Best Styled American Car Ever Made? The 1967 Cadillac Eldorado (with just 18k miles) 

This car is a mid-century modern masterpiece. Simply stunning.

I'm one is Stan's three daughters. We have all loved watching this video of your '67 Eldorado. Dad was very proud of this car. My husband, in fact, was tempted to buy one he ran across last year. I just love American car styling from the mid 60's to early 70's, nothing else quite looked like them or had the same road presence. This Cadillac is a piece of automotive art, probably not engineering automotive art with that simplistic suspension set up but to look at it is visually brilliant. I especially liked your 66 Pontiac Catalina coupe, 1966 was an amazing year for GM styling teams. I especially like the 1965 Buick Riviera 🤤🤤. American vehicles had such a strong feel of being pure Americana from this era, nowadays American auto manufacturers have lost their identity styling wise with big ugly SUVs today. I live in Europe so these mid 60's to early 70's yank tanks are quite exotic to me. You could provide vehicles for American period tv shows with your collection, a lot of these vehicles were part of the street furniture and culture from these periods. Many were probably once common family work horses and run into the ground, so few probably survive. Many of the commonest vehicles of an era can become the rarest, and the ones people from those times remember the most. The 70's Plymouth Fury you exhibited a few days ago was especially cool.

Your Eldorado is absolutely beautiful! Best of luck with it! I have always thought that 1967 was the best year for GM car in terms of styling. There are so many GM cars that IMO, ‘67 was there best year. Cars like the Pontiac Grand Prix, Impala SS Fastback, Pontiac GTO, Buick Riviera, Oldsmobile Toronado, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Chevrolet Chevelle, Pontiac Firebird, Chevrolet Camaro, Cadillac Eldorado, the list goes on and on.

The '67 Eldo was a real game changer for GM, Cadillac, and the entire automobile world.

To get power "vent" (rear) windows, one selected option "N" on the Eldorado order sheet. You could select every tiny little thing on these cars. For example, my '67 has power "vent" windows but no power (vacuum) door locks. (One less coffee can under the hood for me.) The chrome rear-window surround is an ongoing mystery. My best guess at this point is that some dealers created their own trim packages that included a chromed rear-window surround. Since all '67 Eldorados rolled off the same assembly line - a new line built just for the Eldorado that operated at half speed for one shift only - the source of a chromed rear-window trim may well have been external to the factory. Another one-year-only trait of the '67 is the single, round external, remote-control rear-view mirror. It was a simple affair with the mirror lens simply mounted on a stick, with the whole mirror base firmly mounted to the door. There was no option in 1967 for a passenger-side mirror. Pedestrian-safety and driver-visibility regulations changed that mirror for 1968. To increase rearward visibility, the mirror became larger and rectangular. For pedestrian safety, the 1968 mirror had to be attached to the door in such a way that it allowed for the mirror to break off more easily. The '68 mirror remote control is operated through three small cables that run through a break-away mirror base. In other words, you can't easily swap a '68 mirror for a '67. They're completely different. Thanks for another great video!

I don't know if I could ever pick a "best" styled American car because there were so many, from the 30s-70s. That being said, this is definitely one of the best! While I might personally prefer the stacked lights and extra size of a 67 Deville, an Eldorado this clean and in this excellent color combo is hard to argue with. Brilliant car Adam, glad you got it! And thanks to the fellow viewer who sent it along! I'll keep my eyes out for that Toro and the V6 Cimmaron... although I'll be honest, we don't get many low mileage, nice conditions cars in my neck of the woods. I'm sure somebody will help you find some nice examples.

I believe it to be the very best looking Automobile ever and never challenged again by Cadillac stylists. The 1966 Toronado and Riviera were styling pinnacle's! as well!

I concur, one of the most beautiful of the GM's. The 73 Grand Prix used the hot wire rear glass but abandoned for the 74's forward.

Adam, congratulations, I can feel your excitement coming through! My friend's Dad had one of these in 1967, in gold. Another friend's Dad had a '66 Toronado, we used to sit inside and play with the dash controls, it was like being in a spaceship.

Next to the Buick Riviera, this is my favorite car of the class. The wheels leave a lot to be desired with today's options, but putting them in a locker and and choosing something more flattering would make this as beautiful as it gets 😍

Back in 1972 I was a car painter, I had my girlfriend s 67 Pontiac Tempest all prepared and ready to paint "baby blue with red pearl." I rented a spraybooth in Lynwood, California. As I was putting my girlfriend s car in the booth, the other booth doors were open and the most beautiful 1967 Cadillac Eldorado, it was dark Emerald Green pearl I ever saw !! Your car reminds me of it. Great design.

THIS.. IS the First Car, 1968 model.. I ever got behind the wheel of... long before (3 years) I was of the legal age to have my driver's license.. to try it for a mile or so in a straight line, with no traffic. My first driving lesson and experience as I was being chauffuered to school. What a treat it was.

Regarding the battery, it appears to be the same type and style that came on my Father's 1968 Buick Riviera, which he purchased new. That leads me to believe it is a NOS, or the actual original (since the rest of the car is so well preserved). Great video!

