I just got the 3 bay version of this and was extremely disappointed. When you open the top bays they flop around so badly with so much side to side play. Not sure if they make them worse now or I just got a bad one.

To be fair though you aren't really paying the person Voice tools most of the time it's usually skill skill for example Why don't you give me the shittiest hammer on the shelf And it would be pretty damn good house but you tell me that I can have the best mechanics wrench out there and Ask me to drop your transmission well 1 or 2 things are gonna happen in the a Your engine is going to hit the ground and it's not gonna get backup or option 2 everything gets back to where it looks good but when you try to put it in drive all you hear is Is Is crunching and cracking and then you see some smoke and you hear some good or dripping got no idea from where all of a sudden now spurting everywhere snapping a drip is a whole rainfall But I can build you a house I can install the plumbing electrical can't do HVAC yet But everything else I'm good for you're paying for the man skills not so much his tools the tool he has only shows one of two things how much he can afford or what he likes shity tools and shine he don't know what he is doing shity and dirty he knows but cand buy new one or don't care to solid but clean and old he really knows what he is doing and he is proud of it I just don't like comparing people offer what they have if you don't know if you're gonna say something about the dude and recommend him it should be offered the job that he does I might be a little bit biased because when I 1st started in the trades I was legitimately homeless so I didn't have any fancy tools Shoot I didn't even have a tool bag Is let alone a toolbox But I had a lot of knowledge and I had a decent amount of experience because my mom and dad worked inworked in construction and I remember helping them one them when they own their own business but you can't put that on a job application that And a lot of people did judge me off of the tools that I had but once someone gave me a chance even with my shitty tools I've been circles around people What was funny is even the Mexicans just called started to call me D.V They said that it meant speed demon But it took me a while for anyone to even give me a chance because instead of being oh he could do this it was like oh he got Dollar General tools

What impresses me is when a professional is finished _ what he did works not how shiny his gear is . when you use a tool a lot the shine wears off

I would not care if a person used a plastic bag to carry tools in if they where friendly, clean, and skilled. Furthermore if someone sourced tools at a flea market good for them. Many quality things to be had there. Some not available anymore, and some of higher quality than is available today. Professionalism has little to do with the tool or transport method. Generally enjoy your videos but the snobbery in this one is a little much.

Professionals know to never carry a metal tool box into someones house.....They can scratch and mark...always use a thick tool bag or plastic tool box with rounded corners..!!!
@RealToolReviews
@RealToolReviews 9 лет назад
Makes you wonder how people functioned before plastic boxes or nylon bags....How about boxes with wheels? Can't they leave tracks across someone's carpet? There are many options, and it boils down to personal preference....a tackle box is unprofessional unless you are fishing.

I wouldn't recommend someone on the tools they use, but on how well they got the job done and cleaned up etc. If you got the job done with a tackle box as your tool box so what. As long as it got done that's what the customer should worry about. That's like going to a ford dealership for an interview and being very qualified for the job but driving a Chevy. Then they don't hire you because of what you drive. I think they could get into some big legal trouble because of it. It shouldn't matter what you drive or the tool box you use. You're the one getting the job interview not the vehicle you drive. Its a little bit of discrimination and judging someone on the merits of what they have instead of who they are. Everyone does start out somewhere. Its just my opinion though.

Love2boat92 I do not disagree that the toolbox has no bearing on the quality of work performed. However, there is more to it than that only.....appearance is just as important as anything else, and with an old tackle box ---- you cannot "look professional". Think about it like this.....you go to a nice restaurant, order a $30 steak, and the waitress carries it out on a beat up sheet of plywood instead of a serving tray ---- does that effect the quality of the steak? The experience of the cook? Or the taste of the meal? Nope.....but it still looks bad. I think that people are taking my comment as saying that "the guy didnt know what he was doing"......that is incorrect. What I was saying is "the guy looked unprofessional". And that is 100% true.
@Lanninglongarmmowing
@Lanninglongarmmowing 9 лет назад
Real Tool Reviews Yeah you are correct about looking professional but you should be paying a professional price for the job to get done. Don't expect someone who comes in with a really nice tool box to be paid very little. You get what you pay for sometimes. Personally I've been served steak on a really old and ugly looking serving dish that the waider came one with and it didn't bother me at all. I was happy to see my $30 steak. Lol. I soon forgot about what the serving dish looked like after my first bite of steak. Yeah it doesnt look the best but im here for a steak. I try to over look things in other people because thats what id want someone to do for me if i was in their situation. I try not to judge a book by its cover because the cover isn't always right.

