WOW! I never in a million years thought that this squat exercise could be beneficial to me. I am so thankful that you introduced this concept and I can't wait to get started. Thank you so very much Dr. Tobias. Have a wonderful week.

Whoa! These squatting exercises are HELPING!! Thank you again! I had no clue that squats would be so helpful, but they are (helpful). After 10 minutes of reps, I noticed an improvement. I am going to practice these daily going forward! Thank you so much!

Thank you for your help in these videos! I'm battling left hemiplegia and the frozen shoulder/moderate spasticity in my hand, knee hypertension, drop foot and muscle atrophy in my calf is difficult to navigate each day and I'm a Lefty 😳 I do notice that the more active I am the more I regain mobility. I do have a ways to go but your videos are encouraging and helpful as many doctors/therapists that I've seen are unfortunately not well versed in these areas. I appreciate your time, expertise, and kindness 💕🌺💯

Hello I really like your videos they help me a lot but it would motivate us more if you have a real person who suffered from a stroke it’s easy for us to see how they do the exercises that’s my personal point of view thank you. I hope in your next video you have a patient who has had a stroke 🙏

sORRY dR tARA but you have not ever introduced 'real' stroke people! I get it that you want to ensure correct movement and strokers would be all over the show...but there is more encouragement to be had from seeing 'people like me' Try introducing a range of your clients - each with a bit of a struggle ..rather than someone with a perfect body!

I have found shopping cart racks are excellent aids for stroke therapy. A half hour of leg stretching, walking forward, backward and sideways using the rack as a parallel bar with my good hand is more beneficial than walking with my cane at home. Walking the rack "hands free" with no cane is also much safer than at home, as I have the rack rail right there for support if I falter. Cart racks are usually open at one or both ends, encouraging "hands free" walking as you go from one rail to the other. Handicap ramps have handrails, and stairs nearby for added challenge. Having a tall cold cup of cola in the car is a great refresher after 20 or 30 minutes and leg-stretching exercises on the racks.

I believed Stroke patient can achieve that level as Dr Tara demonstrated one day sooner or later if keep practicing daily. I already can do squat from staircase level 1, only the rhythm at the end during sitting on the staircase a bit faster. I believe I Keep practicing will get that rhythm.
@darkodarkovic7827
@darkodarkovic7827 2 года назад
This exercise is a very tricky tactic to synchronize the muscles of the hip, knee and ankle in a proper rhythm and thus avoid hyperextension. This is exactly what happens to me, it is good at the beginning, but due to the weakness of the affected side, it turns into hyperextension and it only gets worse and fatigue increases. This exercise should teach the brain to use proper proprioception information to maintain proper muscle management rhythm. Thanks, have a nice week.

Oh my! Yes!! About a year ago I asked a question about leg rotation, but I didn’t ask correctly so Dr. Tara couldn’t answer definitively. I approached my issues from supination, which I don’t do, but certainly didn’t describe external rotation at the hip. So, toe push off. Maybe I should say toes because I do have single toe (the big toe) push off instead of all five toes, and it’s because of the external rotation of my leg at the hip level. When I “force” my leg to not rotate I hip hike and circumvent so as not to stub my toe and fall. Once again, Dr Tara to my rescue 🛟 Dr. Tara, you have such a fantastic communication style, being able to explain the issue and the knowledge of the road to solution. Truly your superpowers 💖

I feel that squats are the most useful of the exercises that I was taught in the hospital following my stroke, with the advantage of not causing massive pain in my arthritic non-involved hip. But these are next level with all the detail and I am puffing after about 10 of them where usually I can do 40 at a time no problems. Thanks

I'm a personal trainer and stroke survivor I love your videos. have major synergistic dominance when I Walk and my knee hyper extends like crazy when I walk plus my abductors haven't woken up yet and my knee collapses inward when I practice sit to stands. lately I've been practicing weight bearing on my affected side while doing sit to stands and just standing on my affected leg while bushing my teeth or waiting at a stop light, I also know that this will help my balance significantly, I want to try the block between my feet and strap around my knees but my knee internally notates can you recommend a way to prevent this if I sit to stand so i can use to block and strap to help with weight bearing while keeping my knee in line? thank you!

I was a work out junkie before my stroke. I was lucky to have smith press in my home gym all ready, I put a bench under the bar and do a sit to stand press quiet a few everyday. I like them because it feels like my life before stroke. If I do them in the morning it gives me walking confidence for the day. My biggest problem is confidence. I know I can step off a curb but sometimes just psych myself into thinking I cant and end up freezing and depending on my caregiver for the confidence to do it.

Hi Scott! Great to see you this week! Each therapist has different activities/modalities dependant upon the patient's movement impairments and his/her individual goals. With that said, in this video I give one perspective on how to get more out of a "squat routine" (post stroke/brain injury). And yes, for certain patients I think squats are important for the reasons I stated in this video. :) Moral of the story...... a therapist may not cover every nuanced topic that I cover on this channel. And that by no means is an indication you are receiving substandard care. :) Trust your therapist! Have a great week!
