We're looking for a French press travel mug that makes a tasty cup of coffee without making a mess. It's got to make a good travel mug too, so we're looking for something that keeps the coffee hot and tasty that you can sip without taking your eyes off the road. After a long day of drinking coffee (it's a hard life, but somebody's gotta do it), we found some surprising answers. For one, far too many of these presses were really bad for travel - I mean, you had one job... For another, a lot of these exaggerated the amount of coffee they could hold, and offered vague instructions on coffee measurements.
Watch and see which ones you can count on for the office or campground, and which ones fall short.

I was given the Stanley as a gift several years ago, and have found it very usefull as a press and just travel cup.

With the bobble presse, you need to boil the rubber lid for an hour when you first buy it to get the rubber smell out. After that it does not affect your coffee flavor at all. The flap over the sip hole just needs to turn to the side out of the way when you drink. I have no problem with it.

I just bought a CafeBueno, a bit like the Kohipress, looks almost the same, is made of Stainless steel as well and uses the same type of press thing. It works really well, yes, it caught me out last time I emptied it out, but overall I am very happy with it, the coffee tastes great and does not spoil.

This is an excellent comparison, thank you. I would would be interested how easy it was to pour coffee out of these into a cup. I am looking for a solution for an office and would like to avoid any spill or coffee running down the side of the bottle if I decided to use a cup instead of drinking directly out of the bottle.

After about a year of daily use, I’m still in love with the Espro. But then again, I don’t drink straight out of it.

Great review thanks for sharing really been entertaining the idea of picking up one of these travel presses. I personally have been leaning towards the Stanley probably just because of their track record of their products. Thanks again really good review.

Nice review …..but the bobble Presse is the best ….I use that everyday and has amazing heat retention, office friendly in not being bulky, stainless steel in and out and not a trace of cancer causing plastic. The lid does a good job and I use it everyday. What’s not to love and it’s 14 oz and it’s super affordable at $25. Stanley is good but wonder why the insert is plastic. I got one but returned after I saw minute threads of green plastic shredded from the internal plastic press. That’s a shame as the double walled outer piece was built very well.

Excellent review. I like Bobble too but worry about lid and also worry about dropping it when traveling. I didn't know Stanley's use plastic insert. They claimed bpa free, maybe just the bottle not insert. I like Stanley's but wish it was not as tall as it is. PS: these guy kept bringing up the bottle capacity; use your judgment and don't over top it like they did.

Aeropress - you cannot let the coffee sit in there. Stir it up and press. I use very fine ground coffee I have to really lean into it until I hit the bottom. The Stanley makes shyte coffee but I use it as an isolated mug. The Aeropress makes the best coffee but is kind of useless as a travel mug. I make my coffee in my Aeropress and put it in Stanley.

The funny thing about the Aeropress is it makes great coffee as long as you don't follow the manufacture's instructions for brewing.

My last French press broke and I had forgotten that I had bought both a small Aeropress and a large one quite a few months back. I tried them out and the coffee I made with them is delicious!! I even used tap water which I don’t usually use.

Saw the test on Stanley's. Brewed Coffee was poured out into cups. Didn't show drink directly from it and didn't show if lid leaks or not. Came here for that. I'm cringing imagine putting creamer directly into the Stanley's and drinking it but at the same time don't I want to take the filter out and then afraid of losing it eventually.

Funny a coffee maker test from the country where they drink the worst coffee in the world. For my backpacking kind of holidays I have the Esbit expresso maker.

Problem with the Kohipress is it traps too much water at the bottom, the coffee lost adds up. Bodum Travel Press, the plunger is too short. Also it traps water that doesn't come out. Measure plain water, press the water, water only, no coffee, measure out what you get back out? It's like a vacuum forms at the bottom. The Stanley your fingers can get very close to hot water, why didn't they just add a but more head room at the top? The Stanley is probably the best compromise.