I preferred the tool bags , the lighter the better and the edges don’t get you,plus they are not rough on the finish of some tools. After a while metal tool boxes can get very heavy and tiring.

I like the tool bag because it’s lighter, & less chance of damaging something, however have that a cantilever box would make it easer to be more organized, find things, & get the job done faster. If you can pick it up once it’s fully loaded. LOL!

An old man walks into a factory carrying a small tackle box, with all but 3 tools: A hammer, a screw driver, and an adjustable. Prior to this, a machine went down. The utility guys couldn't fix it, maintenance couldn't fix it, the machinist couldn't fix it. The had all brought in full toolboxes, wheeled in every box with every tool, worked all day to no avail. This man walked in with his tackle box, with three tools. Walked up to the machine and looked it over for a few minutes. He touched every piece, examined every part, and eventually opened his box. He takes out his three tools carefully, and goes to work. He tightens one bolt with the adjustable, loosens one screw with his screwdriver, and hits a seemingly random spot with the hammer, but as he does the machine comes back to life. When his bill came to the factory in the mail, its total was $1,000. The manager thought this was ridiculous and called him up right away, he had only worked on the machine for no more than 10 minutes. Once on the phone, the old man replied to the questioning very simply: "The bill reflects $50 for the service, but $950 for my knowledge." Many machinists and industrial workers pride themselves in not how many tools they have, but how few they need to do their job well. I for one would rather carry in a small box with the essentials, than a 100 pounds toolbox with every tool I'll never use. On the flip side, I do love cantilever boxes. I personally cannot stand boxes of drawers.

Sorry, thought you were talking about the present within the last 25 years...As a previous owner of a service business. That box you reviewed is great for outside or unfinished areas of service, but inside someones home it would be professionally inappropriate for service work where surfaces could be damaged...regardless, I enjoy your channel...
@RealToolReviews

Dave D I see your point....with the chances of metal damaging hardwood floors, walls, etc. In my case, the HVAC unit is in an unfinished part of the basement, and it is a non-issue....but I agree that this is not the most ideal in all circumstances. These are definitely more geared towards the automotive field, or those who prefer metal boxes.....the main point of my HVAC highlight was to talk about professional appearance, not say that metal boxes were the only choice. Thanks for watching & commenting!

