Usually the reason your chatterbait gets hung up in lay downs a lot is because you use to narrow of a trailer. The narrow trailer allows the chatterbait to roll over on when it comes across a limb or log which will put the point of your hook in harms way. Try to use a wider beaver style trailer to eliminate some of the snags.
Dude, WE JUST BECAME BEST FRIENDS!!! I've mentioned all the same things this year....... great video!!! LOVE THIS!!! Cheers and thank you for everything.
Been loving going back and watching these best and worst of (year) videos. Been giving me some good lure ideas to try out as a newer fisher. Watched the 2020, and now the 2021 vid, excited for the 2022 video in these coming months! Thanks allot for the content and all the advice Debo! I want to try out the Z-Man CrossEyez Chatterbait, the misslebait and the reaction innovations stuff!
I tried the 48's and the Pocket Rockets from watching your videos and have to say I had good luck with them this year so that was something I may not of found without your videos. One other bait but not from this video but one of your older ones is the Berkley Warpig lipless crank. Would of never tried them without seeing them in one of your videos. Thanks for the tips and showing off various baits as it has really helped me out. Keep up the killer vids.
Weedless neko from vmc was the hook I used for my biggest largemouth of the year on season opening day, couldn't be happier with em tossing around wood and avoiding snags. Great video man!
I finally got sick of losing 13.00 to 18.00 lures so I did a 'spirmint. I bit off a half inch of worm and threaded it over the hook of the chatterbait. I mean, I hated I had the baits in my box and didn't throw them because i might lose them. the little piece of worm protected the hook barb but when the bass hit it, I didn't lose any more with that than I would normally. Now that's not gonna help if you snag your bait in the hook gap, but I've yet to lose a lure by having the hook bury itself into wood. I've started doing that with all my bare hook lures, to include spinnerbaits and other single exposed hook lures. The only ones I don't do that is on my jigs. For what it's worth.
Another great video! Thanks! The most fish and most fun was definitely on the wacky rig, 5 inch, KVD Green Pumpkin with the wonderful coffee scent! Another great day on a white and chartreuse original chatterbait. Only been seriously bass fishing since September so still on a steep learning curve with pretty much every lure and technique.
My favorite this year were Owner underspins with the Skinny Dipper, had a load of fun with them. Also caught several spinnerbait fish for the first time (Nichols and War Eagle). Can't say I had any 'bad' lures this year, it was all on the fisherman! Really like these types of videos, gives me ideas for my TW cart 🎣
I absolutely love the jackhammer. I've caught a bunch of bass on them in grassy lakes. I only throw them when I know there aren't alot of snagged areas and I can see where I'm casting it.
I like the little bounce to the weighted wacky when it lands. Looks intriguing. I’m thinking of doing more with underspins this year. Seemed to get some decent action where I worked them at the end of the season. Thanks as always for the wealth of info and experiences you share!! 👊🏻
Going to use more soft baits this year. Tubes, Wacky Worms and a Curly tail worm on a Ned rig. Then a Swim jig with a Craw trailer. Then a Carolina rigged 6 inch Green Pumpkin 🦎. Shawn.
Now you're cookin'. Although a regular Zoom Finesse worm works absolutely great, this year try a Zoom Magnum Finesse worm (keep it simple- black, grn pmpkn, junebug) on a Charlie Brewer Spider Slider Pro head (³/¹⁶). Try a Zoom Z Craw (grn pmpkn flash) on a GOLDEN SHINER colored swimjig (or any ³/⁸oz jig with alot of GOLD or SILVER glitter). Most importantly, IF YOU CAN FIND THEM, try going to a FIVE INCH grn pmpkn Zoom lizard on your C-rig! That 1" will get you a TON more bites. And, instead of tipping it chartreuse, tip it ORANGE this year. Just a few obsevations from an old bass guide from Alabama.
Great vid. I wrestled in more Bass in 2021 than any year ever by watching Debo vids. My home lake in PA must be similar to those Iowa lakes. Lure recommendations by season has been especially helpful. Interested in your membership stuff.
Great list! Crosseyez are definitely a must have for a bank angler. I wish I could find some Little Dippers in sungill. Hands down my favorite paddle tail. I gained a ton of confidence in the Scum Launch frog. Super long casts and a great hook up ratio. The jerkbait is at the top of my baits to throw list for 2022.
