Some parrots seem to mimic while others seem to have an actual grasp of the words' meanings. Gizmo is definitely singing to himself for fun, and actually has conversations that make sense! Amazing.
Scientific research into animal intelligence places certain birds "which includes crows and ravens too" as being at least as intelligent as a 6 year old human. They can be VERY smart and self aware. We know so little about the real depth of ability in animals. Bees will play with balls for fun, WILD MICE love wheels, and anyone who has watched Discovery has seen our captive ape and elephant observations.
@@WhatWillYouFind yeah I actually thought it was literally just mimicing words until basically now. I've even commented on another video about that I smell bs but no, this parrot know at least a few words and the actual meaning of them and how to use them. Very very awesome
@@WhatWillYouFind Maybe not as smart as a 6-year-old human. 2-year-old humans can talk completely fluent, describing their emotions and surroundings with incredible detail and cohesion. Even the smartest of animals can't come close to it. People give too much credit for these animals for doing the most simple things like repeating sentences or stealing food.
@@---1001--- inteligence is not linear like that, though. Just because they can't speak as well as 6 year olds does not mean they aren't as smart as 6 year olds. Their brain functions in a completely different way than human brain, so its hard to compare it like that.
There may be a bit of creative editing to make it seem more natural of conversation, then this bird actually is. But even still its pretty impressive with what I have seen here.
It's so amazing to hear, as my grandparents had a grey and he sometimes sounded like grandma, or grandpa and just like any grey at the same time, just like Gizmo. The only difference being that Robert spoke German instead of English. 😆 Even the stupid whistling sounds were so much the same. Whistling melodies that we didn't teach him...but I doubt that they're genuine parrot sounds. The wild ones surely don't sit around in the Kongo and whistle somewhat like humans. So the pet greys sometimes just make stuff up that sounds like us, whistling and babbling. 😂
I'm thinking his voice probably came from his last owners. They had him for 16 years so his primary voice would be from who he heard the most. I think he is starting to copy Emily as he has attempted a higher toned British accent a couple of times.
Gizmo is so great at water sounds, chirps, blips, blops, and drops sounds, that he could probably learn the chorus of Pharrell & Snoop dogg’s “Drop it like its Hot” by just listening to it on TV a few times! 😂
He is so amazing, he literally tries conversation as human. It made me smile and totally stunned that he is able do it. He literally puts words well together.
Amazing. He's not just saying random words or copying what he hears. He's having a meaningful conversation. And, what's really nice to see is that Giz and the lady achieve this because they have some kind of empathy and connection with each other.
@@frank234561 some birds mimic. other birds are highly intelligent they can be taught how to conversate and understand what is going on just like children do.
He is a great African gray parrot...I had an African gray named Buddy and he died on my lap. I'm a retired veteran and I miss him so much. He was my companion. I'm glad I saw yours he reminded me of my Buddy. God bless him
This bird brings a 😊 to my face. One of my girlfriend's patients has a parrot like Gizmo. Whenever she goes to the house and takes the patient outside for physical therapy, the bird shouts 'NOOOO!! NOOTT THHHATT!!!! OH GOD ANYTHING BUT THHHATTT!!! HELLLPP!!!" at the top of his lungs. She said you can hear him all the way down the block. The woman had to let all of the neighbors know that she has a sassy parrot so they don't think someone is being tortured and call the police lol.
He's so sweet and gentle. At the end when he holds up his claw it's almost like he's talking to someone on a phone: "You're OK...aw, it's OK...(kisses) Goodbye, see ya later!"
Maybe he's imitating his owner when she's on the phone, that could be his way to "speak from far", he could also say certain words only when he's imitating hrr this way So cutie bird ❤
I had a Amazon for over 20 yrs...he knew what and when to use his words. The older he got the more sentences he said.❤ Sure do miss him! He recently passed away😢
Oh, so sorry. You must really miss him. You can see why all the old pirates pictures have one of these parrots on the pirate's shoulder. They would have been so much company for a man at sea.
Thank you so much for sharing his amazing personality... My father used to talk about the greys he had in Africa before he met mum and moved back to the UK, I totally get his obsession now. Much as I'd love to have one myself, it's better that I enjoy Giz vicariously while I'm living in a unit/apartment block, but please give him a hello from Australia 👋
Awww Crystal thank you so much for your kindness and support you always give. Bird has been playing with the toys you sent out. We are training her on some hoops :) We gave him a kiss from you to him!
