🔴 Bethlen Castle in Cris (in Hungarian Bethlen-kastély) was built between the XIV-XVIII century, in the style of the Transylvanian Renaissance, as a small fortified noble residence. It is considered the most beautiful Renaissance castle in Transylvania.
It has a fortified enclosure in a square plan, with circular bastions at the corners and a square entrance tower, a structure typical of late medieval military architecture, anterior to the castle on the south side.
The residence has two levels, an imposing circular tower (Archers Tower) and an open gallery, with arches, on 15 massive stone columns and an honor staircase. After the construction of the castle, the fortification system was completed with a semi-enclosure with feather bastions.
The castle has always been owned by the Bethlen family, who lived in the castle in the 20th century. Between the two world wars, the residence was abandoned.
The castle has been returned to the Bethlen family and is being renovated. It has been used by the Dévai Szent Ferenc Foundation for 50 years, provided the castle is renovated.
