I think the yellow jumpsuit would look cute with a white shirt under since it’s so light and airy. And the Tibi skirt would look nice with your hair up and with a pair of heels, especially pointy toed ones.
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Год назад
Oh yes absolutely!! The tibi skirt I think unfortunately has to go as it doesn't really zip up and is a size too small but that would also be a great pairing xx

I always enjoy how you break things down with such clarity, it's helps me to improve too. I was surprised you included the yellow jumpsuit in the "worst" category, as you've made so many awesome outfits with it on the channel! But I see how it is such a statement piece you might not reach for it as much. Also, seeing the Isabel Marant blazer side by side with Sezane's, maybe it's just me but have you noticed here at 17:22 that if you removed just the top button on each side of the IM's, that would drastically improve the boxyness and make it look more harmonious with your frame? It would give that wider lapel a longer line and an overall more relaxed feel to the blazer.

I was following a UK colour analyst on FB before covid. She always said that you can’t accurately analyse someone’s colour type virtually - she’d only do it in person (she was emphatic). When covid lockdown hit she changed her tune and started offering virtual analysis! I waited until lockdown lifted in Melbourne, then had an in person analysis done locally. So worthwhile 😊
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Год назад
So I did my first analysis in person - it was good but I wasn't loving the system and the range of colours offered to me weren't explained. I think I was given a book of 100 colours or so in a medium-dark palette with warm undertones and while it made sense I wanted more of an explanation. My second one was online, where I submitted around 30 photos, and the results came back confirming my first, but also going into a lot more depth on WHY certain muted colours work/don't work and why certain bright warm/cool tones might sometimes work too. So worthwhile, but imo finding the right person to do it is key :)

The black poufy skirt will be more on-trend this spring, based on the trend predictions I’ve seen. You might want to give it another try in a few months, we all need time to adjust to new silhouettes. It will be your autumn, so the black color might work well.

I sent the above before I heard you mention the sizing issue. You won’t wear it anyway if it’s too tight, I would sell it.

You always learn as you go! Reflecting over your wardrobe like this is a very good habit and helps you understand your style more, that's why I think I'll start doing this as well 😊 I usually try to reflect on why I have regretted some purchases over time and learning from it for future purchases: Colours, cuts, lengths, materials, details etc., but never looked back on an entire year so really single out only a few items. Right of the bat, though, I think some of my best purchases are the practical ones: raincoat, comfy heel boots, casual striped shirts, fun graphic t-shirts, drape pants that are comfy and easy to tend to - ie not the most "fun" and lux clothes that I've purchased since I'm more conscious and careful when wearing them.. I've also started investing in some 18k solid jewellery, which are mostly dainty pieces, but I've found myself the most drawn to those simpler ones over the bolder and heavier pieces I own 🙃

Always love your videos ❤ my best purchases were 5 medium weight knitted midi/maxi dresses all second hand. and warm tights to go with them. Finally accepted that I’m now living in a cold climate 😂 after 4 years of being in Scotland. Felt like it’s the only way to be warm and feminine at the same time. Oh and the worst purchase is a pair of shoes, I didn’t get why I don’t like them until I saw your shoe video. The rubber sole doesn’t extend beyond the toe box at the front so keeps getting scuffed…. Such a good tip!!

My best purchase last year was a deep blue pleated midi skirt from Reiss which I have worn loads and can be good in all seasons, worst would be a polyester puff sleeve top I got from hollister, the material was a mistake, and I bought something similar that’s more my style and a higher price point a couple of months later

Hey Helen! Thanks so much for your interesting purchase video. If I may share my thoughts on the yellow jumpsuit: Matching it with the dark green (quite formal) ruffled blouse looks a bit off to me. The jumpsuit is very casual (the linen like material, the color, the wide cut and buttons). It looks playful, sporty and relaxed. I would match it with a more casual and minimalistic top in a light color (a white t shirt or cream ruffled turtleneck maybe?). I would recommend shoes that are not too formal and dark. I am not sure if you can dress it up that much at all because of the overall design.
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Год назад
Thank you so much! I get what you mean, I've often styled it with a white t-shirt or top and it absolutely has that playful relaxed feel. It's cute but not something I've felt myself want to reach for a lot. I've been looking for ways to dress it up but you might be right in that it's just a very casual playful piece. So will reserve it for those casual days, and hopefully I get a little more wear from it. Thanks Eugene, insightful and I think you're right! x

I wonder where did you get the long baby blue skirt? It looks amazing. And also I agree with other people on the fact that you should try wearing the yellow jumpsuit with a cream or white blouse underneath (even a pastel blue). The Black top seemed too blocky around your face. It looked heavy in my opinion

Thank you :) Unfortunately no secrets haha. I never use the dryer, I always handwash anything that says dryclean, if anything shrinks I use conditioner to soak it and then reshape, I try to minimise how often I wash wool and use a freshening spray instead. I also wash things on a 30 degree cycle, most delicates go into a little washing bag - not sure if these are common/or random things I do haha.

I really like the Maje plaid trousers. Maybe you could take the fabric from the turnups and make belt loops? I think these would look great with any white top, the top doesn’t have to match the minor colors in the plaid, they’re so subtle that we can’t distinguish them on-screen. I love the pale blue silky skirt, is it silk? I don’t buy anything in synthetic-fiber fabrics any more, even in blends, I just can’t tolerate wearing them.

The reason you don't like the blazer are 1. It's double breasted and you prefer to wear it open, typically that is a single breasted blazer look 2. Aggressive shoulder pads that are pointy, you look better in softer rounded shapes like the puff sleeved black top 3. The lapels. The lapels are VERY angular and sharp. I wear pretty much only that lapel shape, but I like the very angular shape, it matches the shape of my jaw/chin. Your jaw/chin isn't the right shape for those lapels, yours is rounder and softer, which is why you like the much more subtle lapel shapes. The lapel shape will make or break the jacket, in addition to fabric, shoulder fit, and tailoring around the waist.

I have a hard time purchasing nice and expensive tops in polyester. The black wrap top is beautiful!! But I wonder why nice brands use cheaper materials (nylon. Poly. )
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Год назад
Me too to an extent. I used to and still dislike poly pieces. However, I've occasionally let myself (and I do mean very occasionally) purchase something made from a recycled synthetic just because I rarely find silk that has the weight and drape of synthetics. They're usually lighter/more fluid rather than heavy so something like the black blouse can drape more. That being said, I do try to go for viscose/eco vero instead.

Hi. Dont get me wrong,you are such a lovely woman. But have you considered to find out what color type are you? Because i have strong sense that you dont look good in high contrast colors (which you wear a lot - like black and white)and overall in all dark colors .you are looking great in soft pastels and mid tone colors, you absolutely glowing in them. Worst combo for you is all black/dark outfit or black upper,white bottom and black shoes🤦🏽‍♀️ which you wear the most. WHYY?? 😒
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Год назад
Oh haha, so I've been recommended high contrast because my skin is in high contrast to my hair. So in both my analysis, the recommendation is mid-dark colours, best if it's close to my face and then contrasting that for bottoms/accessories. Camera lighting can sometimes distort things but trust me, I look absolutely horrid in pastels and beige tones close to my skin irl :)
