Thank you! I'm in big trouble today as I spent a lot of time creating art for my webcomic. It's beautiful, but I forgot about the size restriction of 800x1280 pixels. My art is 6000 pixels wide! I'm hoping your help will make this painful reducing of the image give me better results. Otherwise I will need to cut up my image into pieces! Thank you so much. I've learned so much from you. much appreciation and affection.
Thank you very much for sharing your information with us. I learned more from you here and I appreciate that. Can the process you explained here help me solve my particular issue? I may be just overthinking it. My biggest issue Is that my laptop is 7 years old. The graphics card is Intel 4000 and not service anymore. The images that I download from my camera and pictures that I get help creating from Midjourney all have missing pixels and jagged edges. I need to purchase a new laptop but I am not able to at the moment. I have been trying to figure out a way to use Photoshop, to make the pictures sharper and lessen the noise without losing detail. Though I am an artist and a good photographer I am not a Photoshop guru yet. Thank you again for this video, it is very helpful.
Consistently great tutorials, thank you so much! You explain everything so well by not just jumping into it with assumed knowledge but make sure the viewer is brought up to speed every step of the way. Keep up the good work.
Great style. You explain and show many more details than the video title would suggest. Imam moderately experienced in PS and saw a nr of tricks in this one that are new to me. And being a technical person I prefer to learn something by understanding how it works versus to just what it does. I get the sense that you are that kind of person too. That makes for easy listening for me. Thanks for the great videos. 👍
Great stuff! I've been using PSD since V2.5, and I learned a couple cool features (the snapshot and the 2.0 Upscale option) from this vid. Thank you for always providing clear, concise tutorials!
I always use "Save As...". What's the difference on "Export As..." and "Save For Web (Legacy)". I guess the export ones gives you more detail on what you wanna export but still.. what's the point? Don't you already made any changes on the document you worked at? I mean here in this video you have interpolation options on export methods. But you supposedly already applied an interpolation method on your image already. Won't a simple "save as..." give the same result?
Hola Jesus, I know you are an expert on this subject so I a appealing for your assistance with my problem. My camera produces 54 meg - 9000 pixel x 6000 pixel images. Without changing the resolution from 300dpi, If I crop out the central part of my image in photoshop to a size of 6000 pixels x 4000 pixels will the quality and detail of each image be the same? when printed? Obviously one image will be larger in size than the other. I am trying to judge if I create original images with high 54meg Raw files, by cropping into the centre of the image can I use this technique instead of buying a longer lens for my camera (ignoring effect of dof) This to me is confusing, please explain. Many thanks
I am trying to take an image from a 1080x1920 video and then print that image so it is very large (poster size). When I check the pixel dimensions of the extracted image, it is 1080x1920. What is the general pixel size I need to print Large images? 4500x5400? Do I need it larger than that? And why is it my 1080x1920 image looks great even when zooming in on my monitor that is 27inches but information on the internet tells me I would only be able to print very small photos (smaller than my monitior screen) with 1080x1920 pixel dimensions? Thank you for your help?????????????????????????????
Hi Jesus, I have another issue. I just brought a photo my husband took with his cell phone, into PScc . The image came in at 4000px wide by 3000 px height...???????? when I try your method to downsize it, it blurs way out. Any comments? I can't figure out why a cell phone pic of 72 resolution would be so large? When I put a transform box around it and reduce the pic way down by pulling on corner handle, it reduces with perfect results. I'm confused.
Jesus, exceptional tutorial, but I have a question. In the PS Preferences/General tab, what should be the correct Image Interpolation setting? It defaults to Bicubic Automatic. When resizing images up or down, do you have to change both the Image Size from the drop down menu, AND the Image Interpolation in the Preferences/General panel to be identical? If so, seems like a lot of extra work to do the same thing. Clarification please. Thank you.
Once I create the a layer mask the smart object is locked in at that size. For Example, if the image is 50% of its size and I create a layer mask, the image is now the same size but 100%. The file shrinks down, its 100% maximum is now smaller. Before creating a layaer mask I could scale it up and down without the size being changed. After creating the layer mask I can not scale the image without the quality being diminished. What am I supposed to do to keep the smart object from shrinking? I haven't even begun to edit my project and I can't even scale it to edit, without losing quality . Please, someone help me.
If I have a photo with a textual caption on it, I may need to make two layers, one with bilinear and one with bicubic, and then combine them taking the the caption from bilinear. The bicubic sharper method is no good. It adds too prounced halos around edges. The noise was already in the image, but became more visible after enlargement.
Thanks, Jesus. I change a lot of photo sizes but just use them for making my journals and doing digital scrapbooking. ( I know....I'm an old woman with lots of time to fiddle lol) so, I've always just used the shift and pulled from a corner of the transform box. So that's not a good idea? Thank you again for your great videos.
