Hi, I’ve been thinking about getting a Birman cat. But the shedding is worrying me slightly. How much do they shed on a daily basis? Is it like, you need to dust and vacuum daily as everything is covered kind of amount or is it like a few floof balls here and there that you can easily pick up?🤷🏻♀️
They are long haired cats so they do indeed shed a lot of fur and you kinda have to just accept that fur will get everywhere, but I find that if I brush mine daily it helps a lot. As long as I brush him regularly, I don't find myself cleaning any more than I usually would need to maintain a clean house. You should expect some fur, but it's not some crazy insane clean your house every day situation.
@@Celeryroll thank you for clearing that up. That is very helpful. Every cat sheds. That’s fine. I just don’t want it to completely takeover my home haha. A cat groomer explained that combing would suffice once a week as cats tend to shed more when you do that daily. She also mentioned that you should check for knots going through their hairs daily and use slight wet cloth and just catch the loose hairs with that. It’s obvious I can’t say whether or not this works or not, but it made sense to me.
@@Richarmed It makes absolutely no sense at all that combing daily would cause an increase in shedding. I would believe what a vet says over a groomer. Combing and brushing only removes hair that is loose but has not yet fallen all the way out. What does affect shedding in some breeds is increased shedding in Fall and Spring, if they have a double coat or not, if they have health issues, increased anxiety, and what they eat.
I adopted 2 older Bengals which really gave me the run-around when it came to food. Turning their noses up at what I was told they liked I tried all kinds, including cooking Irish minced beef - which they also rejected! It may be a case of trial and error, as cats are notoriously finiky eaters!! ❤️😸🏠🐈😺❤️