I am trying shaky heads, wacky rigs, jigs w/trailers and jerkbaits this year. I have never learned to fish soft plastics and hope this is my year. I did really well with a Sexy Dawg Jr last year during warmer months. Spinnerbaits were the ticket the year before.
Well I’m smallie fishing but the Nikko Hellgrammite on a ewg Ned head really caught them this year. A surprise lure that caught my PB was the Live Target Baitball spinner rig. Besides that, mostly paddle tail swimbaits did most of the work.
Don’t think it came out last year, it’s probably been out a few years, but I absolutely slayed them on the 6th Sense Quake 70 lipless. Specifically, the Bluegill fire color in ponds. I never used much 6th Sense but they make some great lures. Awesome colors and quality hooks ready to fish right out of the package.
My best day this year was fishing the zoom ultravibe speed worm. Had a 60+ smallie day on the river in the kayak. Went through a ton of bait but had a blast!
Hey man spend the 25 bucks, you will be glad you did. I did a month ago finally and OMG this bait is nuts, nothing compares.. Its perfect and its been getting smashed down here in Mississippi. The vision 110 is my favorite already by a long shot. Youll see when you get one, if you know anything about jerkbaits you will see in the movement it is WAY diff then most. The Lucky Craft Pointer is also a High Quality Jerkbait.. Those 2 together is all I need this winter and spring and Ill be slaying. It is worth the money and more in my eyes. Just ordered a couple 110 Jr.s The berkley Stunna and 6 Sense Provoke are also Great Jerkbaits, The rapala shadow rap is a great bait in certain situations. But I def recommend the Vision 110 to anybody out here that likes to fish a jerkbait.
At the end of the day, isn’t an original Senko better than all others in its class? Don’t get me wrong, the others are great, and I personally love throwing a SK Ocho, but I believe nothing beats a Senko. Just my $.02, and please don’t flame me. lol.
So I got the 6th sense subscription box this year and let me tell you, so much of their stuff is good. Favorites: the Prawn soft plastic (specifically in darkmelon red) great for flipping cover on a Texas rig, the provoke 106, and the flush soft jerk bait. Other than that, the Missile 48 crushed this year along with the 6” roboworm on the Owner Covershot hook.
My favorite lure was the live target field mouse. Caught my pb on it. My least favorite lure was the lunkerhunt lizard. Didnt cast well, often ended up upside down and picked up some much grass and other debris. It got snagged and I was not mad at all.
I'm with you on the Teckle Sprinker frog, that thing is killer! Those topwaters look so strange, I just imagine them fouling up on themselves a lot. That VMC wacky weedless hook can go straight to hell if you ask me!
Hey there, Skippy!!…ah, DEBO!! Another EXCELLENT teaching viDEBO❗️I’ve been absent a good bit the last few months trying to get some stuff done on the house. Sorry. Stay safe and warm, my friend
Hey Debo I just got into bass fishing this past year and I just wanna say thank you so much for all the lure recommendations, how to's, and entertaining content. Wacky rig is for sure my favorite lure good luck in 2022 and go hawks! (I live in Iowa too)
I’m a little sad to say that the spinnerbait was not my friend this year, but the the all black pad crasher paid off with my pb. Oddly enough it was my last fish of the season and my only fish that day. I was really determined to get one last frog fish that day and boy howdy did it pay off!!!
So in 2021 I started throwing a chatterbait for the first time, the chatterbait mini to be exact, and had so much success!!! Colour, white or black blue, in 1/4oz.
I have had great success with the whopper plopper 75s, so when the 60 came out I tried it this year. I don't have issues with hookups or having bigger fish come unbuttoned on the 75. But on the 60 I had every bigger fish I hooked throw it off. (3 in one outing) I may have been doing something wrong but that little topwater just wouldn't hold them well. Did draw a lot of strikes though. Best bait for me was the swim senko on a VMC finesse rugby jighead.
Being mostly bank-bound, have to agree 110% with the cross eyes chatterbait. I’m a bit surprised with the PowerPro, as I’ve only heard good things about the brand. Not sure why the reliability of the lower pound test can’t translate into the heavier. Not surprised however on the Amazon braid ling… I mean line. Believe me, I look for opportunities to save, but seldom on line. Thanks for the honest opinions brother, that’s why we keep watching! 👍🏻
I 100% agree with your assessment of the jackhammer vs the crosseyes. They fish so similarly and every bank angler needs to maximize their potential of not losing their lures. I got that skitterblade in a Monster Bass box and it was just awful for the reasons you mentioned.
