I've had my Giulia Veloce here in the US for nearly four years (2018) and it's been nothing but pure bliss. Zero issues. It's an incredible car and very well-built. If you're buying a car for it's window switches, stick to public transit lol.
Couldn't agree more. My Veloce is also from 2018 and it puts a smile on my face everytime I get to the wheel. Got exactly the same configuration as shown in the video by the way (body colour, calipers and wheels, simply gorgeous). Greetings to everybody from good old Belgium
@@guywerb Belgium isn't that old. It was created by the British in 1830 to act as a buffer state against any future French aggression. It's a completely artificial country, half French speaking and half Flemish. The worst bit is Brussels, now the capital of the German Fourth Reich.
I absolutely agree. I'm sure you will have all the fun in the world. I got mine in 2018, 75000 km, no issues whatsoever, I almost forgot where I bought it... ;-) Mine is exactly that show in the video (but with a light brown interior, very classy). That configuration is a complete blast (I saw it on exhibition at the Brussels Car Show in 2018, fell in love with it right away). Wildly underrated that's for sure...
Hey. I am French and just bought a brand new car like yours in Panarea Grey. It was delivered last Thursday :) I hate dipping mirrors and my car had the auto hold hand brake factory standard. You can switch it on and off thru the menu ( at least in my 2021 model). Very good review indeed. Long life to Alfa Romeo...
Thanks for the review. I’d regard the ‘issues’ you raised as pretty minor, to be fair. None of these would detract from what is a top of its class drive. Alfa sticks to what it knows, and that is looks, handling/ride and that bit of exclusivity that you simply won’t get with the German marques.
I have owned my Giulia Veloce for a mere 3 months but can honestly say I don't experience the wind noise, in fact its been noticeably quieter than my previous VW Arteon and rides like you said better than I was expecting. Perhaps you need to get your dealer to check the seals or maybe I have just been lucky?. I agree on the unlock/lock beep which at 5am makes me cringe as I head to work....I'd love to know if it can be turned off. So far though I've been pleased with the car which was a gamble moving away from my previous German cars but no regrets at present and I like how few you see which makes it feel a touch special for something that was in my budget. I look forward to more of your reviews.
I've had this noise. There was a sligth clearance (1-2mm) between the 2 rubber sealing of the window (at the confluence of the lower horizontal one, and the upper one). It is located at the angle of the window which is close to the external mirror. I've put a small rubber part to avoir this clearance. It had worked, no more wind noise. Air was probably circulating in this clearance. So probably some Giulia suffers some ajustement problem.
I love mine, best car I’ve ever had. The alarm noise is a pain with an early morning starts for sure though. You cannot disable it apparently. You could on the Giulietta I think. Yet in Belgium for example it is disabled due to noise pollution regulations. It’s from the same parts bin as Ferrari as my mates 458 Spyder makes the identical irritating noise too. I wonder if Maserati’s do it?
@@thimon9998 Hi i would be really interested in photo of where and how did you put this rubber part. Is it possible to take a picture and upload it somewhere. Thanks
Great video. I wish the Giulia was in my scope. But I really hope you will do same kind of review with the Tonale when it's released. I really miss having an Alfa...I had a Mito & a Giulietta before. :)
I am the lucky owner of a Giulia Veloce Q2 for a month, following a Giulia Lusso 200 TB since End 2016. I don't agree with the wind noise (none of the 2) but fully agree with the good marks on comfort, handling and engine (which could however be more 'demonstrative', especially in dynamic mode). The workaround for auto dipping wing mirrors is smart, I did this in my previous Giulia as well. I don't understand the point concerning the hill holder, which works very well in my car. There are very few missing equipments, (head up display?) and this car is a delight to drive, for short trips or long journeys, I am sure it will over the years become a collector.
We've had this and a Stelvio for about 6 months and love both, but your review is spot on. The levels of refinement are great, except for the wind noise around the mirror. I've grown to like the unlock beep, but it could do with an auto-hold.