@@gizmothegreybird Thank you! Congrats again on the milestone, I'm glad the toys are being enjoyed, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the first video of Giz the sk8r-bird (or Burrd - love the way Kyle says her name). Plus it's a lot easier - and safer - for him than driving a truck 😜
The African Grey are the only parrots that can mimic different people's voices... Mine is 36 years old, it was My wife's, She died in 2003 from Cancer. It took years before it would let Me handle it & still won't Step Up on my hand. They are Very intelligent & require attention. Mine does Not like to be taken off it's cage. It is also shy, doesn't like Some men.. ? The woman I got mine from hand fed them from the time they hatched, But She died just after this one hatched & Her husband had to take over the feeding, etc. I'm sure it was hard for the grieving husband to take over all the care it takes to feed & the attention they need ! Parrots can live up to 100 yrs. They require a lot of attention, they WILL chew anything they can get their beak on, such as electrical cords, your furniture, etc. They are like a 2 yr. Old, getting into everything, They can also Learn amazing things ! Such as, people's names, colors, what items are made of... Plastic, metal, cotton, rocks, they can make up names for things... Mine eats VegAll sometimes & has cooked, soft corn in it, the 3D brand seeds I feed it has hard corn in it... The parrot started calling the hard corn .... "Rock Corn" !! Because it is hard as a rock..! It STILL calls Me in My Wife's Voice after 20 years..! They is no telling what they may start saying, My Wife dropped a glass once and said, "SHIT".... To this day, That's it's favorite Word... It even sings it,... "Shit, shit, shit-shit-shit-SHeeIT ^"...! AND, Barney Fife's whistle... LOUD...! We didn't know if it was a Male or Female until it was about 7 years old when it laid it's first eggs ..! ** Buying one is a life long commitment, if They don't get enough attention They may start Feather Plucking, Self Mutilation , which is Sad, & probably won't stop.. They make good pets, BUT BE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THEY REQUIRE A LOT OF ATTENTION & THEIR LONG LIFE SPAN. I suggest a Cocktail first, they are good talkers, they will fly around the house to find you, they can live into their teens...!
I put YT on auto play. I'm listening to birds talking as background. This video comes up. I immediately recognized it's Giz. Am I crazy? Obsessed? In love with this guy? I watch him so much that I can tell him apart from other parrots. He speaks so clear & contextually that it's easy I guess.
From 1:00 to 1:23 is probably my forever favorite Giz-mo (Gizmo moment...no?). You can't watch that and tell me that the soul in this bird's body isn't an old one.
I love this birb so, so much!! He has the most uplifting, healing presence. Thank you Gibby for being the amazing birb that you are 💜 And thank you to Giz's parents for sharing him with all of us!
Okay! This one compilation of this adorable birb talking had sealed the deal for me about getting a parrot as a pet. He seems like such a good therapist weirdly enough.
No no no. Parrots are a MASSIVE responsibility, much more than a dog. If you don't work from home, don't get one. If you don't have hours per day to spend with him, don't get one. Parrots are extremely social and prone to self harm. Please don't.
Giz being like "if the first two alarms aren't loud enough to scare the intruders away, then I'll do the hekkin' bad noise!" Is probably smarter than any home security system. 🤣
We have great talking Congalese African Grey, but our Pepper (30 years old)has maybe only half the vocabulary of Gizmo. He is really quite amazing. So impressed with this magnificent bird. 👏
Everyone who wants to get a pet parrot should play this on repeat 24/7 for a week on full volume.... Lovepops and happy lasers are cute, but not 4 in the morning for an hour.... That's what you sign up for, for the next 50-70 years
they are extremely smart and know when and how to annoy you.when i open up for my grey he makes noises and talk, as soon as i fall asleep again he becomes quiet
If I had my back turned to Gizmo when he whistles I would think he totally was human! 😂 Thank you for ALL of the great videos. I can watch him for hours lol
That "beep!" made me laugh so much. I used to be a vet tech and my coworker rescued parrots. This African Grey lost his owner due to illness and she was trying to help him socialize so he could find a new home. For some reason our fire alarm at the clinic kept "malfunctioning" and making the low battery beep. After changing the battery twice we called out the fire department and they said nothing was wrong after testing it. The African Grey's perch was under the fire alarm. He learned to perfectly mimic it because the staff would come in the room to check on the fire alarm and inevitably he got attention. He is in a good forever home now. Hopefully not mimicking fire alarms.
Its so amazing how many lines he has. He even seem to understand the context of curse words, as he seems to use them alot when agitated. Also, that high pitched beep he does has to hurt your ears!
OH, my word! That was truly amazing! I've heard talking birds before, but this little guy was just amazing! But I have to give credit where credit is due. This lady who trained Giz spent so much time and work with him, Not to mention love, she equally deserves praise!
Wow he is so amazing and brilliant. You are so lucky to have Gizmo. He is incredible. I love his personality. He certainly loves you Emily. He doesn't care much for Kyle. Love you guys esp Gizzy much love from Florida😘😘
