YES! Without question, this session was BY FAR the best yellowfin croaker bite I have EVER had. The red and white 3/4oz casting jig was candy to these fish. They couldn't get enough of it!

Do you ever surf fish during the later morning/afternoon? I only have time during these hours and I was wondering if you had any suggestions where the beach isn't too crowded at that time during this time of the year....

Yes. Nothing changes. It's all about timing (tide, current, for example) and presentation. The same applies to fishing anywhere. Fish may bite in the mornign one week, but you could see the bite slow down as the week goes on when you're fishing at the same time every day. That could be because the tides are roughly an hour later each day and therefore the water level, waves, speed of current, location of bait fish are shifting with the conditions. So where you catch fish Sunday at 7am (for example) may not bite until 10 or 11am on Wednesday or Thursday. When you have moving water (ie ocean, rivers, streams, etc), conditions are different every day and you just have to anticipate that it's going to happen. During those late morning/early afternoon times before covid, there was NOBODY fishing. Post covid, there are a LOT more anglers out due to remote working ability, but there are PLENTY of places to fish EVERYWHERE during those times.

@@StartFishingToday wow, thanks for the thorough explanation!! I was also thinking in terms of how crowded the beaches were in the afternoons and if you knew stretches where less beach goers would be...

I’m confused how using very light weight to cast can produce fish. Are you launching this 3/4 oz weight way out there ?

It's a very specific combination of quality rod, reel, proper size line and lure. Tide, understanding/reading the conditions and knowing where fish SHOULD be is hugely important. When I fish, eat lure has a target fish. If I'm casting a casting a 1/2 - 1oz casting jig, I'm targeting croaker. If I'm casting a 3" swimbait, I'm targeting halibut (with perch and croaker as possibilities), if 4 - 4.5" jerkbait, primary is halibut, but perch and croaker will bite. I'll give each spot 10-15 minutes. If nothing, I move on. If the fish I'm targeting with a particular lure/jig don't bite right away, I move. I just have that much confidence in the lures and colors I'm throwing. If they're there, there gonna bite. Oh, and yes. I can launch the 3/4oz jig about 50yds with this particular PENN setup. I got it specifically for this fishing.

Am I just doing everything wrong ? Using heavier weights to cast out farther , 3oz dropper loop with 2 grubs , 2oz lead head with swim bait , 2-3oz jigs , 2.82oz jerk bait that is similar to a lucky craft but casts way farther , I cannot catch anything to save my life.

I cannot say whether you're doing everything wrong. That's not for me to determine. There are SOOO many factors that go into catching fish. If there's no bait in the water, you'll struggle locating/catching fish. If there is too much bait, fish are going to feed fast, furious, and then the bite is over. Time of year. Water temps. Current. Natural structure in the surf zone from waves and current. Basically, I was in your same position when I first started. Ffwd many years and 100's of 1,000s of cast later, I still get skunked, but it's a lot more seldom. You just figure it out over LONG periods of time fishing the same areas day in and day out. I'm fortunate to where I get to fish about 340 days per year. That is the BIGGEST part of my success.

@@StartFishingToday I’m originally from Catalina island so it’s been very difficult to adjust to fishing over here on the mainland lmao. Over there I could go to the rocks and throw whatever jigs and consistently get calicos and Bonita
