Definitely. I've heard plenty of arguments for how the Genesis technically had better sound hardware, but music on the SNES has always just sounded so much better to me. I don't know if it's just a matter of the talents behind the music but the... sound fonts? Virtual instruments? I'm not well versed enough in anything audio-related to know the actual term, but something about the synth sounds always hits better for me.

Also from F-Zero SNES, Death Wind (heavy breathing and build up simulates the wind making the track harder as it gets faster) and Silence, an upbeat futuristic track with fantastic chorus!

Mythril Pebble I kept thinking about other full ost's that could top or match chrono triggers'... And damn! It's hard to think of any... Maybe FF6... But I like CT a bit better... Or Maybe romancing saga being king of battle themes... But as far as overall OST... CT just kicks everyone's ass...

I used to think so too. Was thinking between FF8 and CT but after i played Ar Tonelico series, nothing can match that. It's world is very unique and music plays big part in how that world works. They even created multiple working languages for the sung part of those songs. Just amazing.

14:50...I remember getting this game on Christmas eve, snowing coming down outside. Start the game and after 10-15 minutes in, the real Intro starts with the three mechs marching through a storm with this amazing song on. It's dumb but I will remember that moment till I die, it was perfect and man was my 12 year old self excited.

Secret of Mana was heartbreaking as a kid when you find out that the dragon you find and basically raised throughout the game turns out to be the Mana Beast and you have to kill him. I was in disbelief as a kid, I never forgot it. Great game.

Jon Warren I first played this game when it was basically a garage sale find. Everything felt fresh and monumental in importance in the story goals. Guess I didn't want to let the world think I would give up on them in my role as god protector.

TightManlyPants yeah, out of every system its still my favorite. But im betting pre-teen early teen when you had one right? Just a theory i have that most people get to do the most gaming at that age. When i was a kid, you came home from schoo did your homework, and played with friends in the neighborhood, but when i got to middle school, all my friends lived on the other side of town, so i didnt see them until weekends really. So i gamed a lot and i loved my snes. Snow days during those years....would be a mix of shoveling my driveway and a monster gaming session....i loved my gamecube, i love the NES (backwhen you didnt play video games you played "nintendo") but snes will always be the favorite.

That coffee break song from Earthbound is so underrated. There's so much amazing music on that soundtrack and it's easy to gloss over the coffee break, but I'm glad you didn't. This music/scene is a nice little relaxing break you and your character need mid-adventure.

Dark world is the place, but the theme represents the excitement of adventure and discovery there. That theme actually makes me feel excited just hearing it. That first time you got to the dark world and learned the adventure had just started and there was so much more to explore was really great.

Micah Buzan The Tune your referring to was recycled from Mario RPG..they made it run slower...But it still the same Tune..it was used Minish Cap..the same team worked on the music for both..even though Capcom made minish Cap.

it's proably just me, most likely because I grew up with these games I dont know.But older RPGS and classic games sound track has a feeling that beats alot of of the soundtracks to modern games..maybe Im just crazy..☺..especially the final fantsy 3 theme that opeing blew my mind when I was younger

Michael Smythe its likely a ton of nostalgia... But if it isn't just that, then I'd also point out that since newer games tend to have voice acting maybe a lot of composers create newer tracks with a "background" approach... Rather than a truly melodic and front-stage more memorable approach. That and maybe the whole "limitations in hardware spurred creativity" thing was at work too...but then again its prolly mostly nostalgia... Maybe...

The boss music from Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite song from the SNES era. But from Final Fantasy to Mega Man X to Donkey Kong Country to Castlevania there’s just so many amazing soundtracks that you really can’t go wrong with a lot of SNES music.

I would've included a Top Gear track! That first one with the arpeggio intro, for sure! and Idk the names of them, but I would've gone with different tracks from Star Fox and Super Metroid.. great list overall though. Super Castlevania 4 is probably my least favorite game on the list but probably my most favorite track too. memories =)

Love this compilation, thank you so much for sharing! I listen to it once in a while when I'm at work and need some easy listening. I work as a quality engineer in the automotive industry and sometimes I need to isolate myself from surrounding distractions. This compilation really is one of my favourites when it comes to focus myself on complicated tasks.

This console had the best games on Earth once upon a time, its strange ever since they focus more on graphics they lose gameplay/storyline and everything else goes down the drain, its only here n there awesome ones pop up like Nier Automata, and many other top top ones but majority of next gen stuff at ps4 and xbox one and above level are few really really good ones if you know what I mean.

