Stand By Me and Lost Boys are perfect summer movie’s to me, plus I remember watching them a lot during the school summer holidays. Falling Down too, you can really feel the heat in that film.
While I agree with Raiders, Jaws and close encounters all being summertime movies, ET is more suited for fall IMO. The setting around Halloween and Elliot skipping school plays a big part in that movie.
Dazed and Confused and Everybody Wants Some!!! are quintessential summer movies to me. Last day of school and last day before college. Could it be anymore summer-y than that. Also watched The Swimmer for the first time a couple of days ago and that at least starts as a summer movie. Really liked that one.
I agree. I remember watching it in theaters and it was an incredible feeling walking out of the cinema, i feel that I won’t get that feeling again with another summer movie.
I'd add American Graffiti. I mean you get a group of coming of age people cruising over one hot summer night all over the town while at the same the time the film captures the very core of American culture of the time. A masterpiece Also, I like to add Now and Then. I know it has so many flaws, but I just can't have the list of summer movies without it
Oh wow. This has been sitting in my watch later for so long and I never thought you'd actually pick my comment. Thanks! Glad to see The Florida Project get some much deserved attention
Glad you mentioned the Magnificent Seven. I think Westerns in genereal are a great summer Genre. Have you done a Best Western Movies video yet? Movies featuring Best Western hotels...
All great choices thanks again! I would recommend “Body Heat” 1981 , the Florida heatwave is really a central character, remember Ted Danson always drinking ice tea because of the heat, everyone sweating a lot in that classic,
One of the best in the noir genre, and no they don't have to be in b&w. Actually filmed in mid-winter, if I recall, but perfectly captures the oppressive feel of a bad summer in Florida.
The Way Way Back is a perfectly underrated summer movie about a socially awkward teenager going on a summer vacation with his mom, her terrible boyfriend and his obnoxious daughter in the sea side town where his life turns around when he meets a man working in a water park. This is a feel good coming of age comedy about self discovery and gaining confidence about a boy who lives a difficult family life until he finds a comfort place of fun and happiness. The movie has a great cast of Steve Carrell, Toni Collette, Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney, Maya Rudolph and Rob Corddry. I like the movie not just because of its heartwarming message, but also it’s a lot of fun and it’s funny too. I highly recommend that you should check it out for its summer themes and performances. This is one of those movies where it makes you want to go to a water park.
Into The Blue. Its a perfect summer film and total guilty pleasure - Okay sure its a traditional hollywood action film with seriously attractive stars in it but i honestly loved it, its a great sunken treasure film with a pirate love story and some of the most spectacular underwater footage ive ever seen. popcorn fun and sometimes thats all you need.
Nice, here are some good (maybe lesser known) "Summer Madness" movies: _Traffic_ (2000) , _Short Cuts_ (1993) , _Deep Cover_ (1992) , _Bad Lieutenant_ (1992) , _To Live and Die in LA_ (1985) , _Paris, Texas_ (1984) , _Rumble Fish_ (1983) , _Days of Heaven_ (1978) , _The Man Who Would be King_ (1975) , _The Long Goodbye_ (1973) , _The Go Between_ (1971) , _The Swimmer_ (1968) , _A Face in the Crowd_ (1957)
Maggie, two things: (1) This video reminded me that I need to watch The Virgin Suicides this summer. Thx (2) Years after I’ve seen it, Do the Right Thing has continued to feel hard-hitting in its portrayal of racial conflict with that shocking final act, and I think it’s one of the most iconic films that features the subject, which I assume you’d agree with. That said, what are some films about racial conflict that you think are the best? Any in particular that came out in the 20th century?
Jaws is 100% a summer movie. Watched it growing up - in summer, at my grandparents, maybe '84-85, in Clearwater Florida. Kept me close to shore that's fsho.
For me, probably Nashville. The film's epic scope, breezy Altman touch, and patriotic but non jigostic feel really gives off a fourth of July feel, that is just perfect to watch during the summer.
I don't like summer personally (I prefer Fall) but I do like "No Country For Old Man" and "Das Boot" (the 3.5 hour version) "Apocalypse Now" as well just to name a few.
Interesting that you like the summer 🤔 I had you pegged as a winter time, cozy up to the fireplace, and watch movies during a rain / snowstorm kinda chick. Shows how much I know about women… I like the fall 🍂🍁
i got a underrated, almost unheard of summer feel movie is 1985's "Smooth Talk" starring a young laura dern where as a young teen girl she loses her innocence to this aggressive, older creepy drifter who comes in town during her summer. it's a great coming of age thriller/drama Virgin Suicides is another good one. and let's not forget the most sweatiest, hot sultry vibe cult Noir Thriller "Body Heat" from 1981
The Railway Children (1970) For me, the perfect family holiday-movie. While definitely not particularly taxing on the brain, it's beautifully filmed, richly period-evocative charm never fails to warm the heart of an admittedly dyed in the wool cynic such as myself.
You know it’s going to be a great video when the thumbnail has the two handed claw grip. Let’s you know that you are gonna want to hold on tight for this one.
Dazed and Confused. Bonus: The Beach Boys are some of the best summer music. Since i brought it up, The Beach Boys are kind of the good version of Grease.
I'd like to suggest to everyone a great movie that somehow gets lost: The Sure Thing. An early Rob Reiner film, and one of Cusak's early roles. It's a romantic comedy road movie -- with a great Tim Robbins performance btw . It's a college film that takes place over Xmas break -- trust me, it still feels like a summer film despite the snow at the beginning. The blu ray is out of print and thus hard to find. It isn't streaming either. But if you want a romantic, smart, funny movie that is pure 1980's and yet -- not superficially dated in that era -- it''l become one of your favorites.
Summer Movies. Life Aquatic. Island fever 1,2,3 James bond: Spectre Avatar. American Honey. Florida Project. Garden of words( anime) Dogtooth. Death on the Nile.