Good braid I’ve had luck with all summer is that berkley x5. Got it in 30,40 and 65 pound. No flat spots like power pro seems to get. Always on sale at Walmart too. I wanna try the x9 on my spinning setups.
Debo, looking for a casting reel that won't break the bank (budget) for casting distance. I already have both Shimanos (Curado DC & SLX DC). Looking for something for that really long cast. Yes I watched both of your reel test. Thanks, keep up the great vids..👍
A very good review! I wonder if you have ever seen these: "Bass Pro Shops Hook Guard for Weedless Lures." These are just lengths of clear soft plastic strips to run up the hook and then down where you stab the hook point into the other end? One issue might be getting it over the bait keeper on a Jackhammer but it does slide over the hook barb . . . so maybe not an issue. Might be useful beyond $18 Jackhammers of course.
Hey Debo: Enjoy hearing your explanations and experiences. Completely agree: I've found the wire on the VMC WACKY WEEDLESS to be stupidly stiff and an absolute FAIL. To their credit, VMC makes my favourite EWG (their 7311 series).
i had a terrible experience as well with that Mustad bladed jig thing. I could not get it to work so much as once; the blade just flopped over and acted like a shovel or something. But, like you, I fell for the look of the lure and that nice weed guard on the hook....maybe a version 2.0 is in order where Mustad can correct the action
"The only reason why you were able to catch that fish on that lure was because it just so happened to be what's tied on to the end of your line at the time." -Gary Klein
Also, love these and I could not agree more that so many people out there would rather buy expensive soft baits, buy cheap out on the hook. I rather spend money on the hook, and less on the bait, most of the time you can find a similar bait for half the price. Not the same with a hook.
Castaic manna crank bait in blue/chartreuse was hands down my favorite bait this year. Landed my new PB on it. Unfortunately I lost it a few days later, will be buying another
I did great on the wacky rig this year with the Berkley Max Scent The General, but my standout lure of the year was this really stupid BPS Tournament Special Crankbait in Golden Tiger. I thought it was a box filler, so I tied one onto my nephew's line and he immediately hit like four nice bass. So I gave it a go, got a couple of 4+ pounders, then a 28" pike and I hooked up a good sized muskie on it, although it broke me off. Not bad for a $3 lure!
Great video. Berkeley stunna jerkbait!! Works as advertised. .... crosseyez is the best chtterbait for a bank angler. Fish it like a jig ! Used an open hook chatterbait and didn’t last one cast vs my crosseyez that I’m still fishing after 7 outings. ... really need to try the weighted wacky. Top lines for me are pline tactical, Berkeley xl smooth casting, kastking superpower braid.... Vmc wacky weedless, not a fan. Just didn’t work. Daiwa j-braid was a big let down for me. Idk if i got a bad spool or what but that braid has more memory than Fluorocarbon, maybe it’s a coating on the braid ?
Just went & bought a Megabass Popmax in Gill pattern and color. They ain't cheap!! I used one of my buddy's in later part of July 21 & I think that bubbling feature had alot to do with the catch ratio improving. Now I've got my own to sweat about losing now. That Ito engineering is quite pricey but I really wanted one due to nobody around here is chunking one yet
I love my vmc wacky weedless hook I use basspro wacky rings it exposes the hook more and it's so much fun to catch fish this way, I mainly use the googan lunker log like the 4 or 5 inch worms, but you have to try this set up.😊
I always loved the “stripper camo” that came on the reaction Innovation packages. It was a missed opportunity they never made any clothing with it. I could use a hoodie with that camo pattern
My favorite this year by far is the Zman Big Blade. Fishing it from the kayak in the mud is amazing. Better than the Jackhammer, Thunder Cricket and Picasso Shock blade combined. The next two were a close second and both came from you, Missile Mini D Chunk and the Crosseyez chatterbait. The last was a bit of a surprise for me and that was the tiny keitech. Caught a bunch with the 2.8 on a Coolbaits underspin.
