with every ride, and if this quirk extends to their other offerings like the single-rails?
@coaster365
@coaster365 3 месяца назад
@@DZH22 coasters in general (and yeah, maybe more so RMC’s) do get faster as the track warms up, weather for sure plays a part too! But the exact reason for why is a math formula way beyond my head 😅
@MattMcIrvin
@MattMcIrvin 2 месяца назад
Wicked Cyclone was underrated for a long time but it seems like it's starting to get its due. I remember a lot of complaints about it slowing down on the third lap, but they seem to have done something about that around the first time I rode it. It opened at the same time as Twisted Colossus at SFMM and at the time, Twisted Colossus got all the attention, but many enthusiasts now rate Wicked Cyclone higher (maybe because Twisted Colossus rarely duels any more).

@@zachery4742 Eh. Mr Freeze is the only notable ride at SFStLnationally IMO. Batman would be more notable as a namtaB version but the one in Texas seems to run a bit more intense and a bit better overall. American Thunder is in the lower half of GCIs. SFStL is probably hurting the state for this listing more than it's helping. It could REALLY use a hyper or RMC'd Boss. I mean I'd love both but that's even more unrealistic. It'd be fun to see Chance get a new hyper out there - even seeing SFStL do it. I bet it'd be cheaper than a B&M. Imagine a big Lightning Run.

@MattMcIrvin
@MattMcIrvin 2 месяца назад
Mine too! All the significant coasters in MA are at Six Flags New England, but that's a couple hours' drive from here and Canobie is right up the road. Canobie's an overall better park, too, though its coasters are more minor (I love them anyway). The landscaping is pretty, it's clean, it's just more laid-back. The barbecue joint by the Dodgems has to be some of the best food I've ever had in an amusement park, including Disney parks. The biggest problem with the place is that there's clearly more demand for the waterpark than they really have capacity to serve, but you don't have to be a genius to guess that it's expanding into the old Canobie Corkscrew area. I've got to admit, though, SFNE's one-two punch is hard to beat--those two rides are still my favorite coasters in the world.

You know Bryant, as a person with HUGE Idaho bias (my home and love) I was okay with it at 25 in the last video, I couldn’t think of states that were clearly worse, but then you started this one off with COLORADO?! Colorado is in the top 20?!? From how I feel living here before watching this series, I'm stunned. I always joke that we're in the coaster doldrums. Lakeside is extremely bizarre and definitely not worth a visit with Cyclone SBNO. Elitch Gardens is in an extremely sad situation these days from a maintenance and quality of rides perspective. This park's best coaster argument is between a Vekoma SLC or a Vekoma Boomerang. Yes, it's that pathetic (the most interesting coaster is Sidewinder, an Arrow Shuttle Loop, but it has SBNO for a while now with nothing but empty promises to open). Elitch is supposedly going to have to move from its current location (which has absolutely no room to expand) due to the land being sold to a real estate developer. I'm really hoping they are saving their money to make the park a true destination after the move. I really need to get up to Glenwood this summer, maybe I'll feel less bad about my state if I do.

I think you have the right 11 states in the top 11. Not sure about the order yet but you have the right states. I am one that thinks you have a little northeast bias as you stated. I find the restraints to be brutal on Superman and it isn’t in my top 50. Wicked cyclone also has its problems as I’m not a big fan of when a coaster just dies and my rides on it, the pacing on that third lap isn’t good. But the stuff before that is good enough for it to be in my top 50. But I would strongly prefer storm chaser to it. I would move mass behind Kentucky, SC, and NC. And yes Swamp Fox is really good.

I am probably in a very small minority, but I put Comet over Cyclone. I am biased since Great Escape is my home park, but I stand by it. I've always had a better time on Comet. New York's biggest problem in this race is that Great Adventure is NYC's park. It's in New Jersey, but everyone knows it's NYC's park. So as far as NY is concerned, they are doing great and don't need to up there game. Being from the way north of the state, I disagree, but just like most things in NYS, NYC rules and we take what's left.

No complaints from me, and I have a pretty good idea where my home will end up next week, so no problem there. I'll be That Guy and point out that the "you may never leave the borders of your state again" rule works against New York here. There are a ton of quality parks within a couple hours of NYC, but yes, if the borders were locked down, New York would be an unhappy coaster state.
