This show was incredible. definitely brought awareness for parents and kids. As a kid growing up it prevented me from just randomly chatting strangers online. The only reason this show was discontinued was the last episode that never aired the predator was a District Attorney (an elected official) and he K*lled himself when Chris and the crew confronted him.

So the 'decoys' are young adult actors usually theatre students - Not actually underage (it seemed like Vik was getting concerned about this at one point) The reason every single one of these targets are immediately arrested is because long before a sting is setup, law enforcement has already built a case on these guys which is usually through the chatlogs. They make sure to find enough incriminating evidence through that alone (and usually they're always creepy enough to go along with the bait and unknowingly provide constant detail/evidence by continuing to talk to the decoy account). Showing up to the house cements the case by showing malicious intent. Finally, the reason they get tackled every single time they walk out of the home is because basically every state has some sort of concealed firearm law, and the police have to consider that and treat them as potentially armed and dangerous.

I’m not American but I’m assuming why they’re allowed to use the footage is because criminal law is public law, meaning that since these issues in some way effect society people are able to get any information possible on case. Basically if you’re in the criminal courts you lose your right for privacy. If it was a civil case it’d be a completely different story

I'm someone who can't handle cringe interactions but I love clips from this show because it's nonces that I can laugh at instead of someone to feel empathetic towards

The scary thing is realising that it probably wasn't their first time. They've probably been "successful" with real children before. Like that guy who took off his clothes right as he walked inside, he looked way too natural doing it, like he's used to it. And how many more keep doing it and never get caught.

The show worked with local law enforcement, leading to the arrest of the predators. When being arrested, there is no law requiring one's privacy to be protected from any publicly released video, so, To Catch A Predator was not required to blur the faces of those who did not sign a release form.

During our psych rotation we went to a well known state psych hospital and during that first time I and another classmate was talking to one of the people there. Turned out the reason he was so interested in speaking to us so intently and made us uncomfortable when we finally were able to move away is because at the time we were 20 but looked closer to freshmen (14) and he was a predator that saw our faces and his mind did the rest. I'm glad he's off the streets and I don't know if he went there himself or was forced to. Gut instincts don't lie. Our teacher didn't tell us beforehand as they didn't want us to go in with any bias and as a class we were briefly prepped with how to "stand correctly" for potential defense situations. Sadly predators checking me out or trying to approach me isn't something new and has been happening since middle school. The next rotation was sad cases of abandonment, cruelty and financial ab*se towards the patients from their families.

Y'all should watch more of these videos. They can be hilarious but be a bit disgusting and sad. There was one episode that aired that a grown man brought his own child to come meet a young child. The reason why this show stopped was that they caught an important figure trying to see a young child (A Senator or District official or something like that). And the Dude killed himself because he didn't want to get caught trying to have sex with a young child. The dude's sister was very upset and sued or told TCAP that what they were doing was bad and they were amateur actors to try to get pedophiles. After that the other pedophiles that were caught and were charged before had their charges removed and believed were free from prison. It just saddens me sometimes that people like the roam our streets every day and ruining other children's innocent lives.

What's crazy is that these sting operations would last only for 3 days usually, and the most people they caught during 1 operation was 38 people. Doing the math tells me that during that sting, there would be an average of 1.8 hours between arrivals, that is crazy. Another crazy fact is that in this shows early life when it was just starting out, they weren't officially joined with the police, so the people got to walk away free and I'm pretty sure 1 guy actually showed up twice during that time, then a 3rd time after they joined with the police.

In any crime tv show in the U.S, it’s listed as a Documentary Reailty series. So it documents how they caught them and covers what was done. Its not like a random production company, “To Catch a Predator” was on NBC, which is a big major network. On top of that the charges they can get hit with are a lil more intense than people think they go from “endangerment of a minor” all the way to “attempted sexual assault of a minor” and they are also Cyber Laws against alot of it that they originally use like how Chris Hanson reads the message directly to the predators so they admit guilt.

I went to school and was friends with a guy who got caught in this way through a Facebook finding predators group. Didn’t speak for years and he randomly messaged asking how I am and asking about my daughter and how she was when he saw I had one saying how cute she is, how he’d love a catch up and to meet her.. she was 2. He got found out trying to meet a 7 and 9 year old. He was abusing and sending videos of his mentally disabled 11 year old sister to them. Makes me sick to my stomach these people blend into society so well and you’d have no idea. Honestly I wouldn’t be able to control myself if I was in their situation, they’re so calm and I’m glad for they do this and get so many people locked up.

3:28 - EXPLANATION They are usually charge with intent to illicite sexual favors or relationships from minors. They also can get charged with attempt to do such and such. (Attempt = thought + preparation (aka organising a meet with a minor) + start of execution of the felony/crime/etc (got in the car and made their way to meet with the minor)