Crackin list and totally understand its a personal list so fair play. I was a real fan of the Secret of Mana music so great choice with. 'Into The Thick Of It' and brilliant music in Castlevania 4. I would have loved to have seen the 'House Interior' music from Pugsleys Scavenger Hunt..that always mesmerises me. I do love a bit of Mario World, but your choices are more dramatic, so it possibly wouldn't have fitted in..could have had some F-Zero track. Cheers bud.

I totally agree with the first level of Castlevania, as well as the first level of ActRaser. Those two have always been on the top of my SNES sound tract (favorite) list.

You all have the same music on the channels (RU-vid) because the game in one and same game. You yourselves are not sick of the monotony? If the game is popular does not mean that there is no music to be better than in this game. (Sorry my English)

Crazy how at the time limitations would make the most memorable tracks of this time. That being said you don't need to rely on tech to push your talent forward. I am sure it was hard to even translate what was first composed into these limited bytes.

Terra's Theme has been my ringtone for years. I hear the beginning of it often, but it was good to listen to the whole thing again. Great compilation thank you!

Nice! My list of top snes songs would include Ryu’s theme (SF2), Super Ghouls n Ghosts 2nd level, Super Castlevania’s 2nd level… I don’t know, that would be a start.

Of course this starts out with "Beware the Forest's Mushrooms"/"Geno's Woods"... XD One of biggest ear worms in the Nintendo arsenal. Man, now I want to chill out playing some videogames with SNES drunk in an air conditioned garage with an open cooler of Jarritos or something. You near Atlanta, brother?

Corridors of time.....god damn it.....When you first got to 12,000 BC and you and in the lower / snow world. Theres no music. Just wind. it SOUNDS cold. THen you are transported to Zeal , and that music hits......its like a drug

Honestly thanks snes drunk this sounds better than any upload on YT You goin straight from the PCM files? Im thinking about doing q conversion from PCM to WAV then the signal being sent straight to a nakamichi 700 PS: if you havent heard the name nakamichi, check em out

Thoughts: - most of these are good. I hated Mega Man 7's music wholesale, though. - Not a huge fan of Earthbound's music, but the particular track here is decent. - FFVI had a killer soundtrack. I was actually more partial to the Floating Continent theme. - Best track from ActRaiser IMO is "All Around The World," the theme to Northwall's second stage. It sounded to me almost like something out of Star Wars. Bloodpool's theme (which was also used in Kasandora's first stage) was pretty killer, too. - Where do I even begin with Terranigma? That game's music is incredible. - I'm more partial to "Mother" (stage 3) and whatever Stage 4's music is called with Axelay. Still, glad you mentioned it. - I found Secret of Mana hit-or-miss with music; this particular theme was neither great nor horrible IMO. - Good choice from Ogre Battle.

Nice list! Of all the Lufia II songs, you chose the 2nd best battle theme??? Still a great song, but I prefer Battle 2, the Last Duel, For the Savior, and the Earth. Good to see Terranigma getting some love too, the 2 overworld themes are also incredible. Oh and Square games have good music too, I guess :p

man the music in castlevania slaps. I got chills when they played "Bloody Tears" in the netflix show. Donkey Kong Country also had a ton of hits. Missin g Kirby Gourmet Race and Mute City from F-zero tho

Im pretty sure dkc 1 and 2 were the absolute apex of not only snes music...but capability, structure,and almost any other aspect you can think of...meaning i dont think they could have "progressed" much farther in almost every aspect of 16 bit synth....i miss those games....i miss being excited ...

A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy IV-VI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Mother 2, Super Mario RPG, Kirby Superstar, and every other game defines the SNES

'Into the Thick of it' & 'Simon's Theme' in my opnion are up there with the best 16 bit game music ever.. 'This Desert Rocks' by Chris Husselbeck is upthere too (Atrari ST though not SNES).

I legit found this while looking for snes nostalgia to listen to while at work... Tell me, do you also play certain games annually or want to play something specific depending on the weather? For me thunderstorms = LoZ Link to the past or Hot summer days are good for some Earthbound. Either way you have good taste in VGM duder =).

Good Earthbound song, but my favorite is Paula's Theme. I even succumbed to making it my ringtone for a while. I think almost every song from Final Fantasy III/VI technically qualifies for GOAT.