I have Adobe Photoshop CC and even though I went to Edit>Preferences>Technology Previews, I did not have the: Enable Preserve Details 2.0 Upscale choice/option, any ideas on how to solve this issue?
Please let me know if I want to place pictures in photoshop windows to make the door size image ( Which should be 36" x 78") what pixels, resolution and the image size I should use in it? To get the high Definition image after taking the printout.
Image size seems to affect the whole canvas and not just the image or layer I’m wanting it to. It’s absolutely frustrating me. My Image looks like a bunch of pixels when I reduce its size. Forgive my amateurishness I’m very new to this
Great education - thank you. With the advent of new PS features such as Enhance and Denoise, could these be considered within the workflow shown 4 yrs ago ?
Great Tutorial. If you know in advance that you're going to be upscaling your photo, should you process it (including Sharpening) before you upscale it or do the processing after ? Thanks for your help. Darren.
How to resize different images in same size in terms of inch, centimeter for example I want to resize all the 8 X 10, 7 X 4, 12 X 9, 16 x 9, 20 X 16 etc images to a particular size say 8 X 5 inch / centimeter in one document?
Hi Jesus, For some reason when I select the layer using select tool, and press Ctrl + T the top bar does not show the interpolation option there. Is there a setting which I am missing using PS 2020
Thank you so much for another great tutorial and thanks for explaining the interpolation methods in depth Jesús. I often wondered about the intricacies of resizing and what they all meant.
Damn, I really love your videos man. It's always a great opportunity to learn something new and you do it in the most informative, compact and interesting way. Thanks for doing what you do!
That was fantastic information Jesus! I have had to resize some of my images and now I have a much better understanding of how to do so! Thanks a bunch!
Thank you, Jesus, I had no I idea that photoshop could resize an image with which such good quality. The explanation of the interpolation methods was very helpful.
Great video! Thanks for posting. In the past versions of Photoshop, I had heard that to achieve the best results that one should increase the image in 10% increments until the desired dimensions were attained. Is this true now as well or am I OK to just select the end result and go in one large jump?
I never heard of that. I can see how enlarging by an even number could help in some cases. But I don't see how doing increments of 10% would make something look better than just increase something by 200%. Give it a try and see if it makes a difference.
Excellent explication of this technique - as always very well explained and shown with examples. What I wonder is when do you recommend using special programs or plugins for enlarging pictures, e.g. if one wishes to make large prints.
Thank you, Rolf! I usually don't use plugins and stick to Photoshop. Having said that, I know that some plugins are great for certain tasks. I just don't have one in mind for your question.
With this video, I took notes to make sure all these points are remembered. I've been looking for a video like this, and it's great you put it up, here. These are all excellent tips for resizing, which I knew none of this. Thanks, Jesus!
That was super helpful! I have a client right now asking to size up a file to print, and I think this will do what he's asking for. My preference is to print the exact file size, especially in a large print. But I just tried it on the file, and it looks pretty darn good. Thank you so very much!!
I'm assuming that you are asking for a Photo? Or what to use instead of the AI-Assisted Upscale? If so, I think "Bicubic Smoother" might be your only option. But check to see what else is available. CS6 is about 7 years old and I forgot what it has.
I have been using photoshop for years, always when I create, make changes or simply resizing, I felt like my body was knotting up through indecision or confusion, because I did not understand how these internal adjustments worked or how they were affecting the work proper. I really feel less stress with decision making now that I have some basic understanding on making changes and preservation of these files. You have saved my nails from being chewed away. :) Thanks very much!
Another topic - my Clone tool in Photoshop CC 2018 has gone crazy. instead of picking up a disk sample of the original image, it grabs splotches of color from nowhere and deposits those splotches in various colors on the destination point. OR, when using the same Option key to select part of an image, it grabs the whole image and won't let go, and it hovers over the destination image until I quit Photoshop. Furthermore, I could not find how to increase our decrease the size of the pickup area, as I can do with other tools like a paint brush brush. And the same thing happens when I transfer the document to a different computer. Can you fix this? (Adobe Help is difficult to find.)
Very good! I was confused about this but I understand now! I am a digital creator and use all sizes of vintage images in my creations, so I am constantly enlarging mostly. Thanks for sharing this! ~ Deb
Your tutorial was very helpful, but I'm still a bit confused as I am new to PhotoShop. I sell photo prints and photo products on line and one of my sales sites requires a minimum pixel size of 6500x6500px. for each photo I download. Do you have a different video that demonstrates resizing smaller pixel images (let's say 2000x2000px to extremely large pixels, i.e., 6500+ pixels?
I have a question of general nature (for which I can find no answers in the web). Is there any way of making the ruler scales at the top and left-hand-side brigher or more visible. Thanks for your help.
Excellent thanks Jesus >> many of the facebook images I posted I can not find back to the big psd files. So I am faced with images about 250kb to enlearge . This menu under Resample will help me a lot. paul scott NZ
