Thanks everyone for your comments! We appreciate all your different opinions and that is why making these is so tough! At least we get a good reason to watch some amazing moments once again.. (not that we needed one) 😉
U should've done a top 15 for each event. Its hard to matchup bar dismounts with vaults and beam dismounts and floor passes. Lol but thanks for the vid.
And yeah Kerri Strug will always be the ULTIMATE STUCK LANDING TIL IDK WHEN! She won the U.S. the gold medal in Atlanta first time ever in gymnastics history.
Let me enlighten you please, the music that you hear is from the underworld, these half 'n' halfs open portals to demonic realms, this is how they're able to perform so well and magically fly in the air.
I think there is more iconic than this choice. For example, raisman opening sequence fx ef 2012, johnson bars 2008, double2 layout all around, ponor beam dismount 2004 ef.
shar - ky and also Nastia balance bean stuck dismount in 2008 Olympics all round. I ll never forget Yao Jinnan always sticking her double layout dismount
Back when "Sticking the landing" actually mean something !!! Now you just see too many small hops, steps or tumbling right off the mat....Good video, thank you for looking at all of these for the video!!
Maritza Avila Now days the girls need more muscle for trickier acrobatics too. Like for Simone Biles to stick her triple twist double layout on floor, she needs and HAS some serious leg muscles! And events like beam with all the pirouettes and all the release acro (a release on high bar into a flip back onto the bar) and straight into transition to low bar, that takes a lot of upper body strength, like the biceps, triceps, pecs, lats. Artistic Gymnastics in 2020 has gotten very competitive and the requirements very much more difficult.
Yeah the whole time I was thinking about how each and every one of these competitors has probably had several coaches body shame them and tell them to starve themselves, lose weight, and look a certain way their entire careers. It's honestly concerning that the Olympics RU-vid channel would post an "overall best _" video and mostly include older footage that glorifies unhealthy standards for gymnasts. Also, there are some crazy stuck landings that have been performed by POC that are curiously not included either.
I'm surprised by some of these choices. Simona Amanar did not stick her vault. Her left foot slid back. As iconic as McKayla Maroney's vault is, it's technically not a stuck landing. She shifted her weight forward, and then turned to salute the judges. Also Nadia Comaneci's bar dismount was clearly not a stick. Shawn Johnson's bars at the 08 Olympics was a great stick though.
But nadia competed during 1976, and the way she stuck it counted back then. Thats why she got a perfect 10. Iconic. Even thought mykayla took a step forward really fast, she still stuck it.
agree about maroney and nadia. Maroney's was stuck more than nadia's and then we later learned than McKayla had a stress fracture or some sort of leg injury during those games.
I am surprised how no one is talking about Nadia in here when she was the first and only gymnast to score a perfect '10' till date .. not just once but six more times.
I agree, but hers wasn't technically a stuck landing, because she hopped. But still I think her landing on one foot is better than all of these sticks!
Everytime I rewatch this I get a instant backache watching Nastia's vault at k landing. I don't know why it looks so much more painful than any other, but the shockwaves to my head just hurts.
87 to 2002 those yrs in gymnastics for men and women were incredible. Every country was competitive. From 87- 2000, the Romanian woman were the best. In my opinion Shannon Miller was one of the all greats. Top 5 all time. Some of you will disagree, that's OK. Well peace
yeah just because they are clever to quickly salute the judges does not mean it's stuck. Maroney couldnt keep the "stuck landing" for even half a second bcause it wasnt stuck. But it was, even so, one of the best vaults ever.
It's sad that Romania is no longer at the forefront of producing caliber gymnasts, worthy of multiple Olympic medals. Iordache could have done so, but unfortunately, she got injured.
I'm sorry, but the fact that Keri Strugg's one footed landing on vault in 96 isn't number one one is just flat wrong. I'd like to see anyone else do it.
i know Nadia got a 10....and at the time probably deserved it....but the landing was just a little too quick for me....McKayla came close too....9.95 for both from me.....lol
@@andigomez1993 Me too. I didn't wake people up, but I jumped off the sofa and yelled. And I wasn't even a very big fan of hers. But that was an epic moment.
@@Pats308 it's also the year she lost the all around by .05 to a Russian that didn't even qualify for the all around, Svetlana gave up her spot for her, and then the russian was overscored, and it's kind of ironic that it's this clip of her that they show, because this is where she should have easily outscored the russian by at least .1 who did not perform as well. The Olympics hadn't quite caught on yet just how rampid the scoring was until the skating in 2002 where there was no way to hide the obvious scoring scandal. Anyways, love the videos and Maroney's vault was iconic
angela1504 she didn’t stick it. Although her vault was amazing she was taking hops as she was saluting and landing. I mean keep in mind she also broke her ankle but it wasn’t a stick I wish though that would’ve been awesome
Almost every tumbling pass from Sandra Izbasa 2008 Fx EF, Catalina Ponor 2012 Fx EF, Viktoria Komova 2012 Fx AA could be featured here. Also every full twisting double back dismount off beam by Shannon Miller.
What about Mary Lou Retton’s AA vault at the 1984 Olympics? Two stuck landings in a row! And man, I’m old if that is the one that instantly came to my mind with this video title...,
She even said after the first vault that she was smiling coming down because she knew she could control that landing. Two perfect ten vaults in a row for the gold, and she didn't even need to do the second vault.
No Kerri Strug?? Really???? That women performed vault with an INJURED FOOT and landed on foot!!!~~ that right there is the most memorable perfect inspirational landing of all time
Agreed. Maroney’s vault was probably the best amanar ever but she cheated that landing. She did not stay in her landing position long enough before she stepped out to present to the judges and crowd.
Mikayla had an excellent vault BUT that's not really a stuck landing, she was leaning foward and had to change position really quickly, well at least that's my opinion (and from other people that I've seen). A good example of a beautiful stuck landing is Nastia's AA vault in Beijing and other examples in this video. But oh well.
@@inezmickel1274 She didn't stick it. She hopped about. It was glorious and iconic but not a stick. Though, most "sticks" in this video weren't really sticks, so very easy to be confused.
@@blissgustafson1174 Aaaabsolutely not. She instantaneously hops back the moment she lands, holds that for just about a second, then begins hopping to salute before kneeling. Sticks require full control before salute - which she never had at any point - and ofc no movement before the turn. Two seconds is also very long. For comparison, men's rings holds are 2sec, and no one holds landings that long. But she never fully stopped moving anyway. You may need to re-watch. She can still be incredible (in spite of them pushing her to do a completely unnecessary VT) while still recognizing it's nothing close to a stick.
Yes! Her or Simone. But actually the landing showed is it perfectly stuck. She moves one her feet. That always bother me a little when I watch her perfect ten routine...
What about Mary Lou Retton's GOLD perfect 10 vault in 1984? and she did it TWICE! AND: Olga Korbut's FAB landings in 1972 on DIFFICULT uneven bar routine's she did???? Kim
They used to be. Everyone has their time. Maybe if they can get their coaching up to par again. I've always enjoyed watching them. Especially in the 90's.