Exteriorwise exactly my car (brown leather instead and with the Performance pack, the one-button softening of the suspension definitely adds to the confort on wobbly roads). Completely in love with it since 2018 (75000 km without a single issue by the way, I hardly remember where I bought it... :-D ). Ugely underrated car, which is really a shame for everyone having worked on the design and develpment of this masterpiece honestly. You can't change the way people think about brands... and politicians, I guess. Greetings from Luxemburg P.S. The infotainment is admittedly a complete nightmare, although the HK sound system does a really fine job.
I’ve got a 19 Giulia Ti Lusso and the wind noise doesn’t bother me unless I’m driving without music or a podcast on which is usually on 99% of the time. I am jealous of the console fit and finish and infotainment upgrades from the 2020+ refresh but I’m also happy that I have one of the handful or rare Monza Red Ti Lusso Giulias with the Light Walnut Wood Interior, Crema interior, Yellow calipers, and Active Suspension features all of which are no longer offered on newer Giulias.
My 2018 Giulia Ti Sport (USA model same as Veloce in UK) has only one of the 4 things you don’t like, the mirrors don’t change angle in reverse. No wind noise, GPS and Google Maps work fine, no beeping noises. I have 28,000 miles on it and all is good!
…right on with the wind, although my concerto starts way above 80mph. The rear mirror dip is a feature not a bug in my opinion. I found it annoying on my BMs that reverse was auto down! Never heard a beep (Veloce 2020, Q4 aut shift, great pedals, 20.000 miles). Don‘t miss a stick shift. With THAT ZF transmission and the pedals a stick doesn‘t stand a chance in agility and feel!
Same as others said - not only that I think it’s exceptionally quiet as far as wind noise but it’s far better than 3series I had regretfully prior to owning mine 2019 Veloce. I feel a lot of it comes from the mirrors and Guilia has really well design while Beamer has bigger boxier side mirrors. Maybe you do have some issues with the seals. My only complaint is actually lack of compliance over bad roads that we have here in the northeast US .. and I do have the active suspension which I ride mostly in soft mode.
I have a 2018 Stelvio in the US, and I can confirm the wind noise is also present in it, so it seems an issue that Alfa have not fixed in 4+ years. I've learned to ignore it, so it doesn't bother me anymore.
I didn't like the unlocking sound till I needed to lock the doors at the gas station near the highway. And when it's noisy, and you want to make sure that you've locked the cars properly, because you may miss the light blinking, this annoying sound does help to understand if it worked. Nevertheless forums say that this feature can be disabled by the dealer.
I bought a brand new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrofolio back in 2016, still have it!! Yes it does emit a VERY loud beep when locking and unlocking the doors and yes it is annoying! Secondly, it was only a couple of months ago that I realised that the car DID actually have automatic brakes when doing a hill start!! A bit pathetic on my part I admit after six years!!😂😂 Other than that it has NEVER missed a beat after 32k miles. Now looking at the new Tonale!😁
I own a 2020 Facelift Giulia Veloce. Great car. Only two things have gone wrong. Front indicators and daytime running lights failed after I drove through a slightly flooded road last Christmas. Cost nearly 800 quid to replace the two ECUs. New headlight units would have cost double that. Second issue concerns the front inner wheel arch linings which are made of crap and are separating from the bodywork. I'll need to replace them but overall it is a great car.
This is the best car on its segment. The disadvantages you present are really non significant at all. You pay to have the best road experience among all the established german cars. Good review and presice on the driving bit.
I have a BMW 320d G20 and I can tell you about wind noise coming from the mirrors. Also less refinement in the doors storage pocket (Alfa have a soft material). I am waiting for the Giulia's facelift to replace my BMW.
I have a 2020 Giulia , no wind noise , it feels light ,fast ,economical , and no faults so far ! I hate dipping side mirrors , these are first world issues , get a life , love your car !
I've had my veloce for 3 years now and love it although it's about to move on sadly. Bar some annoyances with the heated rear window not always working (battery charge issue) its been faultless.
I believe the beep can be disabled by the dealership. The beep helps here in south africa where remote jamming and car hijacking is problem. Just an easy way to confirm your car is locked before leaving.
