When I come to Thailand I usually bring cash. But I was down in Kamala Beach and I decided to use a ATM because my cash was getting short. So used the ATM machine and it ate my debit card! I learned one thing, if you must use a ATM, make sure there is a bank right behind the ATM so you can go inside and get help to get the card back. I used a ATM that was not located in front of a bank. I never got the card back. Then had to watch my cash money that I still had for the rest of my trip and used my credit card for my hotel stay back in Pattaya. Never, never, never, use a ATM with no bank behind it,,,,,,,,,,,,

If you have currency that has marks or small rips there is a place to exchanges these. Go to where you catch the baht bus to Jomtien. About 100 meters down, on the same side of the street, is a small shop called “Super T”. They will closely examine your currency and if it’s real they will exchange it even with pen marks or rips.

Really good advise as always. I would add another downside of ATMs is that if your on a big night out and you get a tipsy... its easy to forget to take your card from machine..Thai ATM's dispense cash first....then Card second! ...Opposite to many Western ATMs. Always bring a back up card if your a party animal. Thank me later.

If you need to exchange money for hotel and taxi fares etc, before you arrive in Pattaya, the best place is in the train station in Suvarnabhumi Airport. It is attached to the airport but not classed as inside the airport so the booths there have better rates than those actually in the airport itself.

I used the TT Exchange on Soi Buakhao, the one opposite the Take Away cafe. It was early one afternoon. I was changing £500 Sterling. When she gave me the Thai money, I stood in front of her and counted it. I then realized she had short changed me by 1,000 THB. When I challenged her, she promptly gave me the 1,000THB. No argument. She knew she had been rumbled. My advice to everyone is to check the amount before you move away from the kiosk.

If you must change cash at the airport, go to the ground floor just afterwhere the train ticket machines are. Best rates at the airport and on a par with Superrich in Bangkok.
@issman100
@issman100 3 года назад
TT currency exchange usually gives the best rate but it worth mentioning that any notes that are cut damaged or have any writing in them will be rejected, been caught out a few times and they check each note thoroughly.

When I go to the bank to get my holiday cash, I specify new notes,no writing, no damage. I check them at the counter and reject any that isn't up to scratch. Avoids problems when I get to Superrich in Bangkok or when I roll up to TT for my Baht.

Phulet will officially open to tourists without quarantee on July 1st, but I don't know about Pattaya. This news has been in The Phuket News and The Bangkok Post. As to changing money, I always use the exchange booths, of which there is no shortage. The differences in the exchange rates are minimal. Also, I always stay at hotels I can trust and keep my money in the safe. I have recentty stayed at the Bayview and Bayshore hotels without any problems. - Thanks for the many videos! 👍

If you do have to exchange money at Suvarnabhumi Airport (not recommended but sometimes needs must) go all the way down to the bottom level and head towards the train platform and use the exchanges there, you will get a slightly better rate than the exchanges in the main terminal area.

well, i'll have zero baht once i get off the plane at the airport and it will be my first time.. is there some kind of alternative method to exchanging???
@Andy-4342
@Andy-4342 Год назад
@@crs9128 Depends. If you are bringing cash from your home country, it needs to be the newest crispest highest denomination bills with no marks or writing or anything on them. Once you clear customs and immigration take the escalators down to the lowest level and follow the signs for the train. As you walk down that hallway from the airport to the train station there will be money exchangers there. Exchange what you will think you need there until you can get in to town, whichever one you are headed for (Bangkok, Pattaya, etc...). Alternatively, there are ATM machines in the hallway to the train, and if you have a card with no foreign transaction fees and ATM fee reimbursement then you can use the ATMs there.

When I travel to Thailand I tend to do a combination of bringing money to exchange it on the exchange booths on the street and also using an ATM. A handy tip for Australian's, get a ING Direct Saving card and use that in the ATM's in Thailand. They don't charge you a fee and they cover any foreign bank charges charged to your account. They certainly cover the bank charges of other banks when in Australia and I was stunned when I noticed on my statement that any ATM charges from Thai banks were returned to my account by the bank (Note this service is only available if you deposit $1000 Aussie in your bank account every month and use your card for purchases 5 times in a month) Hope this helps.

TT always seemed the best option for exchanging notes, clean, larger notes are the best option. Ripped, torn, defaced notes will not be accepted I've been using the Krungsri bank ATMs for years and always select the option to let my bank do the conversion so the rate was very good, no fees from my bank, just the 220 baht ATM fee. Establishing a thai bank account via Wise is def the way to go for longer stays. I'll be shopping banks soon. Thanks to Trev and others for recommendations!

There was a exchange across from central marina called sabai exchange that had great rates but another casualty of covid. In regards to ATM, get a bank that will reimburse your fees like schwab or capital one. But if you can open a bank acct that would be best rather than in the hotel safe. Great informative video Aloha 🤙🏼

I always used to take 3 types of money, some Tbht. an atm card and travellers Cheques, now harder to cash TCs , I was in Pattaya about 20 years ago when ALL atms were down for the day , a friend of mine was having a big fight in the street with a bar girl because he could not pay her. Very nasty. It was only my TCs that got him out of trouble. Now i carry a travellers cash atm card, many types including Qantas ,I link it to my home account.

If you're travelling to Thailand frequently, best to open a bank account there when you get there through an agency (such as KeyVisa, very helpful) and transfer the money from your account at home to your Thai account via TransferWise. Take cash with you at your own risk, I've had some taken from my hotel safe (not all, but a couple notes, thanks to the cleaners that I've tipped) once so be very careful. My favourite Indian restaurant is Everest out the back of Retox Soi Honey!

I always go over the counter at Krungsri bank, usually at the one in central festival. You dont have any limits on how much you can withdraw, no fees and the rate tends to be better than other places. I have used travellers cheques in Thailand but not since 2008, I dont know if anyone out there still takes them. Just a question. Those of you in the US and UK who are well into the vaccination program. Do you receive any certification to prove you have been vaccinated. As it looks like this will be required for international travel. Passport endorsements have even been mentioned.
@mikerowe8548
@mikerowe8548 3 года назад
yes you get like a medical card with record.
@philroberts1745
@philroberts1745 3 года назад
I believe currently you get a card as physical confirmation, and the information goes on your NHS medical record which can be accessed by any doctor (as is the case when you receive any vaccine or treatment here in the UK). So when the time comes - when it is decided by government(s) what format the "vaccine passport" will take (most likely as an addition to the pre-existing NHS app we have on our phones) - the confirmation will be able to be retrieved and transferred/stored in the agreed upon digital format. If it were required right now, you could always just get a confirmation letter or certificate from your GP to travel, as has been the case for many years with things like Yellow Fever vaccinations etc required to visit certain places. There is nothing new here except the terminology: "vaccine passport."
@PittsVegas

I always used the yellow exchange booths, particularly the one near Arcon Bar. I've used the curry house you mentioned, albeit 6-7 yrs ago. But the best chicken Madras I've had on the planet was in New plaza about halfway through. Best English breakfast used to be in the butcher's arms. Now sadly gone. Best and least costly eatery in Pattaya is on Soi Buakaou, nearly opposite Sugar A Go-go going towards Oasis ago-go Sometimes referred to as the tin cup cafe. Meals from 30 baht, but it's 90% Thai cuisine, which I love. Yet to find my favourite bar. Far too many to mention. Best accommodation is the first I ever stayed in, Flipper Lodge hotel, Soi 8 back in February, '07.But strangely never been back in 9-10 subsequent visits. Not even been to Thailand in 5+ years. Missing Pat's, big-time.
