Wow, once again I learned something new. I am an experienced lifter… I would consider myself advanced intermediate. I know waaaaay more than anyone else i know about lifting and manipulating your body. I have been doing my heavier 5x5 training in a bulk and my higher reps in a cut. Mind Pump = Mind Blown. I can’t wait to try this with your guidance. Thank you for all the knowledge.
Recovering Bulker of 9 years, following your guys overall advice has done more for me in 2 months than what I've tried for the past 3 years. Wish I found you guys sooner
You guys rock!👍 My wife and I love your RU-vid videos! We watch them every morning while doing our cardio on the spin bike. We have gained so much motivation and discipline in the last 7 months from you guys while doing a transformation training programme. I lost 17 kg during that time and now I want to build muscle, gain more strength and also loose a bit more weight 💪. Thank you for sharing exercise information in a fun and very informative manner. Keep up the good work! ❤
Thanks MP ! This is so relevant for me.. I just met with a personal trainer. He reviewed my goals and diet. I was keto for 7 years and lost all my weight but lots of muscle too (850- 1100 calories and 35-50 grams of protein day.. he immediately increased my calories and protein .. so scared I’m going to gain a huge amount of weight back. I’ve packed away my scale and trying to trust the process.. BTW the trainer is a huge fan of Mind Pump!
The sneaky pick ….. gold ….very funny The whole cut & bulk just freaks me out ,,,, I’m probably not there yet , I’m still trying to get my program fully dialled in , I’m currently trying to focus on doing different excercises that focus on minor body parts , love the show. Dudes rock on 🇮🇪 Ireland mind pumper
Currently cutting to set up for the first bulk I’ve done in years. I’ve mainly done CrossFit and endurance training over the last 3-45 years, but now I miss bodybuilding too much. Currently running programs I’ve written myself with hopes of maybe getting on stage one day. Trying to still maintain conditioning also as I’m a police officer.
One day I’ll be able to look down and see my feet instead of my gut and it will be because of you all. Thank you guys for putting out honest information.
Found your channels a month ago and I'm listening nonstop these days! Such great info!! I'd really love a chance at one of your programs to see the impact it could have ❤
Shorter rest periods, high rep workouts with short rest periods is still the default unfortunately. Losing strength and muscle is often accelerated way more than it would be otherwise. Always great information guys!!
Just found you guys going back over lots of your streams. It all makes sense to me and I have really changed the way I think. I would love to win your maps anabolic 🎉😊
I need to put some of my clients on the maps anabolic ! Get crunk with it. Ppl tend to take the novelty thing too far to the extreme as well . Especially with the foolishness they see on social media
27:55 that's exactly the mistake I made during my first cut. Dropped calories but still chased PRs. Ended up with an injury and on the sofa for a week.
Thanks for the rep range insight! Been working out steadily for a couple years now and always thought higher reps and slowly adding weight would help me burn fat and gain more muscle but never thought about lowering the rep range. Gonna give it a go the next month and see what happens. Thanks fellas! 🫡
A lot of this doesn't totally mesh with what I've been learning in class. With all weight loss/gain there will be some fat and muscle involved. I think a lot of people do themselves a disservice going through this cycle (likely not doing it properly) when a progressive overload program would lead to superior outcomes. Extreme weight fluctuations and unhealthy body composition can have long-term and even dire consequences.
I think I heard this episode over 5 times! I just got back to working out a little over a month ago after almost 3 years of fighting depression, anxiety, menopause and this advice was much much needed to also kind of tune out all the bad, unwanted advice out here 😂
Lower reps when cutting is an absolute mindblown moment for me. I see the logic and I love Adam's explanation, but a part of me is kind of rebelling at the idea. Just goes to show how much the whole high rep/lightweight = cutting idea has wormed its way so deep into our psyche. I've just begun phase 1 of MAPS Aesthetic after finishing MAPS Strong (which I really adored btw) and I was thinking about going on a mini-cut since Strong gave me the confidence to bulk for the first time in my fitness journey. Your video couldn't have come at a beter time since I was already planning to do the cut during phase 3; now I know it's the best time to do it this week! What amazing timing, guys. Thanks so much
FINALLY!!! the best answer and deep dive into this issue! the novelty concept, and high/low reps comparing regarding the cut/bulk phase, so true! i heard a few weeks ago on one of your podcast that you preffer the low rep during a cut and to present a novelty, so i did that 2-3 weeks ago in the middle of my cut and the change is so amazing! thank you for all this info and knowledge you present to us, and in such a great way. highly appreciate!!