You should definitely look at a Carly or Carista OBDII plug in diagnostic tool, you can automatically set things like dipping mirrors without having to press the memory seat position, not a big deal but some extra convenience, you can also turn off the unlock and lock with beeping so that whiny noise goes away. There are also lots of other things you can do with it but it would for sure deal with some of your issues here.
The lock/unlock beep is very loud! I think all Alfas have it - my Brera did but luckily there was a way that owners could programme to remove with some bizarre sequence of foglight buttons/flashing lights. I think on the newer models there's no way for a DIY fix.
most products from FCA have that beeping sound for the alarm ....most dealers will tell you that it cant be turned off but it can ..... a good diagnostics program like MES can turn those off ...... the mirror dip surprises me because both my Mito and my 159 do it ....... again maybe a coding thing
Picking my 2019 veloce up today. Trading in my 12 year old Giulietta Cloverleaf that has done 108,000 miles. Never missed a beat and never had a problem. The Giulia was so good to drive on the test drive that I had to have it. Only £276 here in the UK a month on PCP once I traded my cloverleaf in for £4k. Bargain for such a car that has only 17,000 miles on the clock.
@@kierantardivel7888 really well. No issues whatsoever. Used every day. Even manage to hit 49mpg on motorway miles in the Normal driving option. But great fun in dynamic mode. Really happy I chose it.
@@kierantardivel7888 it does indeed come with both. I use android and it works really well. I also have a load of lossless audio tracks on a usb that I normally leave plugged in just in front of the gear stick.
I regards to the locking/unlocking high pitch sound; I didn't even know that was a thing. I have a '17 model though....and I'm also in America. I'm not sure if that plays a part at all :/
I have an Alfa Giulia 2017 2.0 T. Last year the car went to the garage for more than 2 months and a half. Radiator seal, Turbo seal, seal between the engine and the transmission was gone, water pump changed and many more things followed. At that that time i just had a message to change the engine oil, but it turns out to be a 10 000$ repair. So if you own a giulia, better check the engine bay every week! Check for leaks or anything that can look suspicious. Other than that, i still love the car, the handling is marvellous 😊
Great review, real experience shared. Agree with most, except the wind noise - which I don't get at all - and the ride quality. Mine is a MY20 Veloce on 19"petal alloys and Pirelli runflats. The suspension is great on bigger bumps but never really settles on small road imperfections, not even on motorway. I hear it's mostly down to the runflats but I assume the test car must have the same. Actually one more negative, the brake-by-wire system, very difficult to stop gently even after a year's ownership
I've just bought a Veloce TI Q2, will you compare the Q2 you have with the differnce of the Q4? In terms of performnce, weight pros and cons of the difference. Will you also check the difference between the ordinary Veloce with the Veloce TI? Best regards!! Good videos!
From time to time my 2018 Stelvio will randomly play music while locked and off. Also my passenger seat switches will work then suddenly stop working until the next time I drive it.
I have a 2019 Gulia Ti Sport. Almost the same as Veloce. But its American. I love it. I am considering getting Veloce Ti in few months when Ti Sport lease ends. Does need more power! Really the car should have V-6 with 330hp and 340 lb of torque. Tran should be a double clutch . Alfa has best seats I ever experienced. Yes the NAV system sucks. But thats OK.
I have a 2022 Veloce and I love it! I never once thought it was underpowered. It will do 150 mph and get there with authority. I understand that you can tune this car to produce quite a bit more power but I'm sure I don't need it on the road. Alfa are known for driving dynamics and that's what this car does so, so well. You will like the new infotainment system, it's pretty good.
