Good review. I just have had bad luck with temperature swings for on off thermostats. So I always go with dimming. If inkbird ever made a dimming , I would give it a try
I like the fact that it also has a cooling element. I have a mandarin rat snake and a Thai bamboo rat snake that don’t need heat but sometimes they could use a cooling element in the summer. And don’t worry about taking a while to get to the review this has been a crappy year in so many ways. My friend says that “2020 “is the new four letter curse word😜
Totally the new curse word. In some ways its been a great year and in many ways the worse ever. Crazy extremes around here and for many folks it seems. :-)
One of my aquariums is heated by an old Arcadia 300w heater that's been running 24 hours a day for the last 16 years, they don't make em like that anymore.
Say I have it set to be 34 degrees Celsius (93.2F) what temp will the alarm go off? 2 degrees above or below the set temp or is it less or more? For instance one of mine goes off when it exceeds 5 degrees above or below.
What does the inkbird do if the probe fails? Can it stick in the ON position upon malfunction? Keep in mind my question isn’t about them working for 5 years without an issue....my question is upon encountering an issue what is their failsafe circuitry designed to do? I’ve asked them directly in the past and got a very less than appropriate response ......I didn’t have to ask my fancy brand thermo because it tells me right in the instructions.
They have alarms so the probe would either not read and a low alarm goes off or read too much and the high alarm goes off. But no device and no feature is above failure including those fancy brand failsafe feature which failed for me. I never trust one device. I have battery operated Lacross Thermometers (they send alerts when temps fall out of range) monitoring every heat element. Fire and heat are no joke.
ha! Yes there are a few types actually. Proportional stats come in pulse and dimming types as well. One sends little bursts of power to reach the correct temps and the other is basically a dimmer adjusting the amount of power through to reach the desired temp. Dimmer stats are best for lighted heat sources.
I am so confused on how to use a thermostat with a timer. I would like to add a timer element to this to turn that upper heat lamp off at night. It seems that if the timer is plugged in first then the thermostat is also shut off at night which will reset it. If the thermostat is plugged in first then the timer looses power of the thermostat is triggered to shut the heat off :( Also to add a che to that puzzle makes it even more difficult. Am I missing something?
