In NG+ you can in fact reset enhancements, at the coat of 1 WLC. you cant go back 1 slot, it just completely cleans the slate

Dwarven 100% all armor, Dwarven all weapons except pure magic only weapons which you can sill safely go dwarven for knockdown. Around lvl 50, this game becomes a complete cake walk. Min maxing is entirely pointless. Dwarven upgrades increase weight on top of the other benefits. Meaning when you wyvern forge them, they get a greater discount, so you have far more stats per weight you have. More important, though, is knockdown resistance, which is arguably the most important defensive stat, especially for casters with long cast times. If you dont want to think or travel all over the place, Dwarven, everything still remains the easiest likely best choice.

Great Video, a complete explenation about how the forging system works, I also had few doubts but I think that I got the full picture now. Onestly I didn't even read what I was doing at the blacksmith so I discovered recently that there're 4 different types of smithing (first time with Dragon's Dogma), I'm doing just fine with war/sorc/fighter with Bathali for melee, Vermundian for caster (After the discovery I made few changes but I didn't unlocked at that time dwarven) but I will test out other options especially the dwarven for the war/fighter. It's always nice to know how to min/max your character epecially because you can't find any guide inside the game.

Great video as always! 33:28 2 points into versatile and 1 into specialized smithing is great for most weapons but I think it’s important to note that (I’m pretty sure) the 3rd upgrade should always be the specialized one. NorZZa made a video on smithing and from his testing it seems like the 3rd upgrade is the most substantial for damage. Furthermore the 3rd upgrade is the one most effected by specialized smithing. The difference it damage from versatile to specialized is only a couple points on the first two upgrades but the final one goes from 12 (versatile) to 17 (specialized) at least from the weapons he used to test. Just wanted to make a note of this for those wanting to min-maxing their characters.

Awesome vid! I'm currently level 75 Warfaer and love duospears. I have the endgame spear but love the look of the elementals so I put all eleven into the ice boon one thinking magic increased the elemental damage. Does the elemental boon go with the highest stat or will it always be physical for melee weapons?

When it comes to weapon enhancements, it really depends on the build and skills you use with each vocation. For instance the holy daggers on thief dish out more dps than the “endgame” daggers from the dragonforged npc and the skill blades of pyre scales off the magic stat. So an argument could be made for full elven. Same with full dwarvish on sorc, if you focus on spells with high knockdown

What if you a thief and you are a mele damage character but you want to upgrade a weapon like the bolts from the blue daggers since they have magic properties should we go heavy on the magic or mele or one of the others

You also need to factor in the size of your character. I made a tiny thief so when I want to level up Fighter or Warrior the weight reduction is more important as my gear is going to take up a bigger chunk of my carry capacity. If you are huge and have high carry capacity you can afford to sacrifice heavier weight for better increases elsewhere.

So what if you use magic on your weapons like the mages' lighting buff would the upgrade from the elf's boost that damage mitigating any armor resistance the enemy may have?

and as soon as you level up, nothing will really matter all that much. You’ll find new armor frequently and then not be able to wear it after changing vocations. The most important thing is your pawns and using your travel companions to compliment your abilities and vocation. Once youre a high enough level you’ll shred through anything with prisoner armor on. If youre a thief, get the formless faint from the false arisens old squad and you will literally be untouchable and do massive damage with good daggers. Thief is by far my favorite vocation for myself or my pawn especially with plunder equipped to the pawn. Every battle they will steal all kinda of stuff from enemies in the middle of the fight. Which translates into more loot and more gold. Or mystic spearhand for you towards end game. With the shield ability you can protect your entire squad from all damage for about 10-15 seconds, then do it again and when stamina gets low you can steal stamina from the boss with another ability and literally have God mode

I found dwarven for armor and heavy weapons to be quite favorable. Could do the option for thief to use a dwarf-armor + vermund weapon to keep weight low, but if you're using pawns it doesn't matter in the end, unless pausing every 5 minutes to give pawns items is annoying, then that's a good bet too.

Dwarven smithing isn't gated. I went to the house by exploration. So glad I revived the little guy! I hadn't even finished the captains quests.

I think u also missed a point of where u buz weapons aka Vermundian weapons and armour compared to Batalli or elven it increases or decreseas stats accrdinglz. U can get a base stat Batalli armour and spec it with 2 point elven and 1 in Vermundian its weird, All weapons and arour get stats of each forger to its base form

Question: on physical weapons that do magic damage, is it worth it to go one or even two points Elven since those weapons do elemental as well..? Or just focus on that knockdown and strength?

So, as a rogue, I upgraded frosted edges at the elven blacksmith and it gave me like 30 points in Magick damage. Did I mess up?

