Thanks for all you do! If you're going to purge any ultra coarse (320-ish) stones, count me in!
Suggest that you divide this into a competition bracket or other spreadsheet. Weigh the process based on quantitative, qualitative measurements and finally overall value. Of course it’s all based on personal opinion but take out as many variables as possible. Your thoughts are valued Ryky. It would also be nice to know if or how the manufacturer can control consistency. -the chosera or sharpton may be amazing right now but what are the factors that could knock them off and put king on top. If you ever would welcome a chat, I live 10 min north of the airport and would like to say hi and help. You may value feedback or another perspective from what a student is learning. Requesting a “best of boning knives”. I found a new love, cutting Costco bulk meats and want to upgrade my used and still capable Wusthof pro 7”. Other minor requests: Damascus, I love the look of it but is it right for me; Smaller knifes, utilities and specialty knifes. Consider knives based on dietary needs by region (Keto, vegan, pescatarian...) Go enjoy the kids, and thank you.
Ryky, you’re so humble in the opening narrative. I can see that the more experienced you’ve become you realize how much more there is to know. Very good personality trait.
Definitely on the look out for a new whetstone. Right now based on your advise I am working with what I have which is a harbor freight stone for coarse and a cheap 1000/6000 stone.
Can anyone tell me if Kai Shun DM0708 300/1000 grit or Kai AP-0305 400/1000 are good stones. Also if anyone knows something about Zokura 300/1000 . These are the only one sold in my country aside from 2$ stones. I love knives I have Wutshof, and shun also hunting knives with s90v steel so I really want to learn to sharpen.
So would love a new wet stone, I currently only have the king 1000/4000 combination stone, and it’s been worn down quite a bit! A finer grit or rougher one would definitely be nice!
hmmm.... i use two for my personal knives. the naniwa pro 800 and 3000 . i have a the atoma 140 for REALLY dull knives, and chips, and then i keep the kitayama 8000 when i REALLY want a mirror on the edge. all here burrfectionstore.com/collections/whetstones-sharpening-kits/products/naniwa-by-ryky-800-3000-professional-combo-stone-set
Hi Ryky, i purchased the naniwa lobster 3 stone set 220 grit, 1000 grit, 3000 grit through your link to sharpening supplies.com.. i got them for the price and the thickness. to what hardness of knives can these stones handle. or is it one those things you get what you pay for. anyways thanks for your vids, i am learning lots.
Hi Ricky, have you taken a look at the Pride water stones made in Wisconsin? I saw one at the store, but didn't know anything about it. It looked well finished, but there weren't any reviews and comparisons of them online.
yo I am definitely interested in a free stone. you have some dope stones. I've been collecting pocket and fixed blade knives for over 10 years now. I've been meaning to get a good sharpening stone, but as soon as I get money, I always buy a knife.
Thanks for all your videos! I would love to see or hear how you keep your hands clean after sharpening with whetstone. Sediment gets stuck in my nails and...keep up the good work.
Hey Ricky, was wondering if you had recommendations on a budget friendly vegetable knife? Recently made the switch to vegetarian and cutting some of the harder vegetables gets old fast
sign me up for the give away! Am heading to culinary school soon so it might be nice to learn some knife sharpening since culinary school knives are notoriously cheap!
G'day Ricky, I keep getting bombarded with advertising on social media from a company called Kamikoto. and they're claiming to be selling $3000~ knives for just $300~ I'd love it if you could do a review as all the reviews I've found seem biased or bought. Cheers.
