Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:

** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

@Jerome b williams Its interesting when you start going for more concentrated stuff as chocolate, cigars, honey, whisky, etc, when you go into less flavorate things it tastes and feels as nothing. Good for begginers tho, start with the less, as so you can enjoy later more the sophisticated ones.

G'Day Daniel and Rex. I discovered your Channel through The Modern Rogue but it was Daniel's magnificent beard and freakishly extensive Whisk(e)y knowledge had kept me coming back. I love the Whisk(e)y facts almost as much as Rex mooching your drink when you turn away. This has happened on at least three occasions. I"m 18 years old (which is the legal age to drink in Australia) and I have recently completed my RSA Responsible Service of Alcohol. This allows me to legally serve people alcohol. Your explanations of how Whisk(e)y is classified has been a big help as i have recently applied for a Job at a local Club. Keep up the excellent work, you've got yourself a life long fan.

I never learned to appreciate whiskey until recently and almost age 65. I drank my share of JD and WT 40 years ago but never appreciated them. Bought a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter cask last week after watching one of your reviews. Almost spit out the first sip it was so unfamiliar. I won't say bad. but the second sip was different. Not good but not bad. After third sip I started to fall in love. Thank you for making the rest of my life much more enjoyable! I think my wife has a crush on Daniel.

I am a total beginner and my father showed me my first whisky. Laphroaig 10. Somehow, I hated it and I loved it the same time. The first few scotches I tasted were the very smokey ones. I bought myself a bottle of Michter's Unblended American Whiskey from this video, and I have to say I'm absolutely astounded. It's become my consistent go-to when sharing a whiskey neat with a friend/guest. I'm also not a smoke snob, I can enjoy a whisky on the mellow, or sweet side. I just think there is far better Scotch at similar price points available (atleast everywhere I've been). I'd make an argument for Knob Creek, Single Barrel for bang for your buck. If you factor in Taste, availability, typical price, and strength. Don't need much of it to get you going, taste deceptively good for the alchohol content, you can find it just about anywhere (in the US) and it's usually not to pricey 30-50 range most places I've been

I'm an American living in the Philippines and it's likely in the running for the best place on the planet to become an alcoholic :-) Johnnie Walker sets the stage here with the Black Label being probably the best deal going at only about $19 a liter; Double Black is about $10 more per liter. Gold Label Reserve is about $25/750ml. The Green Label is about $39/750ml. And the Platinum Label is about $59/750ml. I don't know how that's even possible. But if they're counterfeit then someone is doing a damn good job. For mixing, I've seen the Red Label for as low as $10 a liter. But the Philippines has a decent 5-year-old 80 proof whiskey (White Castle) that works great for that at less than $5 for a 750ml bottle. Glenlivet 12 is about $32/750ml, Glenfiddich 12 a couple of Dollars more. Maker's Mark is about $16.50 for a 750ml bottle. Bulleit is about $28 for a liter. Monkey Shoulder is about $32 for a 750ml bottle, 40% ABV.

Single malt Scotch just has so much more refinement and complexity than bourbon. It's usually more expensive too. I agree with Rex that there's a lot of potential for used-barrel-aged bourbon like the Michters. Also the use of spent wine casks for aging bourbon, as some scotches like Macallan use is a big area for development.
@justinafuchs2619
@justinafuchs2619 Год назад
“Single Malt Scotch just has so much more refinement and complexity than Bourbon” - That’s such a general assessment, it’s almost useless. It might be your personal preference, but that doesn’t mean it’s a fact. I know many great, complex Bourbon and many boring one-dimensional Single Malts. And I don’t think your other claim is true, the prices for Bourbon have exploded due to the Bourbon boom.

I'm a fan of the Kirkland Signature bourbon from Costco. It's a sour mash base, small batch bourbon. They age it for 7 years, and it's a whopping 103 proof bourbon. But for as much as it has in it, it's incredibly smooth. I feel good cooking with it as well as using it for a simple sipping bourbon. It's about $30/L here in my area, so it doesn't break the bank by any stretch. It's a must-have in my bar, and one that I share with guests.

Like you guys mentioned, I think my local spot, here in MA, pays higher taxes and probably a few more dollars over the suggested MSRP than other places around the US.
