I think he wanted to pull out like a normal wallride. The problem is he was hitting it with so much impact that he'd need a second to finish absorbing that with his legs before he can start to pull away. And the wall is not very tall, and he's coming down pretty fast, so he doesn't quite have the time he needs to pull, before he just runs into the deck below.
