I'm confused, caulk needs to be sealed with paint or else it yellows and cracks after a couple months...are you saying you paint your trim and walls, then put the caulk on? Edit: I have been a painter/drywaller for 4 years and can confirm the method shown in the video above is the best, and I do this almost every single job for random things. I also do this trick for countertops against a wall, or tile in a bathroom against the ceiling.

🤦🏻 if you need tape to get a straight line, you're doing the wrong type of work. weekend warriors, absolutely! Paid painters? GTFO! I'd sack your ass immediately if I saw you taping internally, except on textured surfaces.

Again ... I'm the one that actually goes the extra mile to issue perfection. One of the reasons you belive in what you do stems from either lazy or cheap people that make up a pride issue to cover the facts. I've been a business owner for 21 yrs and no one will ever sack me. The tape has nothing to do with my skills , I can lay down a very clean line. And yes if I didn't use tape I would save money on materials and labor. But I'd rather have folks be able to distinguish my work from ordinary painters or helpers. Not only do I provide a great service to my clients I'm a true American which needs and wants to help folks in America and I'm doing that by spending the money on my employees and the folks who sale the materials. Its a win win situation for everyone. I don't know you but you sound like a lefty.

@@lunch2102 Any painter can color within the lines. Its not difficult and its not the issue. I just know when I walk into a home that has a mechanical line then I know that the someone cared. Its not always about you its really about the client. Anyone can get in the home and go 100 miles an hour. But that just speaks loudly on who really cares about who.

Yes, white works with colors as well because the caulk is too thick to bleed under the tape. Stay away from clear caulk, it's usually super thin and a mess to work with. Also use a "dryer" caulk like top gun flex or sherwin 1050qd. It's much cleaner to tool

Paint don't adhere very good on caulk.

The water-based caulk will bond with the water and dry in the curing process

I do this for a living also...don't put down caulk on a wet surface.

No they don’t. He’s only doing the frame here not the wall. Wiping off the caulking will get caulk on the wall and you’ll no longer have a perfect wall to frame join. Very easy to cut the line perfectly with a paintbrush tho

This isn't the best video ever.. but your "no tape" painter friends don't get the same results.

Im.a certified ninja with. Paint brush and while I have laser 👁‍🗨 and straight edge fingers occasionally tape is best for high vis pieces, drastic color changes on trim that's uo bear your eye. Etc. It's ok to use tape like it's ok to cry. Once in a while and only for good reasons.

Please tell me how you caulk a perfectly dead straight line onto a finished wall that you’re not painting, whilst applying enough caulk to properly seal the join, without tape

The Yellow is a delicate surface tape. It is less likely to peel the paint underneath if it's fresh.

It's called the Tadpole tape dispenser. I got it at ACE Hardware I believe

The caulk is just to “seal” the tape youre not supposed to put much. Plus if you let it dry it will leave a clean line.

Yellow frogtape is for delicate surfaces and is less likely to peel the paint off the wall.
