I love my crypts. I grow them in 6 inch pond baskets to contain their growth. Recently an 8 inch pond basket of crypts covered the surface of a 24 inch tall aquarium blocking the light to my anubias. I gave the crypt basket a "hair cut" down to 1 inch recently. After 30 days it is an 8 inch show piece basket once again.
Hey John, Once they establish, crypts are a joy to have, and the many different colour variations and leaf types means a combination is the way to go. Move them into a different tank and sometimes they "melt" but just be patient :)
Indeed I have had my share with both normal duck weed and Giant duckweed, I think the disadvantages outweighs the advantages, some plants on your list are never seen locally here in Jamaica, wish they were, but on the other hand, probably they would be so expensive, i wouldn't be able to afford them anyway. I like your informative summative look on the topic of aquarium plants, indeed some plants are too delicate to be used in some aquariums with particular fish species. Loving your aquarium look, i see you have done a few shifting and clipping... nicely done my dear friend and brotha, Irie from Jamaica
Expect somewhat similar things from Anubias which are mass produced from farms via emersed growth. They would look HUGE when being sold. I got a buying impulse and bought a good amount of them. Most of them got the Anubias melt and I was left with the smallest amount of rhizomes, something like two nodes connected by an internode. The few rhizomes did get better later but grew into the smaller submerged versions. I'd suggest not to be fooled by the out-of-water size and go for the ones grown in tissue cultures or underwater. I saw a lot of these huge Anubias this past year (2021) being sold and suddenly they're gone. Maybe, other people had the same experience and just stopped buying them.
@@AussieAquatic thanks, but the Anubias that I always show aren't the ones I had told about. Those bunch did suffer Anubias rot twice tho so they are survivors too. Both instances of rots happened after the introduction of new emersed Anubias.
Had the same experience with anubias. The leaves slowly died off to the point where I was ready to bin it. Fortunately I left it a little while longer now it is going great. The retailers should really be explaining this when you buy the plant.