@@stevenwalk8564 On dyno at two shops, my particular 2019 TI Sport registered between 300 and 305 HP and 311 foot lb. of torque. Exceeding manufacturer claim of 280. The Gulia is much lighter then my previous BMW 335IX which had 335hp inline 6 with two stage turbochargers. Yet Gulia is quicker, lighter, and more responsive then 335IX ever was. I will stick to my guns and delare that Veloce and TI trims need an Alfa V6 or factory tuned current I4 to up game to 335-350 hp. What Alfa I4 lacks is SOUND. It sounds weak, until it is in 5-5.5K power band. THey need to tune exaust note before shipping. I lease, so I cannot mod the car. If Guilia Veloce can sound like 4C , that would be awesome. Infotainment is clearly superior in BMW then in Alfa, which shares its infotainment with Maserati, Ferrari, Fiat, and Chrysler. Its sucks in all those marks. It is always one or two blocks behind me in city, and has insufficient zoom out. Bluetooth is iffy. In BMW and Porsche, infotainment satnav is just phenomenal. But that is of little importance to me. I'd still take Alfa over BMW 3 series 6 days a week and twice on Sunday.
Depends on the alarm they used, it has nothing to do with the car. Mine came without an alarm, so I installed an aftermarket one + interior movement sensors. Works just like any alarm with no weird noises.
Great workaround on the lack of auto dipping wing mirrors - Thanks! I have the exact same Veloce as this (2021) - and I am disappointed in the lack of auto dipped beam headlights - unless I am missing something?
Hi Christian, ours has auto high beam fitted. The only option pack is on the car is Driver Assistance Pack so it may be something that is included in that…
I get 26 or 27 mpg, on permanent sport mode though, I'm also getting through half a litre of oil after say 4k, I am doing spirited driving on a regular basis. Anyone else using oil?
The most annoying part of the car? The drivers seat moves fully back if the engine is shut off and the drivers door opened... Not caring about a person sitting behind you.... It doesn't even have an auto stop feature if something blocks the seat. That is realy a nono, something someone clearly did not think about. And in the early cars you cannot even turn off the "easy entry" function. Other than that. This car is so great. I always look at mine after parking.... And sometimes the song Robin gibb comes to mind.... 🙈
That’s hill-hold assist (or named similar) - and it’s no doubt very helpful. We’re referring to a function whereby the brakes are kept on at traffic lights for an extended period of time without having to hold the pedal or flick the handbrake switch.
Regarding the alarm shrill, it all depends on the alarm your dealership used, it has nothing to do with the car. Mine came without an alarm, so I installed an aftermarket one + interior movement sensors. Works just like any alarm with no weird noises.
The biggest fail is not offering a manual transmission for the 2.0 petrol. Tractor engine gets a manual, but the enthusiast engine does not. Hard fail. Yes, 2.9 gets it (and is a proper enthusiast model), but very few people will ever be able to own that one.
Seriously. No. Alfas last realy good manuals were back in the 156 days.... The later ones... GM derived had a realy poor shift feeling, unprecice, muddy. And in case of the F40, heavy. The AT8 with paddle shifters is BY Far the better option. I only miss a manual and the clutch between standstill and 3kph... And that is because I got one of the earlyer ones where the transmission is a tad slow in the first gear.
@@DashCamSerbia Good joke, I did own a modified 200sx, an Busso Alfa and a twin turbo Lancia delta.... I would consider myself a little car stupid. However I have to disagree, A bad transmission can really annoy. Don't believe me? Drive a current fiat tipo or a Fiat 500 mhd...
@@justacomment1657 No manual, means you might as well get an autonomous car. Press button - make car go. I've driven Yugo 45, where you don't even know in which gear you are. I would take such manual gearbox any time, over *any* automatic. Every time.
@@justacomment1657 My Fiat 500 has a very good 5 speed manual; smooth, quick, well-positioned lever, effective synchros. I wish first and second ratios were a little lower, but that's my only complaint.
What's everybodies experience with going slow on full lock in their giulias? I'm driving a 20 plate veloce ti & it seems when I'm maneuvering at slow speeds on full lock my car bumps about like somethings knocking, should I be worried 🤣 it's still under warranty but my nearest garage is like 30 miles away I can't really be bothered to make the journey if it's nothing to worry about aahaha
We’ve heard of Giulia QV owners reporting this. In all likelihood it’s normal and down to the aggressive suspension setup, but if you’re unsure then don’t hesitate to take it to the dealership. Your car will still be under warranty.
Hi I have one of these as hire car through my insurance it’s the 2022 version I am Audi driver but this car wit what it drives like also as on it it it’s is up their with the rest .