I still remember these beauties from the ads in National Geographic Magazine that my dad was subscribed to in the ‘60s. I wasn’t even a teenager but when the magazines landed in the garbage years later I remember me (a teenager in the meantime😂) cutting out these ads. I still must have them somewhere🤔

This was nice and informative. I liked hearing about the Oldsmobile Toronado connection and the things associated with the car. This Eldorado influenced Eldorado for may generations afterward. I think the last generation Eldorado tried to recapture this cars mystique. The door trim panels on the interior remind me of the 1979-1985 Eldorado. They had a lot of Cadillac exclusives and features that later spread to other GM brands later too. Thank you again Adam. After watching this you want to sing the Cadillac Style theme song. Just imagine is Cadillac of today made an electric car that was an Eldorado. This car had style and substance.

Great review. Great car. Here's my story of a similar car. In 1982 I was 15 and had a paper route and no license yet. A neighbor had three cars in their driveway that didn't run.. including one of these Eldorado and a 69 toronado. The owner wanting to move from Wisconsin to Arizona said to 15 year old me: "you can have all three cars free if you just get them out of here".. I could not believe it! I exhausted all options (not having anywhere to go with them, much less, any money) and the cars went to the crusher.. so sad. I think about this often. Thank you for this fine review.

What a gorgeous car. I have always gravitated toward cars of this ilk. My first car I ever owned as a teenager in the 70's, was a 66 Riviera GS. In to the 80's I had T-Birds, Toro's, and one 1969 Eldo. (they were *cheap* then) I was glad you mentioned the speedometer face. I once passed on buying a '67 Eldorado because the speedometer face actually had some nasty surface rust. You have some amazing cars, BTW!

My father worked at Cadillac in Detroit Michigan in the engineering building from 1965 to 1994. He was a wood model maker. I remember going out to dinner with upper management with my mother and father. I was just a kid…

The dash looks alot like the DeVille. my grandfather drove a silver 67 Coupe DeVille with a black interior and black vinyl top. What a striking car!!

I agree. These are in the top 3 or 4 best GM cars styling wise. I would go 66 Toronado, 63 Corvette, 68 Eldorado and 66 Riviera in that order.

Amazing, beautiful car. I never really liked the front fender filler pieces on the 67. They reminded me of the blanking pieces used if you did not order a radio or clock. I prefer the fender mounted turn signals on the 68,and the beautiful wreath and crest rear side marker lights.

Gen 2 Corvair is the best gm ever did styling wise. All the attributes you want without any excess. Just right.

A lot of late model Cadillacs have similar design features with sharp lines edges and creases but this car is a beauty I love the back of the car especially the tail lights.

Absolutely gorgeous cars. It brings back a lot of childhood memories. My uncle had one in the late 60's. It was a quiet and smooth car to ride in and incredibly luxurious for the time.

You are so right about those horrible chrome door edge guards...why detract from the look of your car forever to protect against the possibility of nicking a door edge? Great video! I was 12 years old when this came out and was in awe of it. Many years later, I got the chance to own one...as well as its archrival, the Mark III. Sold the Eldorado...kept the Mark III, which - to me - is equally attractive, but much better built.

This vehicle's design was so far ahead of the rest of the industry at the time, it wasn't even funny. This car still looked showroom "fresh" in 1975! These could be had with the very rare heated seats--did Ford or Chrysler luxury divisions offer that at the time??!! Beautiful score Adam!

May I, in my humble opinion, offer some other possibilities, within their respective decades: 1971-1977 AMC Hornet Sportabout wagon. 1965-1969 Chevrolet Corvair coupe. or 1968 Dodge Charger. 1953 Studebaker Starlight Coupe. 1940 Ford 5-window coupe. This is a great topic full of opinions. No one is wrong. The choices are endless. Keep up the exceptional work that you do. Your topics are top notch.

I had a '68 in triple black. It had a 501 transplant from a '70 and was a torque monster. Would smoke the front tires for days. Loved that car.

Stunning car. I'm amazed that American auto makers were able to change styling and engines almost every year in many cases and all without computers. The craftsmanship and engineering blows my mind. Of course they didn't have emissions to deal with or crash test results but still it was quite a feat.

The battery looks like a reproduction of ‘60’s AC Delco Battery. When I use to show my ‘69 Dodge Charger, I bought a battery from a company that sold new batteries that looked like vintage batteries. You could search on their website by the year, make and model car you had and the battery that it came with from the factory would pop up with options for CCAs

There are so many pieces on the 1967 that are one-year-only: the taillights, the cornering lights, the parking lights, the exposed wipers, the exquisite trunk vents. It, and the 1968, do indeed represent the zenith of American production car styling. And the Aerovette that of concept cars. Experiencing the latter at the Petersen a few years ago after admiring it for decades was beyond surreal.

I am glad you bring up the reasons why cars can no longer be built in the old ways due to safety and fuel economy standards. People always forget that due to regulations is the reason why so may of today's cars look the way they do. Do they still make cars in the United States? Mostly honking HUGE SUV's that go against everything just mentioned. A "brick" on four wheels so that the house frauen can go to Costco and load up the truck with processed food and other junk. Lovely 1967 model.

What I would like to humble ask, is if you could feature exterior footage of the vehicle in motion-down a country road, on a freeway, oval or test track-coming and going-these are such gorgeous cars. Maybe even one of your ‘73 burnout. 🤜🏼🤛🏼 Some youtube vids have a simple camera set up alongside the road-no additional person needed to film. (I fondly remember Bud Lindeman’s “Road Test” Saturday series, several before I could drive. Once I saw those late ‘60s cars on the track…oh, just wow. )
