Best & Worst Books of 2021 || Random Recommendations 

Hi Emily, I feel very silly typing this since we don’t know each other but this has been a challenging year for me (for a lot of people I guess) and your videos have brought me a lot of joy and were something to look forward to so I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for all that you do here on your channel, I really appreciate it. The "I'm not having kids because of these books" was definitely one of your most creative ideas this year to recommend books and has so much potential for other variations, we need a "I'm getting a cat because of these books" video 🐈

I think my FAVE this year was giving authors a last chance. In close second I loved when you read spoiler for DNFed books (that was so much fun!) and when you read multiple books from the same author (maybe because i love Matt Heig as well and was wondering if I should read his earlier work). I also really enjoy when you make a list of books that fall under the same "category" (like the ones that make you not wanna have kids xD )

I like the videos where you talk about the best/worst of a SPECIFIC thing. Example: Best/worst MAGICAL SCHOOLS That kind of stuff is cool. I'd like to see best/worst 'mentors' best/worst 'companion creatures or pets' best/worst 'etc' type stuff. It's possible that I'm TOO into Fantasy because people flying on giant crows seems so normal! haha Seeing (edit: multiple people!) think it's 'weird' seems so weird. Maybe reality and fantasy are blending in my mind. :D

I would love to see you dive more into the horror genre in a video! ❤️ I know mystery/thriller hasn’t been a hit but maybe horror will 😊 I love your “oddly specific” recommendations like the one “books that make me not want to have kids” 😂

I would like to see a video about "the most complicated plotline that's actually good." I have a hard time being surprised by most of the books I've picked up. I would love to know which books stumped everyone (not necessarily thrillers/mystery!) in this little booktuber community. I'm hungry for a real thinker. Hey Emily! I wanted to say, I have fallen out of love with booktube. But I still watch and love your videos and they always make me smile. Your content is always so much fun to watch. I remember when I first started watching your content years ago and I remember thinking, “see, men can’t say pretty girls don’t like sci-fi or fantasy because I’m looking at one.” Thank you for all that you do and can’t wait for next year’s content!

Video idea: "Which character am I in my favorite books": Do a mbti personality test before to find out yours and try to guess which character's personality type matches yours in your favorite books (all time or just on the go faves).

I’m so happy I found Becky Chambers, it was such a warm cozy book that made me smile. I’m also really happy to have started reading Octavia E Butler. They are quickly becoming my fav authors.

My favorite videos are the reading vlogs, especially when Steve and friends are visiting. They made the vibe even more cozy and wholesome 🥰 I also really like videos with very specific theme like I'll never have kids because of these books. They're hilarious! Please make more of them. Kindred was required reading for me when I was in high school (nyc) and I remember I could not put it down! I had a great teacher for guided discussion too. My high school was in a predominantly Black neighborhood but I agree I think its excellent and should be required reading for all high schools!!

I love your audiobook recommendation videos! Mostly because I like to have a physical book and audiobook going at the same time and it's hard to know what's going to be enjoyable to consume as an audiobook vs what works better as a physical book.

I read A psalm for the wild-built because of you and I absolutely loved it. It was so comforting and wholesome, yet reflective and made me think a little a bit about the world around us. Hands down one of the best books for me this year.

I'm just really happy that you post videos - whatever they are I will enjoy them. :) My favorite for this year was the Pride and Prejudice one because it made my friend and I realize we both "know" you and we also watched the movie and series on one sitting and it was a lot of fun. :) But that's because it has a story behind it and is special that way (although it's a great video as well). Honestly, our tastes in books differ quite a bit, but I always always love your way of speaking about books. I really don't mind if you hate the books I love. :D My favorite videos are the ones where you share both your thoughts on the books you've read and the whys behind the thoughts (ie. sharing a bit more about your inner world as well). I also loved the video where you talked about the Count of Monte-Cristo. It's on my list because of you and I have been reading it this year, but haven't yet finished it. I will continue to buddy-read it next year. :) The videos I would like to see... Just you talking about books (and a little bit about your life and the cats around you) with your (sometimes self-deprecating) humor at the center of everything. It would also be interesting to hear you compare similar books that you love and hate and why the one worked and the other didn't. Thank you for this year.

I read both the Kite Runner and The thousand splendid sun during high school and the one thing that I still remember is how Zaman is both in them and hes the guy in charge of the orphanage. What fascinated me the most about him is his name since in Arabic it means "time" (it could be age and era too but I live time more). I still think it's a really nice touch to both the stories.

As far as us choosing a video for next year: I would love to see an in depth, spoiler filled reading vlog for Punk 57, i feel like it would be hilarious to see you go through that 😁 And for a video you would actually enjoy, Stormlight archive reading vlogs when you continue with the series and definitely more sci fi reading vlogs/recommendation videos. 😊

It only partly responds to your question, but I would love to see a video about hopeful SFF. There's not much (such) content on the Internet -- I know because I looked it up repeatedly. The last two years have been hard on so many of us, and I believe we need more positive content (especially in the sci-fi world, which is often dark and pessimistic).

I really enjoyed my Dark Vanessa! It got me out of my slump, I just couldn't stop reading

A reading vlog on top 5 mystery thrillers on Goodreads might be a good idea. Also reading best and wors rated books you own on your shelves is always a fun concept. By the way, I'm shocked to see Flowers in the Attic here. I was traumatized by that book as a 12 years old girl years ago. The word part is my bff at the time gave the book to me as a birthday gift. she did me dirty. the friendship also didn't last anyways. lol.

My fav is when you rant about books, always love your "worst or best" anything video, it helps me to stay away from some books and got me purchased more and I'm sold with Becky Chambers by now, i order some, so thank you.

I'm surprised by Matt being the most annoying character in WOT as, though I found him irritating, I kept leaving the series to get away from Nynaeve, the worst person who isn't evil in any book I've ever read. What a childish, illogical, rude nightmare of a woman even at her best lol. Matt irritated me before becoming my favourite character, which reflects everyone I know's path through the series.
