I have a whole japanese sleeve with these waves and hannya mask and koi fish and cherry blossoms never thought i would want to get into drawing this video helped alot thank you !
Thank you so much! Just getting back into doing some small art pieces and this was amazing at helping me understand how these work. Even though they look simple it’s difficult for me to accomplish something that looks even partially correct. Thank you again.
Just found your channel and its fantastic. I've been really trying to get my head around doing japanese water / waves, this vid has helped me immensely. Cheers bro👍
Always been struggeling with fingerwaves, not so much the wave itself but the direction and the flow. Another thing that's a struggle and this may sound strange is the water pen. With slightly larger area's i can't get the fade equaly on paper. Been using Fabriano Cold pressed, hot pressed not available for the longest time here and also been using Ecoline paper from the same brand as the markers. 24 x 32 cm - 300 g/m2, 140 lbs. It tends to get kinda messy. And no i'm not squeezing the water pen :-) Anyway thanks for the vid, great job as always.
Yeah the direction and flow is certainly a difficult part to get, possibly wasn’t best explained in this video but its something that comes from practice and is the harder part to do. Even i struggle with it at times. Sounds like you’re on the money with the papers and medium you’re using man. Getting the smooth blend in a large area can be really difficult and sometimes my blends aren’t all that smooth. My advice for that is 1. Close up those blending areas and make more tight spots to blend in and out off, breaking it up gives you smaller areas to blend and less likely to get uneven blends. 2. Don’t stress 😅art isn’t about being perfect, do the best you can each day and it will keep gettin better, but either way hand made art always looks better 🤙🏼 thanks for watching man and keep it up
Hey Amelie 😁 thanks for stopping by I use liquitex acrylic inks for painting flash. i believe in this video I used Ecoline markers and a brush pen 😁 hope this helps
Hi bro, started watching your videos, learning to draw. Could you make a video about what you use in different jobs and where you can buy the same. The whole arsenal, so to speak :D
Thank U soo very much fo All Ur Awesome videos👌👍... years ago, watched a Japanese Wave Tutorial by Jeff Gogue... i can make them fingers waves pop out frm anywhere but can't connect them... my Flow is Shitty than shittiest Shittt!!! Hahaaa but i Hope the info frm Ur tutorials & my Persistence will pay off soon... Wish U the Very Best fo Ur upcoming Projects🤙🤘
Hey man thanks so much for your kind words! Keep practicing your finger waves and keep a close eye on the way that I do them and others do theirs, you’ll get it in no time 😁🤙🏼
This kind of wave is actually originally from Mainland China. During the Song dynasty, the artist Ma Yuan is well-known for drawing different kinds of Water waves. Water Album is one of his best drawing collections. So technically this is Chinese wave.
Good to know, thanks Brandee. Commonly used throughout Japanese tattooing and illustration, though China and Japan share a lot of commonality in the art
Not too sure what they represent, i tend to have them follow my background for the most part. However if I want a more chaotic feel to the illustration i’ll do them in all different directions.
