For some reason, even though it has the beads inside, I feel like YoZuri hydro minnows just cast better... I want to like the SP minnow as much as the next guy, but for me the YoZuri minnows are just easier to cast and they launch like bullets

I kept trying this but have not had success launching my sp minnow nicely, it always flops and spins during the cast and most times tangles with my line. Any tips ish?

maybe go with a limper line? i use j braid or super 8 slick, side arm casting helps keep the sp minnow on target too.

Do you tie you leader line straight to your main line or do you use a swivel in between them? I’ve used an sp minnow a few times and have had trouble with line twist, trying to figure out how others rig them up.

from everything I've been told, for NorCal waters you only need 3: Laser Sardine for sunny days, Bone for overcast days, and Blurple for night. I haven't hooked a keeper yet on one, hope to next season and hopefully on film!

So do you cast and retrieve or leave it out there and let surf do the work?

+Shane Howard definitely cast and retrieve. at the right retrieve speed, they wobble and dive, or you can pop them a bit to imitate a fleeing baitfish. If you dead stick them, the side wash will probably tangle your line into the trebles.

Is this a prank to get noobs to get their leader tangled in the hooks? All you have to do is cast it. The centrifugal force loads the lead to the rear.

not all the time, at least with early sp minnows and flash minnows. sometimes the beads don't shift to the rear and you have to wiggle the lure to have them slide back in the track👍🏼

i believe both have the same ball weight system, so it applies to both. the bullet version is different and casts differently too.

floating. 90% of the guys that catch stripers on sp minnows out here say floating. i have the floating in a few different colors. if the water is flat though like the santa cruz area, i only throw one think: luckcraft flashminnow 110SP.

NOT on a penn battle II, those, like most penn reels of its generation (pursuit II, fierce II, conflict etc), have horrible line lay, filling the spool to capacity is a one way ticket to wind knot town. they fixed this in the clash, slammer 3 and spinfisher vi and now they handle braid just like a shimano or a daiwa reel would.
