I heard that the entire experience at Élephante was just "meh." I was looking forward to going there, as well, but I then heard about the atmosphere and how loud it was that you literally had to yell at people sitting next to/across from you in order for them to be able to hear you, similar to what you two experienced. I was also told that the food was nothing special, and it was somewhat pricey for what they were serving. Worst of all, though, I heard that aside from it being really difficult to make a reservation, they forced their customers to use Resy to set it, and during that process, they took a CC number. For any reason, if you needed to cancel your reservation, they required you to do so w/in 48 hours of having set it, otherwise they charged $25 to your CC. I was also told that the reservation couldn't be broken through Resy; it had to be done by contacting the restaurant, and they were apparently notorious for never answering their phone. So essentially, any reservation that was set, even if it needed to be canceled, was going to incur a $25 service fee. I thought that this was a shady way of doing business.
