Cheater wrench torque multiplier. Just to show what I used here, I don't recommend it at this time. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
Milwaukee 3/4 drive cordless impact www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-2864...
Update on the price, I must have got in on a special when I got mine for $149 now they are $249 for the Cheater wrench. I will be testing another one in a couple days because I broke this one on a wheel on the other side of the trailer and I don't want to wait for the warranty replacement so I'm getting a different one at Northern Tool. I like this one better for a couple of reasons. Here's the link to buy it online in the States, I don't know about overseas.

That's an awesome tool Gordon, thanks for sharing! If I was still working at the craphole I'd be all over that. For _years_ we did it the manual way which meant cheaters and pipe wrenches. We eventually got the 1" air impact with the 3/4" hose and that took care of 80% of our needs, but the plant air wasn't all that great so the stubborn ones were still done the hard way. I never knew this existed. Wish I did.

For anyone that's interested, it's a gearbox inside the tool. It turns your hand crank into huge torque. Putting your drill on it won't help as those can produce up to 2000ft/lbs just with your hand alone. Also, you'll shatter the gear box with an impact or drill. HF sells one, tried it; Gearbox locked up. Probably from the friction since it isn't designed to be turned at 1200RPM lol Also, if you need an impact on a torque multiplier, I'm pretty sure whatever you're removing is welded haha

This video was very helpful. But I find that all of your vids are educational, especially for those of us who are more trucker than mechanic. I don't want to tie up a lot of hard earned money on specialty tools if I can do the job with common tools. But I am going to get a torque amplifier; could have used one 30 or 40 years ago.

I have one of these for my boom truck. Just discovered it about a year ago and they're great! Before that I improvised with a 10' x 1 1/2" iron pipe cheater on a huge breaker bar. The amazing thing is that even with all that leverage it was still pretty hard to break 'em loose! Absolutely an incredible amount of stubbornness stored in those damn lugs! Gotta be real careful with keeping the left and right hand threads straight though!

Nice video. I have one made more for class 6 and under that I used to carry in my Jeep. I bought it after helping a guy who had a flat tire and e couldn't get the lug nuts off. The tire shop must have torqued the nuts to just before the breaking point of the lug because I bent both his wrench and the lug itself getting one of the nuts off. I had wanted a torque multiplier for some time anyway and this gave me a good reason to buy one. These things can apply a *_lot_* of torque.

That looks like it would come in handy. We removed the rear rims from a tractor one time. There were 8 bolts that were 7/8" in diameter. in each rim I used a 1 5/16" socket on the 3/4" break over and had a 6' cheater on the break over. About 1/2 of the nuts took the bolt threads off with the nut. It was 31 degrees F at the time (was doing it outside). I was down to my jeans and t-shirt by the time I got done with the 16 bolts.

This is the exact one I've used for years and it works every time. It was expensive no lie about that but it gets the job done. For those who think they'll speed the job up by putting a hammer action impact gun on this tool, don't even think it as this is not designed for that. You'll shatter the internals doing so and $250 ($189 in 2021) will go bye-bye. Sweat equity and some muscle works just fine with this tool. Once I break the nut torque, then I use my Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1" inch impact to finish the job. I've had a few nut/bolts that would not break loose with an air-powered 1" impact but this "red colored" 1:65 ratio CheaterWrench works every time.

Back in the 80's I had a 66 VW beetle and was doing a brake job on it. The rear wheels were held on with a 36mm nut I believe it was and it refused to come off. My Dad and I had tried all the usual stuff like heat, a six foot cheater pipe on a breaker bar, standing on the pipe, jumping on the pipe. With the car on the ground the wheel was turning. The neighbor across the street had been watching this and came over with a air tank from a welder and an air impact wrench. He put that on there and literally in a flash it spun that nut completely off. Now THAT was a power tool.

I have both tools like you do- Milwaukee impact and cheater wrench and it took me a while to get to the point where I combined them both using 1" to 3/4" reducer and it worked out great:) no need to crank that thing using Milwaukee wrench instead with the reducer. I went even further and tried my home cordless drill with that torque multiplier (cheater wrench) and to my surprise it did brake the lug nut loose. That torque multiplier has 58:1 gear ratio (if I'm not mistaken) so basically all you need is 10 ft-lbs torque source(10×58=580ft-lbs) and that cheater wrench to brake nuts loose:) btw the 1"to3/4" reducer should be there in your cheater wrench set

They got the 1inch Milwaukee impact gun now. Seems to be strong. Still that's a good tool to use

Works well if you are doing 3 tires. After that the battery drains quick (12A) will struggle on the 4th. But to remove and re mount the first 2 works great.

Kroil is the very best! "The oil that creeps!" It makes tasks like this one far easier. Apply lots of it. Smack the edge of the lug nut with a flat punch several times. Wait 10 minutes. Remove lug nut with standard lug wrench.

@@drteknical6571 hhmm sure thing DrTek. Neva sieze and correct torque prevents the whole mess when installed. Over tightened by under educated always helps it go easier.

I work at tyres and carry a tool similar on the van. Used properly It has never failed to loosen. I turned up on a yard a few years back that three men had tried the air gun and the long bar and were standing plotting their next move. I used the tool and job done in minutes to their surprise. I recommend this to crack the seal and then the gun to remove. Think about it 1 turn on the handle is about 64 turns on the gun. A great investment.

From what I understand, these cheater wrenches are only designed to loosen lug nuts and bolts, not tighten. I always use my impact to run the lug nuts on, then use a designated torque wrench to tighten to the proper torque specs.

Great for the really tough jobs but for the car or pick up I use a good 4 way and step on the handle. Works every time.

Now that ratchet is slick! Going to be adding that to my Arsenal in a Hot Minute. I’d be tempted to weld up a “Powered adapter drive” socket. (before ones arm falls off ; )

Bought one of these and used it first time on trailer lug nuts and the cast iron tool cracked 3 inches and was no longer usable! Lug nut was tight on there sounded like a gun went off when the tool cracked ! Got another tool from the company and it works great(for now). Maybe a malfunction with the tool they sent me.

back in my army days we broke lug nuts loose by standing on end of long lug wrench handle and bouncing up and down. it was equivalent to more than 1.50 X of body weight. leverage is key