❤❤it's the baby for me. I am so happy you all did this episode. I will be going on a cut in March to prepare for my wedding. Currently reverse dieting at the moment to gain muscle before the cut (per mindpump advise) mom of 4 on my sons account. One of the best episodes for sure ❤
Sal’s son stole the show! ❤ Also thank you guys for this! I was getting confused on how to lift weights while cutting and then bam 💥 this episode pops up! Thank you guys this really means a lot to me 😌
@@WhiskeyRiver0 i did the same anabolic during the cold months and did aesthetic this summer. definitely recommend aesthetic although phase 3 has a lot of volume for a cut and I changed it up a bit to suit me better
You're changing lives!! Massive respect for your effort to share this information. Keep going strong you guys!💪🏽👊🏽 Can't wait to try out one of your training programs! 🙏🏽
Sal, I’m 73. Have just started to work out doing full body workouts. This is after many years of doing nothing but cardio. I’m doing machines and dumbbells. I’m afraid of doing the major movements- bench, squats, press, deadlifts- for fear that my joints can’t handle the stress. I haven’t done the major exercises since my 30’s. I’ve lost a lot of muscle and my goal is to put some muscle back on and drop some weight. Can you give me some advice on if I should stick with machines and dumbbells or do the major movements. Thank you.
Thanks to you guys for switching my mindset away from that number on the scale! I love the message you give to women especially to steer away from cardio for fat loss.
Cutting and bulking muscle hypertrophy exercises and rep ranges are the same . JUST NUTRITION IS THE DIFFERENCE ( TRAINING TO FAILURE OR CLOSE TO FAILURE WILL BUILD AND PRESERVE MUSCLE MASS) . high reps on cut IS BULLSHIT and makes no sense .
I’m 33 years old 271 pounds with high 30 percent body fat. I have no real muscle mass and I’m looking to start training. Black Friday is here so I’m looking to grab a program to body recomp. Looking to do the 3 day per week full body split and just don’t know which program that is best for me. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Loving this content. Everything you’re speaking about recently is what I’m trying to achieve, which is to transform my body at middle age, which is not simple. Working on losing about 80 lbs and have lost about 25 so far.
Love this. Brand new to lifting in the last 3 months and this has been sooooo helpful!! Listening to all these podcasts every day. PICK ME FOR THE Anabolic PRIZE!!! WOMEN AND STRENGTH TRAINING! #forgetcardio
I am had a hard time concentrating in this AMAZING subject after the “bugger picker” 😂😂😂 half time Super Bowl shows got nothing on this half time 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤ bello ese bebé ❤
Im in the situation that im still stuck in 67kg but im eating much.I eat a day, Carbs 240g, protein 220gram and fat around 65-75grams. Im 5,7 height, 67kg, 41yrs old and i workout 5-6/week. I have seen changes to my body because im always been a skinny fat guy. My weight been the same since 4months.. I only eat natural foods. Do I have to increase my fat volume?
I'm an intermediate female lifter currently on a bulk and would like to jump on a MAPS program. I do have some muscle imbalances (left shoulder weaker than right). Would MAPS Symmetry be good, and then for a cut, MAPS Anabolic ? You guys are awesome - thank you!
I’ve been combining 2 compound wkouts and a kettle bell circuit. Been feeling great, healthy, agile and really muscular…..but long term, am I setting myself up for failure?
I am currently training for my first marathon. I strength training 3 days and running 3 days. I don't want to lose some of gains. I'm 40 yrs old 6ft 200lbs. What advice do you have?
Didn't one of you talk about a statistic showing how the amount of work it takes to maintain muscle is about 1/7 the qork ot took to build it? So if someone wants to lose fat and not muscle, would it not make sense to 1. Obviously cut your calories. 2. Maintain / increase the ratio of your protein in your macro spread. 3. Workout at even ⅓ of the intensity, maybe with one or two days where you push the intensity for the novelty. ??? Because if the goal of a cut is to lose fat while not losing muscle, and if the statistic is true about only needing 1/7 the intensity and volume to maintain muscle once you have it, then it would make sense to to do this, right? Lowest input, highest output? Am I missing some variables here??
I don’t know if you guys have done a video on how your mental state affects your training but if you haven’t you should. I’m a marine vet that struggles with depression and ptsd and it messes with my training all the time
Just finished my first three week bulk/10 day cut, and starting up again to bulk through the holiday season. My intent is to use the discipline of 3x/wk lifting and 1x/wk Pilates plus the extra calories from holiday events to build muscle. 💪🏻
Great way to look at a bulking phase when gaining the extra pounds messes with your head. Mahalo for your wonderful content!! Love listening to MP while I’m starting my day and would love to win the free program 🎉🌴
The kids reminded me of my boys when they were little. I would try to eat and they would always come sit on my lap even though they were eating and sitting on their own chair.
From this episode I learned that for Bulking and Cutting, you have to prioritize protein intake to gain or maintain muscle. Thank you for this knowledge
This is great, been cutting on phase 3 of aesthetic and felt I had to lower some of the volume cause I was feeling cooked afterwards. I'll definitely try the low reps on a cut next time 👍
As usual you guys deliver quality content and it helps because I’m just starting to workout after a 5 year layoff and I’m from the over training era. I do have a question. What’s the best way to track burned calories? It’s really difficult for me to track daily I have a service job so some days are more active than others…