So your HVAC guy was carrying a tackle box. How was the work he did though? One of the things that I love most about tools and instruments is that even though a well loved piece of equipment may look like a piece of crap it all all comes down to whether they still do a good job. I respect your opinion Sir, and as such I will merely file this particular way of thinking down to aesthetics. In my opinion though one should never judge a book (or a technicians ability) by it's cover. There is almost always a reason things are the way they are. Perhaps that tackle box was something left to them by a dearly departed loved one and the person wanted to keep the persons memory with them. If it's an old timer, maybe he's figured out something about comfort that we in our superficial youth have yet to learn. If it's a younger tech just starting out and trying to make a name for himself maybe he can't afford nice tools yet. One of the most asinine comments I've ever heard in my life is "If a guy showed up looking for a job at my shop, and he had Harbor Freight tools in his box, I'd tell him to go look somewhere else." At any rate, as always, thank you for uploading!
@RealToolReviews
@RealToolReviews 9 лет назад
Robert Johnson I am not doubting that his tackle box may be efficient & may work for him.....the point was a professional appearance. If someone shows up to paint my house wearing flip flops that grandma bought them 15 years ago & a formerly white t-shirt that they covered in BBQ sauce at the county fair because it brings back a good memory, sadly they are not going to get hired. The point that I was going for, was to highlight that if you present yourself in a professional manner with 1st impressions, people will take you more seriously.....it was not attack the guys abilities as far as work goes.....there are PLENTY of mechanics out there with big shiny $10k snap-on boxes that I would not let change my oil. ;)
@RobertJohnson-pb9vr
@RobertJohnson-pb9vr 9 лет назад
Real Tool Reviews Thank you for the reply, Sir. I understand where you are coming from. First impressions are usually of the utmost importance. It seemed to me though that in your video your implication was that regardless of the results of the tech you either would or would not recommend them based solely on appearance. That seems oddly superficial and vanity driven to me coming from a gentleman who's videos I admire. I personally believe that there is quite a bit of wiggle room between whether a man respects and takes care of his tools and his resulting care for your items and the concept that if a man has a disheveled appearance than it is proof that he will not take care of your things because he doesn't take care of himself. Sometimes our third eye (forsight) see's more than our other two ever could.
@RealToolReviews
@RealToolReviews 9 лет назад
Robert Johnson Like I said Robert.....I am not knocking the guy's abilities.....I am trying to point out to those who may not have thought it was important, that 1st impressions could make/break people recommending them to others or hiring them in the first place. If I was going into an interview & had spinach in my teeth, I would appreciate someone letting me know ahead of time ;)

Funny you do a review on a cantilever toolbox, I just found an old cantilever box in the back of my shop when I was cleaning it out. Looks about identical to this just the inside layout is different. I'm going to clean it up and use it for extra storage on a shelf. My problem is for what it is, that's it's just too heavy to be lugging around doing HVAC. I prefer my CLC 16" bag for service work. Going in and out of houses and up and down old stairways is too hard with a hard box.

***** I think this one is around 5lbs or so....I have some older metal boxes about the same size from the 1940's & they weigh AT LEAST 3xs as much.....I thought they were full of tools, but they were still empty!

I have to say steel cantilever boxes are a pet hate of mine. They are/were VERY common here in the UK. They're all the same. Heavy and you can never get as much in them as you think. I use a couple of Stanley plastic deep boxes with wheels for my mobile jobs now. more storage, wheeled, and as tough as these thin steel ones.
@RealToolReviews
@RealToolReviews 9 лет назад
Chris Ryan Well....that is one way to describe them...haha :) I will agree with you that if you load them down with tools....they will be extra heavy.....but, on the plus side --- its a free workout with no gym membership needed! :) Having casters definitely helps when moving around a lot of tools. Thanks for the laugh!

Wonder how fast it'll rust after being scratched like my older metal tool boxes. Possibly top heavy if bottom is light. Them swivel supports may scratch half round marks and bind as well....nice vid though :)
@RealToolReviews
@RealToolReviews 9 лет назад
***** I guess that would depend on where it is stored. I have metal boxes from WW2 & the only rust on them is surface rust from being stored in wet locations....no rust through. As far as top-heavy, I dont think that would be that big of a deal unless he filled the bottom with latex gloves & one-side of the top portion with mechanic tools.

What a coincidence. I was at Lowe's yesterday looking for a toolbox like this to use on junkyard trips. The bag works but it makes finding sockets and other tools a pain and it gets wet if it's raining. I bought the bag for $20 anyway just because it was cheap and the box I was looking at was a 3 drawer and it was already quite heavy empty. I was trying to imagine lugging it around the junkyard with a 3 lb mini sledge or dead blow along with ratchets, sockets, etc and it didn't sound fun. Maybe I'll try this box out. Looks light and well organized. Thanks for another great video

Real Tool Reviews what I meant was I personally plan on getting a set of 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2. Not necessarily all three in one package because I haven't seen them either. I know it's old. But honestly a tacklebox makes more sense. You said it yourself. The Cantilever box will bend if mishandled. I'm sure he doesn't work out of the tacklebox, alone. But as far as a means to transport frequently used basic tools. It's a prefect low cost solution. It's ingenious.
