In this video, we take a look at arguably one of the easiest tools to create new virtual machines. Multipass from Canonical gives you the same look and feel to creating and configuring virtual machines as we have with creating Docker containers. We look at installing, configuring, and creating virtual machines with Multipass.

I'm curious about the format types for virtual machine images....I want to use Quem/Kvm on a Alma open stack kubernetes cluster...maybe using Horizon as a dashboard...any thoughts are appreciated.

Do you know if it can create a vm image of the system it is being invoked on...i.e. the windows machine it is operating on ? And can it create a minimal boot image to launch other images from ?

Sir I have desktop environment In VMware 17 I used linux 22.10 But it crashes or hang. Every 5 minute. It hangs. What to do. Mostly terminal and mozila in which linux hangs.

Vagrant has been around for years, is well known and appears more flexible than Multipass.

Roy, thanks for the comment. Vagrant is definitely an awesome tool. I think multipass shines in its ease of use. Vagrant is definitely easy once you get used to it, however, I think multipass is even easier than Vagrant, while compromising some features that Vagrant has

I dunno. Its nice to see and use options, but I'm really not seeing a decent pro here to loading on top of Virtual Box or Hyper-V an additional tool. And I then think its compounded by the base issue of being a complex command line tool. With respect, if 'easy' is the idea, then its only going to be easy for a specific command line happy crowd. If you take someone who isn't tech savvy, by the time you have walked them through Hyper V or Vbox setups and adding this in, and then advising that they will need to dev a command line knowledge to even get started, I just think this is barking up the wrong tree. I do think skilled people might like to use it on top of their Virt setup - but thats a different audience.

Why not just make a live bootable Linux ISO USB? Or just bite the bullet and install Linux on a second disk drive or your main drive?! Personally I'd say Linux Mint is the most Windows user friendly option the way it's all laid out. Manjaro with the Plasma desktop is a 'tad' more complex, but that desktop environment behaves _very_ similar to the way Win 10 does and I find it's totally worth the slight added learning curve.

@EvilWorldOfGreed-do1ox So far, Canonical has kept things on the up and up from what I have seen. I like their contributions to the open-source community and seems like they are still committed to that unlike Red Hat :-/

I see no advantage in using multipass. I stick to Virtualbox, at least I have a nice GUI. I use Virtualbox since 2009.

Bert, thanks for the comment! Nothing wrong with VirtualBox for sure....this is just a quick way to get quick and easy Linux VMs without the need to install and confgure them manually in VirtualBox

I think a lot of the benefit is for those using cloud services. As you can set one up using multipass with a single command. It's mentioned on the mulitipass web page. For automation, or QA, Dev work this could be quite useful. Or for those like me, who 'grew' up on ascii terminals the CLI is a welcome and familiar friend. :)

Multipass does not support secondary disk drive support. While configuring rook ceph osd storage, it demands secondary disk. But Multipass do not have this support even now. any workaround exists in multipass ?
