In your experience, can the AT2020 produce professional-sounding vocals? Right now I have the EXTREMELY cheap Neewer NW-800 and no matter what you do with it, it always sounds muffled and off, but I also am hoping that isn't just the cheap audio interface I'm using (Behringer UMC202HD). Should I go for it and buy the AT2020 or get a better audio interface first?

You need a pre amp, yes ur audio interface and mic quality matter but if you don't have a pre amp ur just selling urself short

I highly recommend the Audio Technica AT2020 for you're first purchase if you're getting into recording I use it as well and all you have to do is find you're sweet spot for perfect vocals.

I love the Samson Q2U. It's a good mic for podcasting on the go, and I've used it for vocals. It's pretty good at background noise rejection, seeing it's a dynamic, and it's USB/XLR. Honestly, if people have bad treatment, they really should consider dynamics. Compressors and whatnot are a lot more forgiving with them. I ended up swapping out my Rode NT1 for a SM7B, and never looked back. Hurt my wallet, though.

i came here for a mic that wont buzz...does the phantom power box we use matter?

When it comes to buzzing most of the time, it's a cheaply made microphones or something with cheap un-shielded & non-grounded components. You need phantom power (+48V) to power your condenser mic that requires it. I would avoid microphones or any other electronics that doesn't have credible information and reviews online. I hope this helps.

You are welcome and thank you for commenting. I think it would be very beneficial to have both. Two different microphones with two different sounds. The AT2020 will pick up more information/detail from vocals due to it's condenser nature.

Honestly, it's a tough choice for me between the AT2020 and the Blue Ember. The blue ember has a smaller diaphragm so I will ultimately go with the AT2020 because of the versatility of a larger diaphragm. The quality is the same but that's the feature I would choose over anything.

Honestly, 2 blue ember or 2 AT2020 would be great. You are recording the keys and bell right? I've gotten great results with mic placements with those parts of the clarinet.

Hey bro, great video. Thanks for the info! To think that I believed I had to spend big money on my home studio to record high quality music is laughable now. I sold my Neumann TLM 103, Apogee Duet 2, and Avalon VT 737sp to buy video and photo equipment; but now, I’m looking to start recording music again, so this video came-in handy. I’m stuck between buying the Audio Technica at2020 and the Apogee hypemic or even the mic plus; what would you recommend? Dynamic microphones are great for untreated spaces but condenser microphones picks up more detail due to it's sensitive capturing internal electronics. Honestly, for vocals, I prefer condenser microphones. I would place acoustic panels in your room space and/or get a reflexion filter such as the Kaotica Eyeball or sE Reflextion filter. I got the AT2020 for my first mic, how ever on my second day of use, it had a static sound coming out with my vocals, I don’t know if this is due to me vaping in my room near my mic? Or what’s going on, but I even got a sound shell to try to help but so far nothings worked

I’ve heard alot of good things about it! I’m a melodic rapper with focus on lyrics, would you recommend doing it or save up for a better mic?

Thank you so much. That's a pretty great setup starting out with. Honestly, I would definitely recommend saving up for a better mic if you have the means and passion, you know. You have a great setup now to do some great songs but if you want to improve your sonic quality go up a step or two with anything. I hope this makes sense and helps. Thanks for commenting as well.

Should i buy the at2020 or the at2035? Pls help me. Because some RU-vidr said that the at2035 has a louder output signal, has a better frequenzy, little bit better sound and a shockmount.

What's up Everett? Honestly, you can start with Logic X (Mac), FL Studio (PC), Ableton (Mac/PC) or Studio One (Mac/PC)... DAWs/Production software pretty music all do the same thing. It's about which layout and workflow you prefer so you are in a good place to just start and get the feel of any one. I hope this helps.

Yeah, just check out some DAWs and see which one interests you most. Majority of DAWs have a free/trial version, so you can even test out some. And, just between you and me... all DAWs are free if you know where to look. Ableton and FL are my personal favs as a PC user, and I ultimately prefer FL for its piano roll feature which lets me lay down chords without any need to whip out a midi; super nice feature.

It sounds pretty decent but I'm more of a traditional signal flow (Mic -> Preamp -> Audio Interface) type of guy. Also, with XLR connections you have more options of expanding and upgrading certain pieces of your studio. With USB microphones you are kind of limited unless you are willing to buy a completely different microphone. I hope this helps.

The snowball is great for podcast and any broadcast application. I wouldn't recommend it for singers/rappers or instrument of any sort. It's still a great microphone tho!

Dude I have an important question for you please get back to me, I have a at2020 that I got when I was 14 I’m 26 now so it’s 12 years old. When I go to record with it, everything starts out fine but then all of a sudden the audio just dies out literally gets all muddy and muffled it sounds so weird and terrible when it happens. But I honestly think the mic is just going bad or one of the components inside is just worn out like I said I have had it for 12 years. But I have tested it on two different audio boxes and tested another mic so I’m pretty sure it’s the mic itself and it is a damn good mic honestly so so good but what do you think? I have an audio file of what it sounds like if you need to hear it
