In the oven test, I meant to aim for a temperature a bit extreme to 35ºC, as I can't simulate direct sun light, which I think could get a camera to over 40ºC. I put both camera inside a 35ºC environment for at least 5 minutes before I turn them on, as if they were going to be used in a hot climate. I was surprised the R50 overheated straight away! By no mean this is a scientific test, if you think in anyway I could improve my method of testing please let me know!

Loved the Cannon colour science but handed back my R5 due to reliability issues, bearing in mind this was meant to be a flagship camera it just refused to work on too many occasions. It's saying something when my backup olympus em5 mark ii came to the rescue and worked every time it was switched on Look unless you're invested in the Canon system avoid this brand until they sort out their quality control

R8 is so advanced now compared to my old 6D or 5D mark 2.... I dont think the digital stabilization is an issue if u shoot 4k anyway

The announcement of LumixS5-2 AND S5X shook the world of photo cameras. It was pretty predictable that EVERYONE would put a bandaid on that. So it was a matter of months before Canon, Nikon and Sony released something new. And here we are. I like these two cameras, but I'm waiting for Canon to release the full specifications on their websites. Until then, I am not convinced at all. Poor microwave torture ahah

If the R50 is cutting off at 37C/99F, it's a no-go for places like Texas and Arizona. It will be out of commission for as much as half the year, except maybe for indoor and night shooting.

The cameras look nice & are a good compact travel size but how big are the lenses? The R50 is basically an M50(ii) with an R-mount but at least the M-mount lenses were a compact size for portability if not often quality. Battery life looks as poor as ever. R8 is tempting but i think i'd need/want IBIS. What's the image quality of the APS-C sensor like, same as the M50? I'm disappointed with my M50's ISO over 1600 (same as my old 650D) and if this new one is the same, then no, i'll pass. Thanks for the wideo.

How does the R8 electronics stabilization work for still photography on lenses that do not have IS. For example the 17 -40 L (used with an adapter) ?

I think the stabilization is for video only.

@@DigitalSamTV Depends if you need IBIS. Quite a few of the lenses are stabilised. I think if this had IBIS it would be bigger and heavier and probably more expensive and it would be closer to it's bigger brother, the R6ii. You can set minimum shutter speed auto iso so I'm not sure for my photography how useful ibis is anyway.

@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto yeah I know but that stabilization certainly helps a lot of shooting in low light or wanting to keep ur iso lower or F higher on the wide angle. For sure the R62 body has it, bit it's much more bulky, love the size of the R8 and the quality sensor packed into such a tiny body

@@DigitalSamTV Coming from cropped sensor cameras, I generally find that ISO in low light on full frame cameras stay lower for longer. Coupled with an IS Canon lens should help. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if IBIS was in the R8 but it could hurt sales of the R6ii I'm guessing. It would also be another massive drain on the already tiny battery on the R8. I haven't got an R8 yet but my finger is on the trigger as the size and weight of the R8 coupled with the R6ii sensor and AF performance is a big draw.

Early Sony E mount days: cameras every other month. Few lenses. Nowadays Sony: Many lens with various bodies. Canon is copying the same strategy. Internet Canon-haters will trash Canon 24/7, but facts won't change that they are gaining&open the mirrorless market further with more models. It is a win for everyone. Just hoping they will let 3rd party to issue AF lenses that Canon won't make.

Eh, not really. R7's (and lower numbered entries) feature set is better than the R8 to R50. So that kinda justifies the name.

@@cornlourd Higher resolution, faster burst, IBIS. I do understand that it's the modern day 7D, made for sports. But the R8 is much better in low light due to it's sensor technology, higher iso, darker af capabilities, the evf is bigger. I think Canon got confused when they have to decide where to put and what name they should give to the baby R6 in the lineup. So, they went with number 8 since it's still a full frame in the end. I think the R7 should be named R10 (the baby R1, top of the line for the APSC made for pros, especially sports) or R30 (simply the baby R3). Then the R10 should be the R100 (just like the 100D). Then people wouldn't get confused with "why there's an APSC camera in the single digit R, when the others are full frame". But, I digress since it's only in my opinion. Thank you for you opinion tho' ~

Best value? I don't know, you can't really beat used A7ii for value. And with closed bayonet you will pay through the nose for either mediocre, or overpriced Canon lenses. Have fun going down, Canon.
