Beth didn't come from church. Her father was in jail by the time she was five, she suffers from severe bipolar disorder, and medicated herself for years with drugs and alcohol. Her sister died from AIDS when Beth was 22, and just starting to make it. She still battles her mental illness and has said she's "sick of psych wards". She's a warrior, a survivor, and a one of kind talent, and Joe is the perfect musical partner for her, IMO. Loved your reaction, I am with you all the way on the amazement, goosebumps, and chills!

I think Beth hits different because she’s not just parroting the lyrics. She feels what she’s singing and it comes across. There’s so much passion and emotion. This woman has *survived* and it shows.

She didn't grow up in a church. She came from a family of women who were so beautiful men lined up to take care of them. Her mother was given a Mercedes on a first date. Beth Anne was not beautiful, but she could sing. No one looked after her. At fourteen she moved in with a boyfriend. Beth Anne was also very kind. She was a piano prodigy and recorded a back-up for my little girl's talent contest.

I love this performance. It is peerless. You mentioned how sweaty Beth is in this song. If you check out the DVD for this concert you'll see that this was song #20. Think about that. After 19 songs, she could still sing at this level, and this wasn't the last song, either. Beth is a phenomenon. (Just like Joe!)

Agreed. "Am I the One" live at the Paradiso is a must see. An incredible performance. I believe it took place after one of several stints in rehab and/or psych wards for serious drug addiction and mental illness, so Polo, you'll notice she looks a little different. Almost lost her; it's SO great to see how healthy she is now. PLEASE, trust everyone asking you to react to "Am I the One" live at the Paradiso - you'll never forget it.

Joe's band has the great Reese Wynans on keys. You saw him in some of your SRV videos. This song was done by the one and only Etta James and Beth is the only one IMO who can do it justice! Great reaction ❤

This song IS from another era...it was performed by the late Great Etta James...and Beth kills 8t just as she does ANY song she sings...she has been through HELL AND BACK to be where she is today...and that is a throne...for she is the UNDISPUTED QUEEN of the blues!!! No question!!!

She also did a different, still great interpretation of this with Jeff Beck at Kennedy Center Honors for Buddy Guy. Check her out singing "Am I the One" at the Paradiso and Joe Bonamassa in studio covering Deep Purple's "Lazy" with Jimmy Barnes on vocals. Red hot.

I loved Beth Anne. She was a gangly, brawny, wild girl without a bit of self consciousness. She would enter talent contests and an adult had to accompany her because she was too young to be there by herself. She never wanted to be a star. She just wanted to sing. She wanted to be appreciated. I try to follow her on RU-vid. Glad you like her, Polo.

Beth started singing in Hollywood clubs at 15 and has won 10 awards for singing the Blues. Joe started his career at the age of 14 when he opened for BB King both are very talented and this performance gives me chills EVERY TIME I hear it. Joe also sings you should look him up as well. This song is a cover the original was Etta James whom was so moving in her vocals but this was made for Beth to sing for sure.

Check her out performing Leave the Light On or Caught Out In The Rain both live at Royal Albert Hall. Those were with her own band, not Joe, but both absolutely stunning. Joe is pretty epic solo also. Lots to dig into with both of these artists.

When Beth wanted to start up playing concerts again, Joe I’ve read stepped up to the plate for her and did a few collaboration albums to help light the so much deserved fire in old and new fans, and his only stipulation was that she was clean, and he’d do all he could to bring back the shine in what we all know she dishes up when she takes the stage. I’m so glad knew of her greatness and wanted to help all he could, together they put a firestorm of magnificent gems back to life and before both his fans and hers. He respects her abilities without doubt and it was a great adventure they took together. They are both fabulous entertainers.

She is the real deal. I can't describe it better. There are two other beautiful live versions of her for " I'd rather go blind" that I know. One is the version with Jeff Beck in 2012 ath the Kennedy Center Honoring Buddy Guy with Obama as a guest. But personally I find her best version the one at RocKwiz with her steady guitarist Jon Nichols. All three have a slidly different character, colour and tempo, all are worth listening to and everybody will have there own favorite I suppose.

I listened to this piece " Rather go blind" sung by Etta James, Tina Turner ,Beyoncè and others. Some were great Interpretations In live others in studio , in movies with choruses, with vocalists, with "tears" flowing from eyes with long eyelashes, all certainly with participation according to their soul, but I can say that, at least for me, Beth really put a soul, through voice and gestures, which encompasses love, fear, jealousy, resentment, anger and, at the end you feel the sweetness and pain together asking not to be abandoned and, preferring to say that it would be better to go blind not to see the betrayal

Every time Joe plays a solo he might as well have that guitar bronzed and put in a museum. If that is the only sound that ever comes out of that guitar again then it has done its job. That instrument has been thoroughly worked over. Just put it out to pasture.

Michael Rhodes, the bass player, passed away this past March. HE was 69. He will be missed. Joe can also sing. He has a collection of 400 guitars and amps. He owns a record company for helping blues bands and singers.
