My favourite modern metal guitarist...love his riffs

He should just play horde in devolution or the shifting equilibrium...no one can play those songs except him anyway. This guy has to be the most UNDERRATED guitarist ever. Everyone should bow to Joe, this mans contributions to music are unparalleled. Ob(Servant) has to be my favorite album of all time. Psycroptic rules.

that's what i like about Joe Haley, he's not just one of those guys who shows you just the lick and that's it, he gives you more insight on his techniques and playing style which i like.

i didnt expect this but i loved it. refreshing to see a less distorted and more bluesy playing.

Nice jazzy fusion lick! He reminds me of Brett Garsed here, he uses the same picking technique.

Ive been a huge Psycroptic fan for ages,I always wonder how a man this talented,a super nicemqueit guy,can play music so technical and aggresive. I'd love if he brought out a jazz side project or something,he seems suited to the style. I love the sound of this lick =]

@Sonofthemorning97 it's a jazzy-legato lick instead of a metal/shred lick. I believe that too much gain could decrease the smoothness and clarity

Well, I think he has his tone set up like that in the video so he can demonstrate what exactly the riff sounds like, I mean, people obviously don't use distortion just to mask the flaws in their picking technique, they use it to alter the sound of the guitar.

@HarryTheRockerManiac His tone is always pretty different. Uses a pretty minimal amount of gain with a real tight noise gate, it might be cutting him off a bit here when hes playing lightly like that

This Betcha Can't Play This, unlike most, doesn't suck and I'd actually want to be encouraged to try and learn to play it, although it isn't the most difficult lick.