I wish this game had weapon infusions so we can puck what weapon we like using the most and then add what elements we want for example im using mystic spearhand and really like the deadringer spear for the damage but want it to be more like the enfernal edge witch i like alot but the damage is pretty poor looks awesome does fire damage but i would only recomend the enfernal edge for earygame and quit using it right at midgame witch sucks concidering its a bad ass spear with fire damage biukt in you would think it wouod be better especially how hidden it was only finding it by doing a optional area usually finding a weapon like that would be a top tier weapon in mist games

I'm not sure if I missed something in the video, I probably did, but I have a question that I'm not sure if anyone has addressed. Does the actual upgrade slot matter? Like, if I was going to get a combination of upgrades from different places, does the slot it goes in make a difference? Are the slots (1 2 3) weighted differently in the kind of bonus they give or is it a flat upgrade? For example if I wanted to do two vermundian and one elven, would the order or slot I got the elven upgrade in change the upgrade bonus?

Does elemental damage always scale from base damage? Frosted Edges have 45 percent frost damage and that's 45 percent of physical damage, not magical damage, am I understand this correctly? So there is no point in making elven upgrades to these daggers?

dwarven for everything knockdown is king of all stats. Lose of some magic or strength is nothing to worry about

I wish there was resistance to being pushed around, I did full Knockdown resistance build with heavy end game armor and it didn't help when fighting a group of Knackers or goblins. No matter how much you accumulate, it never seems to be enough.

I want the ability to permanently emchant my weapons with Wyrmslife crystals!

So if I have a permanently frozen weapon if I add magic damage to it will it freeze faster?

Imo all armor should be dwarf smithing, knockdown resist is so strong the defense is pretty good as well. Also all magically enchanted melee weapons should have dwarf as well.

I put dwarven on most my armor since if i die its usually cause im down from somthing lol blasted drogan landed on me again...

Crazy thing you dont even need to upgrade your weapon to dominate in this game lol enchanching is a waste of materials and coins until you are sure what weapons you want keep for endgame

It's not that bad. It's easy just read what you want and enhance there's literally no min max make up your own builds.

Once an item is upgraded, can you change the upgrade if you fucked up?

My warrior and mystic spearhand, dwarven upgrade all the way. Nothing worse than being knock down by hobgoblins (that frustrate me, enraged I would say eheh) jumping on you one after the other, having wolf taking you away or whatever else knocking you down, you are vulnerable for too long, now, warrior are already high on stats for that, but still I want to test with the mayan inspired set, because just the greeves will give you over 200 of knock down resistance after 3 upgrades etc... I dont care too much for the strengh for weapons because its already high (plus the over the top strong abilities/weapons skills) and if you can knock down enemy they wont move easy because of the knock down power, there is a reason, why its a unlocked upgrade and request rarer stuff. I would argue the weight does not matter at all, there is not a big enough difference, plus it get cut in half, once dragon forged, so it really does not matter to look up for that stat, since even if you upgrade only with battali and dwarven, with dragonforged, you will end up way lower than its initial weight. I would go like this for weapons: Fighter: Battali and/or dwarven Archer: Battali Thief: Battali Mage: Elven Warrior: Dwarven Sorcerer: Elven Mystic spearhand: Battali and/or Dwarven Magick archer: Elven Trickster: I wonder for this one, does illusions are classed as ''magick'' or is it a standalone thing. May be the knock down power is important, since Dragon summons as for only purpose to have ennemi knocked down or fleeing... May be the incense knock ennemies conscience? lol I dont know. There is no point of using the Vermundian upgrade, unless you are at the very beginning, but vermundian, give you mediocre upgrade on strengh and magick for weapon and weight... but as I said, weight does not matter at all, so technically, you end up with only two important stats raising compare to dwarven with the 3 improvement, and they are substantial too, especially the knock down power...

Nah its always best to find the most balanced def+magick def and load up dwarven... being knocked down is 0 dps so... not good Mix and match is only relevant to weapons

Dwarven all the way unless you need Magic attack, then wyvern to half the weight.

Everyone keeps saying knockdown res is king or just dont get knocked down thats the better no ranged character should be getting knocked down enough to warrant it tbh and every melee class has a block or an evade or a complete immunity as in spearhead shield

Level 36, had no idea that the different upgrades did different things to the items.

I CAN"T EVEN UPGRADE! it requires stupid sharpen fangs WHICH only happens at the town at the end, if the dragon kills them, they wont re spawn again, if the cyclops kills them, well, you out of luck, now you can't upgrade if it requires a sharpen fang. EVEN the wondering merchants don't sell the material GAAH

This game is favorably unbalanced toward knockdown making Dwarven a linear choice as bis. Don't bother over thinking as Capcom went all smooth brain on stats making all other options pointless.
