I'm a nurse and I knew I could never work with children because my heart could not take seeing children sick or abused. It takes a special kind of nurse to work with children. This young lady is truly an angel! What a sad, amazing song!

I so feel you. I used to want to work with kids and then while doing volunteer work at 16 with underprivileged kids I met two little boys who were in foster care. They were always dirty and always in trouble and I wasn’t allowed to even hug them. I’d give them special challenges that were at their level so they could win prizes bc they could never win the events that were held. I adored them and they loved me too. I felt like I was really helping them, but I realized that the system they were in was failing them. And then one day the littlest one who was only 6 said something to me that revealed the kind of abuse he’d suffered and my heart broke. I felt so powerless and ill equipped. I have a huge heart and tons of empathy but I’m not very strong. I wish I had the kind of strength that nurses and social workers have, but I don’t. I can’t handle even hearing stories of children hurt or sick, let alone deal with it day in and out. I feel guilty about that but if I worked in that field I’d probably end up having a breakdown or worse. All props to those with the empathy and strength to those jobs.

I knew as well when doing my internship I could never work with children. I am community health worker (Health Dept. and I work with infectious disease, AIDS, HEP, under the Ryan White Program). One little boy, a year old, vented, outcome was dire due to abuse and nobody was there for him except volunteers that come around and sit with them, sing and read to them. Next to him was a 1 month that had head trauma due to car accident, his parents right by his side, their 1st child. I left that day and cried for the rest of the day. I praise the people with that strength yet I know everyday they leave work they leave their heart behind and have to learn to balance on a line so thin & easily breakable....like a spider web so they don't lose themselves. She is an absolute gem💎💎💎

My oldest niece is a nurse and has been for over 40 years. While in training she had to work in different wards and one was pediatric oncology. She couldn't take how one day a little kid would be there and the next day he/she would have passes away. She said she would give up nursing before working in pediatric oncology. The people who work on these wards have to be very special. By the way she has a BSN.

My son died in a hospital as a baby 14 years ago. This song just ripped by heart open as if he had died yesterday. I cried like I haven't cried in 10 years. Even though it hurts, the pain is evidence that he changed me forever. The main thing that got me through that horrible period was telling myself that his little life was meaningful though it was short. I try to make him proud everyday. Thank you for this.

As a medical professional who works with children everyday, I know exactly how she feels and it can be heartbreaking to see children and their families go through what they do. This really touches me. As a young nurse I became very fond of a little one , she had surgery and it all went wrong and we lost her. Her name was Lisa. 40 years on I still remember that little one. God bless this lovely nurse.

OMG!!! As an RN, even working in adult critical care my 40+ career, I can relate. I’ve learned so much from ALL my patients and students over the years. Even in the darkest times, even when I worked hospice, these patients TEACH you how to live even while they’re dying. Death is an enemy to him, and he does not desire any to die. He will bring them back to life shortly. Please look up this clip. I let my salty tears drop and I was.... Beth Porch, You are bautiful, you are mesmerising, You are special, you are needed for all those kids. I suppose it is tough but your strength is our strength. While I’m thinking woh is me that I can’t even see him or hold him because of what’s going on in the world, that performance puts life in perspective. I really hope that Beth's singing career takes off, and yet, I wonder whether success in the musical world would fill her heart as much as her nursing vocation. I myself have held the hands of those who have been very ill, even as some have left this life behind. While it always breaks my heart, I consider it a privilege to be present in those moments. I listened to this without the intro and refused to watch faces or reactions, just put my head back/rested and listened. Her first couple words were just so smooth, I thought "WOW"!! There needs to be a build up in the middle or the end is all, but she deserves a record now and this blasted in our streets, malls, airports to remind us.

As a ER and ICU RN, she speaks volumes through her song. It doesn’t matter the age of the person who passes away. The family is torn apart and their hearts are always broken. I’ve worked in ERs and ICUs so I’ve been with children and adults when they have passed. I’ve seen families scream and even pick up furniture and throw it at walls. Very rarely do families act as if they don’t care.