@@ParkersTV wow ! I bought a used approved ( 20,000) miles and I'm getting very low numbers. In D mode ( 13 mpg ) and in A mode ( 25 mpg). Think I need to visit a garage 🙃. Thank you appreciate your reply.
If you think you're waking up your neighbors now just wait until it rains a little more than lightly and your alarm has a tantrum. I guess they might have fixed that by now
I've been driving Japanese cars for a long time now and I'm ready to switch to European cars. Giulia is one of the cars I'm really wanting to own one but I'm not sure to get it because there's a lot negative reviews. Anyone have any advice for my first Giulia purchase? Thank you everyone in advance!
I'm with you in regard to all the negativity on the reliability of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce and also considering it. I'm also considering the Jaguar XF, which also has a lot of negativities on its reliability as well. Both are beautiful cars though.
@@Psychguy00 Sorry for the confusion. I’m also considering the Alfa Romeo Giulia or the Jaguar XF. I don’t own one yet though. Not sure though because of the reliability issues with both.
Nope!! You cannot turn off, or even turn down that very loud and very irritating beep that sounds every time you lock and unlock the car!! In 2016 when I retired I treated myself to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrofolio and after my very first test drive I commented to the sales guy, 'jeeze, can that beep be turned down or preferably off!!' He laughed, 'everybody asks that, unfortunately no you can't!!' So there you go!😂😂
I guess you didn't get the memo. Run flat technology has evolved in the last twenty years and are now on par with none run flats. There is no need to ditch them.
What reputation? Sportiness is its main reputation. If you re thinking about reliabilty, that hasn t been an issue with Alfa in the past decade. Just check the Alfa consumer reports. Doesnt break down any more often than the germans. I ve had mine for 1.5 years and had zero issues. Sure, it isn t enough time to tell, but others had it for longer. As long as you take care of it, it will be reliable as any other.
@@manganvbg90 so you base your decision on old cars which have nothing to do with what you would buy? Audi had reliabilty issues in thr 80s too, but no1 seems to complain.
I have to say I'm with him on this one. As it should be an option to turn off. As many vehicles all the way back to the early 2000s have the option. Even though they were cheap vehicles not even luxury brands. And it was a minor complaint that he is hoping the dealer can change. Also it's does not dies it, too.
I was in love with my Giulia and Alfa Romeo as a brand, however, I will never again buy/recommend another Alfa Romeo in my life. I had the brake by wire system fail on me and it caused me to crash and total the car. They sent someone from Bosch to diagnose the vehicle and in the charts it clearly showed that something malfunctioned (brakes were slammed 2 seconds before the impact at 40 MPH and it took more than 1.5 seconds for the speed to start going down.) Stellantis told me that they were not going to take responsibility for it and that I needed to have my insurance pay for the vehicle. Absolute garbage. I will never recommend this car brand to anyone again! Buy an AUDI, BMW or Mercedes instead.
Other brand's cars do not have brake by wire? It's a feature I really would like to avoid. I'm sorry for what happened to you, really ashaming for Alfa Romeo.
@@giorgio9824 There are still many that do not use that technology. It's best to stay away from cars that use electronic braking anyways, because we all know electronics aren't the most reliable at times. Thank you for showing sympathy and reading my post. God bless and stay safe out there!
The handbreak hold feature is included. Simply use the break button when still in drive (D), it will release as soon as you use the accelerator pedal. The alarm on/locked sound (beep) can be disabled. Mine is silent when locking it.
Hey Tim, we’re referring to auto hold which comes on without having to using the handbrake switch. Many cars have it but unfortunately the Giulia doesn’t! Suspect the beep can be disabled at a retailer, we’re going to try and get it done.
Are you guys referring to an auto-hill-hold feature of the handbrake? I remember to have it without doing anything. At my company site gate when I stop on a ramp to swipe my card, feet on the brakes it keeps holding the car when I release the brakes, until I step on the accelerator. It gives the same slight noise when I start off with the parking brakes, suggesting it's the same auto-release function
