BETTE DAVIS SINGS I've Written A Letter To Daddy - Whatever Happened To Baby Jane

The scariest and funniest movie musical number ever, Bette Davis shrieks through this one all the way to another Oscar nod in Robert Aldrich's classic "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" co-starring Joan Crawford (of course!) and Victor Buono (Oscar-nominated, too) on the accompaniment.
This video has nothing to do with Larry Wessel, the man that made a horrible movie about Boyd Rice called Iconoclast.

@@AnthonyWilliams-li5mz Look I am a huge fan of Bette as well but as great as Bette was in Baby Jane, that year nobody else deserved an Oscar for best actress more than Ann Bancroft. She was giving one of the greatest performances ever on the silver screen (alongside the equally great Patty Duke of course) in The Miracle Worker. They both deservedly won an Oscar on their nominated category that year.

This is the saddest moment of the film. I feel compassion for Jane. She is a grown up woman acting as a little girl. We realised that Jane is completely insane in a horrible way. And the music helps a lot. The tune is supposed to be charming and sweet, and performing by Bette Davis becomes grotesque and poignant.

Bette Davis did her own makeup for 'Baby Jane.' The super stars of her era learned from the best studio makeup guys, so she was able to elaborate just how scary she would come across on the screen. @babyjenks1784

The kind of funny thing about this is that in the "past" Jane had to dance with her arm up to reach her daddy because he was so much taller than her. She was also singing a sort of sappy song about a girl writing a letter to her Daddy in heaven. Well now Jane is an "old woman" and she is singing a song about Daddy being in heaven (which her Daddy is obviously passed away at this point in the movie) and it is like she is reaching her hand up towards heaven dancing with her Daddy (if that makes sense)

It was summer break and I stayed up late and watched it with my Dad on Saturday late night movies which used to air on antenna channel 54 out of Vancouver, BC. I’m dating myself I know😂it was the late 80’s. And I instantly loved it. And from that night to every night I’ve ever watched it, with much flourish, Jane’s odd pronunciation and an exaggerated twirl, I end up singing that “written a letter to daddy” song for like a week...getting on the nerves of everyone around me but I can’t even help it 🤣

Such a great movie! Everything a story should be. Hilarious, sad, scary, and unpredictable.

Betty is at her greatest here and John Crawford and Victor blow nose reactions are priceless I think Betty is the greatest actress of all time because she would play old or ugly or crazy or anything as long as it was a juicy role and after seeing her play it you could never forget her because she was the ultimate film actors you can't do it

When people say moments in shows like Real Housewives and Love Island are ‘iconic’, my heart bleeds for films like this.

You got that right. There's iconic and then there is b e t t e playing baby Jane Hudson and singing this song. There's no comparison.

Bette Davis should have won the Oscar for 1962...but that was a tough year for Best Actress! However, I'll wager that more people remember "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" than remember "The Miracle Worker"! Both are wonderful movies! Thanks for the upload!!