As for the clickbait, I agree in the categorization being wrong, but its a dynamite fish catcher. It should be thought of as a swimbait. Open water, over grass (not in) gives that swimbait more wobble and subtle vibration. Lets you go slower while suspending over stuff too. This winter it's produced good numbers for me, and so far in 2022 I've actually not caught a fish on anything else yet.
i like the jackall rerange, in 2020 they released a medium diving model havent tried it yet but if it has the same action as the shallower one it should be an awesome jerkbait.
Hi DEBO MAN I REALLY ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS BEING A FIRST TIME FISHERMAN I HAVE LEARNED A LOT FROM YOU SO THANK YOU. I DO HAVE A QUESTION OK WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO TIE ON AND RIG A CHATTER BAIT
I bought 50# PowerPro Maxcuatro this year and I broke off multiple times when casting. The worst is when it happens inside the spool and you are digging forever to find the end of the line. Definitely not buying again. Sticking to Sufix 832. Glad to see I’m not the only one who experienced issues!
Super Bug in Missle and Sun Gill from RI two colors I always have. Spro popping frog Green Pumpkin has become my go to color for clear water and anywhere they eat a lot of bluegill but rainforest black for all situations
Hey DEBO! What is your favorite frog fishing combo? Rod and reel? Or which reel lasted the longest...(i mean geary noise(especially for higher gear ratios) , palmability, price range, etc) I have seen almost all of your vids... All the frog fishing stuff... but im curious if u need to choose which one it will be? And I want to develop my frog fishing "game" for this year... I have been looking out for a couple reel(tatula 200, shimano curado, speed spool, etc....)
Zoom superfluke was killer for me caught a lot on those next would be those boo yaah micro jigs however my son bought some braid on amazon made in usa some of the best brsid i have ever used spectra fiber got like a 500 yard spool 25 bucks
Nice review, Debo. Agree with your assessment of $$$for certain jerkbaits. I've found the Jenko Perseus suspending jerkbaits cast well, throw great flash, and stop dead on the pause ... And run about 10 bucks.
Ok, .. yeah I agree with you big time!!!! Chatterbaits,...... it's so hard to explain my thoughts. Chatterbaits are great but....... I don't use them from the bank like I do from the boat. When I throw it from the bank I'm fishing a little faster than I would in a boat. I lose these baits faster than anything I have ever used. It's a bait that I go for when I know it is a good bass and I except the fact it's going to get stuck & go for it anyway. My favorite jerkbait is Rapala in mossy back color. Perfect presentation. Now it's time to talk about the baits I learned about from you...... Missle Baits!!!!!!! I have gone into overdrive with these serious plastic baits!!! I fish my Ned Bombs with a ZMan Bulletz jighead and the favorite color Bluetonium. Baby DBomb is my favorite ceature bait color is Hillbilly magic.
That Teckle Sprinker Frog is what I caught my current PB Bass on, in crazy thick pads! One lure I've brought, then had 2nd thoughts on and haven't even opened it yet is that huge lizard lure, haha. I still might try it one day during the Spring or early Summer, I have yet to see any lizards that big on the lake or river anyway haha.
Love your unboxing and videos like this, it’s refreshing not to have Googan products shoved down my throat the whole video like the guys in Florida do, making videos named “my 3 year old picked out my lures challenge” and low and behold they magically picked out 3 different bandito bugs, lunker logs and a mondo worm. Unfortunately I saw a skitter lizard in Dicks and bought it, went home and saw that all the reviews said it was trash, hopefully Northern Snakeheads eat it! Keep up the content and help me get excited for spring time!!
The Ima Flit is one of the best jerk baits out there IMO. It rarely gets mentioned in jerk bait videos but it is easy to impart the action you want from a jerk bait good stock Owner hooks and around half the price of a 110.
We got a quick peek at Randizzle! Rapala husky! Did not mind loosing one and comes in great colors and sizes for jerk bait. Most fish yamasenko 5” grn pmkin/ leg red flake wacky jackall 1/16 weedless with mustad o rings! Best fish surprised me bone whopper plopper 90. And Hank Parker Classic 3/8 wht/Chrt spinner bait. Thanks for the video now I have to order up some frogs and stupid jig heads before there out of stock!
I can't say I've tried anything new this year, I'm still using older baits that I've had for a while. Best lure culr tail worm like a culprit worm or straight tail trick worm. Worst lure, quite a few from catch co
